So, I think that this game is supposed to be as "cannon" as possible, either the latest Star Trek movie isnt or the game isnt, cause Vulcan got imploded into a black hole in the movie and I just flew by it in route to SB1. Anyone know which it is to clear up some confusion? Maybe the next "new" Star Trek will be going back in time to save Vulcan and it will have a legit existance here? Just been wondering since I saw the planet still there..
Romulas was destroyed. Romulas and Remus both destroyed. Not Vulcan.
Different planet, totally different sector of space.
And in the movie Vulcan was destroyed but that was a different " reality ". A tangent universe. So while they did go back in time they also went to a different tangent universe.
They say so in the movie. But I can understand the confusion.
Vulcan was destroyed in an alternate timeline created by Nero travelling back in time. STO is set in the 'Prime' timeline, which is to say, the one Nero left.
The last movie was in an alternate timeline. There Romulus still exists and Vulcan is gone. We're in the prime timeline where all the other shows and movies were set and it's the other way around. Romulus is gone and Vulcan still exists.

Vulcan is destroyed in the "Abrams" Verse. It's an alternate timeline. That has a different Kirk, a different Spock (and our Spock), a different Pike and a different history.
In our timeline, which this game takes place in, Vulcan is fine.

Gotcha, so because we are in a different timeline, anything that happens in the new movies and series if they put it out, could not exist in our STO reality because it is from a different timeline..Pretty much like the mirror universe..a 3rd one then.
Spock was too busy watching Vulcan Idol so Romulus and Remus got caught up by the star that went supernova. Why the Romulans just didn't ferry everyone out with their massive Warbirds (Deridexes were supposed to nearly double a galaxy class's size if I'm right) I don't know.
So Spock made Nero ****ed off, they had an argument, and Chuck Norris sent them to an an alternate version that was JJ Abram's movie.

More or less.
As for entering it... as I recall, the Devs did talk about that in an interview way, way, back; but later claimed that their licence doesn't cover the Abrams verse. This was all a while ago, so I could be wrong; but that's how I remember it anyway.
But I hate Nero. He's an absolute idiot. He goes back in time. Wants to save his people. Spends like what? 20 years sitting out in space or something? And in all that time does he ONCE contact Romulas? Does he warn them?
Maybe he could have given them advanced technology in order to give them an edge. With Romulas he could have taken over the galaxy. All that stuff.
But no. He doesnt do jack. Sits around and waits for Spock to get there so he can destroy Vulcan in front of him and THEN decides to wage a senseless war on the Federation.

in fairness, and this might just be splitting hairs but we dont know that he didn't warn them.
one thing i would say is why did he spend all that time drilling holes into the planets core. a black hole would have been just as affective in its lower atmosphere

From what I remember actually he doesn't do this for one reason.
He thinks Romulus is destroyed. Remember anytime someone says it's just fine, and if he just contacted them he'd know the truth? I don't think Nero is too aware he's gone back in time or something, because he still thinks his homeworld was destroyed.
Had he gone there though, it would've been odd. Mainly because he would've met himself and his wife.

no he does know the stardate from the captain of the kelvin and he knows its now young spock on the enterprise
i do recall him saying he would now save romulus and make them powerful by destroying the federation .
Without even reading back through the pages of responses, have we established the difference between the 'prime' timeline and the alternate timeline which follows the new movie?
I do not wish to appear condescending, but how many times has this come up now?

the conversation has moved on from what is the difference between the two

No, he knows. Hes watches his entire world be obliterated. Several billion souls. His wife. All gone in a blink of an eye. And, in his mind, because of one man Spock.
The drive for vengeance is a powerful tool for motivation. Honed with enough hatred and dispassion, it becomes an amazing weapon. He acknowledge that he was not only attempting to save Romulus from its fate (admitting he was very well aware of the time shift) but he wanted to secure a safer universe for the empire by destroying their most common enemies. Specifically, any Federation-aligned civilizations. How many had he already destroyed in the 20 or so years he waited for Spock, saving Vulcan and Earth for last? Or, how many more would he have destroyed if he were allowed to live.
Nero was driven mad, caught in the nexus between a future he had witnessed die and now stuck in the past where he can commit the ultimate act of revenge.
Lastly, at his age, given the rate Vulcans and Romulans age, although he might have met himself, he would have been too young to have taken a wife. Unless they are pre-arranged at seven years old, as with Vulcan mates.

WRONG.
We are not in a different time line, we have always been in the same one which is called the Prime Universe.
Anything from the Original Series up to Voyager and Enterprise all takes place in the Prime or Roddenberry Universe.
Star Trek (2009) movie takes place in an entirely different alternate reality, much like the Mirror Universe.
Star Trek Online takes place in the Prime Universe 30 years after Nemesis where Romulus was destroyed by the Holbus nova but Vulcan still exists.

My favorite line from that movie ...
"Hello Christopher. I'm Nero."
He's so nonchalant about it, lol.
They don't realize that the DeLorean went back to an alternate 1985 where Biff rules the town.
Different movie but same principle.
So Spock made Nero ****ed off, they had an argument, and Chuck Norris sent them to an an alternate version that was JJ Abram's movie.
I thought it was strangely sinister first time I saw that; but I admit, it gets a chuckle out of me when I look back on it
And a look of pure exhasperation moves across my face......
In the Abrams dimension, is Harold... batting for the original timeline's Sulu's team?
More or less.

Lol - ok then...
