List of 'What Can't I Do' with a 10-day Guest Pass?

Greetings,

A friend of mine provided me with one of his 10-day Guest Passes provided in his STO game package, and I love the game so far.

However, there appear to be certain actions/options that I am unable to do while using the Guest Pass, but there is no explicit message stating that I am unable to perform said action/option.

A search of Google didn't render a list of "Things you Can't Do in STO with a Guest Pass", so I decided to pose the question to the STO Forum.

Here is a list of actions/option that I -appear- to not be able to do, while using the Guest Pass:

1). I am unable to customize my ship.
The customization screen appears, and I am able to select options to change the appearance of my ship, and when I click 'Save', I get a message that the settings/customizations have been saved. However, when I exit the customization menu, and beam back to my ship, it is still in the default configuration of "Chiraz" style.
So, I assume that Ship Customization is not allowed for Guest Passes.

2). Unable to customize bridge officers.
I can get into the customization screen and select one of my bridge officers, only change the uniform styles to match closely to my own character's uniform style, and then click the 'Save' button.
I get a message to screen stating something like "Costume saved", but when I exit the customization menu and get back in, all the uniform defaults are back again.
So, I assume that Bridge Officer Customization is not allowed for Guest Passes.

3). Unable to see anything in the exchange/auction system.
Considering how many days/months STO has been online, I don't think the exchange/auction system would be completely -empty- and not utilized at all, but nothing is displayed, even with the 'All' filter selected.
So, I assume that using the Exchange/Auction system is not allowed for Guest Passes.

Unfortunately, the game doesn't make it clear that these are not allowed actions/options, and I at first assumed that I was doing something wrong, and spent fruitless time going around and around through the menus trying to customize, but to no avail...

So, anything else I can't do as a Guess Pass character in STO?
A comprehensive list would be greatly appreciated. >:)

Are you clicking 'save' or 'purchase'? Saving makes a template you can load later.

Yes, appears to have no effect. After setting up and saving, I go back into the Customization screen, and click 'Load', but no items are listed to load, so it appears that nothing was saved.

What happens if you don't hit 'Save' but just 'Purchase' after customizing? Keeping in mind I've got no idea how the 10 day trial codes work. It just seems a little odd they wouldn't let you do that, since its a large part of the game in my opinion.

Ah cool, thanks for letting my know. Makes a little sense when I think about it. At least you can see the potential for customization.

Cool, but anything else in STO that I can't do with a Guest Pass?

I was hoping for a comprehensive list of all the things/actions/options that a Guest Pass cannot do in STO...
So I don't waste time trying them, and continue enjoying the things I -can- do...

For both the costumes and ship customization you need to go to purchase, do not bother with saving them. I am not sure why they did not save that may be because its a 10 day pass. As for the exchange issue go into the search bar and just hit enter without typing anything in.

    Thank you, General! :D

Next time I login to STO, I will try the above, and report back to this forum thread on my results.

Reporting back after logging back in...

Conclusion: I am dumb as a post... :(

I never noticed the 'Purchase' button, as mentioned in the above posts...

Turns out that even with a 10-day Guest Pass, you -CAN- customize your ship and BO's uniforms, as long as you use the 'Purchase' button to finalize the changes.
And using the 'Search' button in the Exchange/Auction system displays what is in the system, as long as you select a category...

Thank you to all that posted replies; they were exceptionally helpful! :D

the "Save" functions are for when you want to load your current uniform/ship style to another character or want to revert back to before you made changes. the "Save" feature saves your CURRENT uniform/ship config, not what is currently shown on screen.

Actually, the OP specified that he used a buddy code that his friend received in his STO box. That means it's a code that came with the Collector's Edition.

If you look at Cryptic's other current game, Champions Online... what Champs does is this - if it's a code generated by J. Random User through their account, then YES the trial account has heavy restrictions. But trial codes that came with Champions lifetime subs and stuff don't have any restrictions at all - they give complete game access, no level cap, nothing.

This is also the case for their first title, City of Heroes. Trial accounts in CoH now have extremely severe limits, but if you use a really old trial code from certain promotions...those still aren't restricted.

Currently there are two sources of trial code for STO. There's the ones that come in the Collector's Edition, and there's the kind each of us can generate from our accounts. I don't know if the generated codes have restrictions...actually I don't think they do, at least not now.

But even if restrictions are implemented in the future, I'd expect the Collector's Edition codes to always be restriction-free.

A question for this thread. Once the 10 day trial expires from the buddy key, is the character/s deleted from the system. Does the buddy need to purchase a retail key, or can they just start a subscription?

Thanks to any who can answer in advance.

    You are not dumb.
    It's bad interface design.
    :(

Just like so many other UI design decisions in STO.
(like popupinyourface notifications and buttons/windows losing focus)

EDIT: But good work on posting this list.
