I've been playing (well enough) on a system the does not meet the minimum posted requirements, but I'm planning to get a new system, and wondered how to move the installed game to the new computer. Do I have to move the compressed download file to the new system and just install it fresh? Move te Star Trek Online folder?
Best way is to do the intial install on the new pc . This way all the registry setttings are correct then copy the hoog files over to the new PC from your old updated PC.

Thanks for the response, but what are the "hoog files". There is a "Cryptic Studios" folder with some files and 2 sub folders "localdata" and "Star Trek Online" .

No need for that.
He just can move the game folder to another disk and set it up on another computer without problems.
No need for a instal.
And by the way: all you need to run ST-O is an internet connection and the startrekonline.exe but that would take rather long 'cause 10GiB need to be downloaded...

Not running the installer is an unsupported way of running the game and only works because I put in some silly hacks. Consider yourself on notice :-P
Why the need for Hacks?
Can't you just use the good old configuration files instead of the registry?
(and put them in the 'My Documents' Folder)
I kinda like portable programms that doesn't need an install.
Mostly because MMO players have a bad habit of copying the launcher programs around, instead of making shortcuts. This means when a launcher starts up, it always has to be able to find the game files so it knows where to patch. The only way to do that is to use some kind of global config with the install path in it (in our case, this is in the registry).

As a developer, I like it when developers will come straight to the point. Also, that one paragraph is more inside info from any developer of any game I have played.
Start the launcher, but once it starts to patch, cancel and quit.
Copy the entire folder and subfolders from the old system to the same location on the new one, replacing files.
Restart the launcher and let it just get whatever's left.
Or would it be no better than just install and let it patch?
You don't have to do step #2 (just uncheck "Start Star Trek Online" at the end of the installer). Install and then copy the hogg files over. Then just fire up the launcher and you are on your way.

The current logic more or less says that if it can't find the registry key look where the launcher is, and then look at the current working dir. It gets the job done, but really people should just run the installer seeing as it takes all of 10 seconds.

I was thinking step #2 to generate folders and set paths, but if it's not needed, that's a bit of time saved.

Thanks for the help. Just so I'm clear in my own mind, I run the installer, uncheck the "Start the game" box and close the intaller. Then copy the hogg files to the new installation and I should eb good to log in (and download the patches, or do the hogg files include the updates?)

Thanks again!
Great, thanks. So these would be the only file I need to transfer to a new install?
