I'm not sure if you guys have looked at the
Poll Results but if you will then you'll notice the high percentage of people who voted in favor of being able to control their ship actively from their bridge.
This to me is very intriguing because if you remember a little game called
Bridge Commander when your Captain was giving orders on the bridge, he'd actually
look at the bridge officer who was in charge of the aspect he was looking to modify.
For example, when the Captain looked at the Chief Engineer, Brex, Brex would ask you what he could do for you and then an allocation window would open that allowed you to move resources around to fit the situation you were currently in.
Same goes for the Helm, Tactical, Science, etc and the seat on the other side of the Captain and First Officer was reserved for Special Guests.
Bridge Commander was and imho still is an Awesome Game!
Please, Cryptic, take a look at Bridge Commander. They did it right. Try doing it like this...I think others currently playing STO will like it too.
P.S. This is my first post, ever, for something like this. I think STO is super cool, is going to get even better, and that Cryptic is doing a superb job at making the game and listening to the players.

I don't understand what you mean by this. There's no one in the MMO besides yourself controlling your ship. Your bridge officers are NPC's, not real life players.
I know I mean while a single player game is easy to program since there is limited options on what you can do and it is not online with 100k other players you have to balance against. Nevermind the myriad of different combinations of bridge officers and players you would have to model. Working with a MMO is a lot harder then working with a single player game.
I didn't play bridge commander. Was it an arcade style game, that is fun for a few days then you get bored of it? If not Cryptic wont like it, so dont get your hopes up.
While I'm all for ship interiors, shipisodes and real things to do on the bridge, I'm still not convinced space combat would work from the bridge. If they implement it ala Bridge Commander, it would be a totally different gameplay experience and frankly it's a little scary.
No it was more a bridge simulator, not arcade style at all. A very good game if you ask me, in which you didn't face 52012478210 Klingons battleships in a noobiranda and still kick their a*****.
I know alot of players have asked about this, but given the complexity of a dialouge string between player character and NPC's under your control it sounds as if it would only complicate combat in a MMO setting.
In a nutshell, yes it is an arcadey sort of game.
It is also one of the most played Star Trek games, countless mods have been made

And one modding team has taken it to the next level by making the unofficial successor, Star Trek Excalibur.
