This started three days ago and my reply from an online ticket was basically if it matters post it here which stinks enough that if it isn't fixed before my billing date and I get some credit for wasted time I won't be doing another month.
When I am in my ship, with one character which I spent considerable time developing, if I click my ship goes to full speed and if I click again it goes to full stop.
All I want is for STO to generate a new character with the same specs... nothing extra... Does anyone else have buggy characters?
I'm a little unclear on just what the bug is. When you click what? The throttle? With the little info given, it sounds like 'working as intended' instead of buggy. Please explain.
If you click what, where, does it happen all the time or only occasionally. If you want help gives us full details.
And a little bit of advice if you try and blackmail a company over a lousy 15 bucks a month they won't stop laughing for a year.
maybe try using Q and E to set your speed, Q decreases speed and when you are at a stop puts you in reverse, E makes you go forwards faster and when in reverse it stops you, if you are clicking on the arrows above the throttle bar then you go into full impulse and cannot really fight like that, however as i mentioned use Q and E to control your speed or click in the throttle bar and use shift+r to enter and exit full impulse.
if all else fails then you should reset your keybinds to default and test the buttons, after they work properly again remap them so that you are comfortable with the layout, btw keybinds do not transfer between all your characters incase you were going to ask.
Do you mean the arrows at the top and bottom of the speed bar? That's "Full Impulse" and "All Stop". Have you tried clicking on the bar itself or used the Q and E keys to control your speed?
It is when I click any mouse button anywhere except for on an active button like power up shields... IT is really strange. It happens all the time with default key bindings, I changed the key binding to see if it would help and no dice. Changed back, still no dice. So, for instance, If I take my fingers off of a mouse button and then go to steer the ship stops. I have to click again to make the ship start and then it is full speed or nothing.
IT makes it impossible to fight in any space battle. Using the key pad isn't really an option as I have limited dexterity in my left hand due to a permanent injury and it is taxed using all of the keys I have to use already. I rely on the slider as much as I can.
It happens on both of my computers and only for this one character...all of the time.

Thanks for the ideas, guys.
Under options is the option to change the command that stops your movement and targeting when you click empty space. SOrry but I can't remember what it is called. Possibly changing it though will solve your problem.
If it works OK for other characters but there is something wrong on just one it would suggest that somehow the save file for that character has become corrupted. If so I seriously doubt that cryptic could do anything about it.
Try logging in options set everything to default log out and hopefully that may overwrite the file. Log in and set them up again the way you want.
Re hand problem have the same. Use two fingers of the right hand for direction keys. Everything else speed, weaons, BO's are controlled by mouse clciks. It is not feasible to use directional controls by holding down both mouse buttons in space. Only use that in ground combat.

Have fun and I really want to say that it was nice to get some advice.
