BO Training Skill Substitutions: A Plea

A lot has been said about the skill training "tree," much of it criticism. Although poorly explained, once you do figure it out there is a certain amount of logic to it. An issue I haven't seen talked about but that is driving me to madness is BO power training and switching.

Like many players, my tactics center on a small group of the same skills. In my case, target shields, beam overload, high yield, etc. So, when I'm promoted, I'd like to continue that strain by getting High Yield II instead of High Yield I. But to do that, I have to give up another and unrelated power which I also want to continue using. It's very frustrating to have to scramble my entire power sets every time I'm promoted, something I used to look forward to but now dread. I understand the reasons why the switch can't be made, but look at this from a logic standpoint: why should you be able to go straight to HYIII without having its predecessors? Stations, no more than computers on a bridge, don't have "rank" : people have rank. It just doesn't make sense.

In odd contrast, I can do a leg sweep by simply slapping on a belt, but can't push a button to fire a torpedo without an overcomplicated training system. It doesn't work and I think the rank-based station system needs to be seriously reviewed. It's a pain and doesn't really make sense anyway. This is supposed to be fun!

Developers: Please consider at least widening substitution options available when we level, to include the "II" version of powers of which we had "I" before. It makes sense and doesn't make us change our entire tactics every time we level because the powers we love to use are suddenly locked out. A lot of people, I suspect, would like to keep using the same two or three powers throughout their careers without having to jump through hoops just to go from "I" to "II."

Thanks for your consideration.
