Hi all,
this following idea is for Cryptic/other players to review. If it has been posted before, my apologies, I searched for a similaor thread but could not find it, so here we go.
My idea is to give a class specific weapon to Fed Cruiisers and Klingon cruisers/carriers.The concept is a railgun or Phalanx type of weapon purely for defensive purposes.
The purpose? Destroying incoming torpedos and close quartar combat defensive purposes.
Specs;
- behaves like a turret on rapid fire III, only the dps is much lower at long distance.
- targeting arc; 360 degrees, same as turret
- autofire on all torpedo's in range
Range;
- against torps, a max 10km range
- against ships, a 3km range.
Making it also an anti-ship weapon will give the cruiser/carrier more protection since they are sluggish to navigate. You can make it that they can only be outfitted on Aft weapon slots, so people can not outload them like turrets on the entire ship.
Real life application?
Yes, every slow battle cruiser or aircraft carrier has a weapon like this(Phalanx system I believe) for defensive purposes. It is not a stretch to believe in space, a similar defensive weapon would be employed.
Also, a lot of other science fiction shows and movies have similar weapons, think of Babylon 5, "Space; above and beyond" and others.
Would cruisers get overpowered? Well, answer this question; what would happen if your enemy would fire "scarmble sensors" while three cruisers would fly in formation withtin 3km of eachother?
So yep, a potent defensive weapon, which can also be easily turned around on the owner with the right BO specs.
Ur opinions please ^^
