Ok, I don't know how many of you have seen the TV spots for this game. I just stumbled upon them here:
http://media.pc.ign.com/media/142/14270158/vids_1.html
The "30 second TV spot" a bit down the page has a wonderfully exciting scene of a player on the bridge as an incredible battle rages on the viewscreen. It implies amazing bridge battles.
This spot angers me in so many ways that I won't even voice them. I just do not understand why the game is presented this way when it not only is not like that, but may never be.
I honestly don't get this.

Dropping mines is good , dropping them through the bridge officer orders is better, surely you can understand that.
My brain = 'asploded.
I am now diverting my energies away from the "why did Cryptic steal from me by giving away my TOS uniforms" campaign to support this one fully thanks to your logical money shot.
As an America, I'd say no. I'm sort of used to it at this point.

CGI Trailers allways tend to do this kind of thing.
They even had orbital bombardement shown in that Trailer....
Mixing CGI with ingame.... not so usual.
And WTF? Was that Admiral Quinn?
And OMFG the lady from the Loadingscreen is walking there! exact same scene ...ok who of the Dev's want to annoy us with his ugly char?
Truth. This bill will save the country, this pill will make your **** huge, this book will save your marriage, this workout will give you abs, really you should have a professional BS detector by now. Cryptic can run all the adds they want and I'll just play what I get.
No. It's about what I expect from video game TV ads. They're pretty much all pre-rendered cutscenes without any actual gameplay.
And it's nothing new. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9pF9BJQBLo
No offense meant here OP, It's just that this issue (bridge combat) has been brought up so many times since beta and on, and on. Most of us that want it have went through several stages of denial , at this point I believe some of us have moved into the acceptance stage , Hence the attempt at humor.
We can however look forward to functional interiors somewhere in the future, when is anyones guess, but as far as bridge combat, thats still fairly unlikely for at least the near future.
All that said I agree that bridge functions ,and combat should have been in at launch, especially since it has been seemingly billed that way by videos like the one you refer too here.
As far as Mr.99 , I knew he had a penchant for mines so I was attempting to show him the light through a medium I knew he would clearly and whole heartedly understand.
We do. We just don't see the bridge when we do it. It's a cutscene. There's nothing to suggest everything in that trailer is gameplay footage.
Does WoW look like either of these? It's had five years to get there. ;-)

Does City of Heroes look like this?

Does Guild Wars look like this?

Star Wars Galaxies is the only MMO I can find that uses pure in-game footage in its trailers, without cinematic rendering, dramatization or doing things you won't literally see in game.
Why would you assume it was demonstrating gameplay? It seemed to me to be pretty clearly a dramatization. Everything in that trailer is something you could see in game, just not the way its presented there.
Look at the CoH trailer. Can you lift children on your arms in that game? (Actually, why am I getting deja vu here. Didn't some people in CoH demand that as a feature based on that trailer...?)
Very few games use un-retouched footage in marketing. That trailer is a marketing cinematic, not gameplay.
Why not just just have all the camera crew extras and whatnot, that were USUALLY behind the scenes, with their hanging boom mikes and all TV-dom such, be in there as well?
Does anyone need to just let this one go, for the sake of the fact, that IT'S JUST A GAME!?
Yes I paid money. Subscribed to September in fact, and WILL expect to be around to see how this game evolves over the years. As such, I'm not in the qualms category of worrying about what's not in the game, based off of buy me trailers and such, and instead ENJOY what is before me, bar none, PERIOD. I got about fifty other games with their boxes sitting near me, that probably also had snazzy trailers that had stuff left out of the final release product, and that ding dong don't bother me either. I 'should' tell ye to go play another game, if this stuff bothers you so much, but that's not my place of such to do. Instead I'll leave this post, and enjoy the game I fully enjoy, for what it flat out is.
If I had a complaint to levy instead (aside from the tardy Season 1 bit,) is the fact of where is the snazy Admiral's uniform options, from the commercial I saw during release, (day, week, not sure which,) on Sci-Fi, when they did that Star Trek marathon thing. That's where my tribble squealing style complaining goes, where's the cool admiral uniforms at.
Now I need an Ale in Ten Forward. (And like anything is ever perfect anyway. Simple and done.)
Wait... When was that exactly? A hundred years ago when people sold herbal cure-alls out of wagons? In the 50s when big tobacco claimed health benefits associated with their product?
At least with this, it's selling what can play out in your head when you're playing the game and the graphics are reasonably close to gameplay.
There actually was a time in America when people cared enough to demand the truth from corporations.
As sad as this comment is, it also happens to be true.
I'm also thinking that the fine print at the bottom mentions something akin to "may not represent actual gameplay" in the video.
Every MMO I've ever played has some kind of nifty sales video like this that doesn't represent gameplay 100%. So what?
Dude that was so obviously a cinematic. From the way the camera dramatically swings around to the captain standing up and saying, "Raise shields! Fire phasers!"
In a frikkin Star Trek game! They know EVERYONE expects it, they show it knowing full well they not only don't have it, but don't even plan to.
I mean, I'm getting the impression some of you will support anything they do, no matter what.
Hasbro owes me for those Transformers that don't transform or move on their own.
Uhh this is not new.. and not specific to STO .. every video game does it (and to the point where now they make sure that there is tag (actual video game footage) is on the screen so they can really brag)...
Here is Penny Arcade making fun of this.. in 2005

Ladies and gentlemen.. I give you the Bull Shot.
as a canadian, i agree with the no. it doesn't bother me because i understand that everything isn't done right away and i understand even more that complaining about it just makes it take longer.
if they advertise something they'll come thru with it... maybe not right away, but within a reasonable time. screaming my head off about it will just make them more cranky and slower to do stuff.
if they take too long for me, then i just take the innicative and fix the situation myself...
