I am limited to just 3 slots, and have used 2 for Fed, 1 for klingon, which in all honesty was an unlock feature after reaching lvl 6/7 on fed side.
Cryptic, please give us at least 4 slots, so we can try out 1 of each specialization + 1 klingon... please

I do not see any option to purchase additional character slots yet, and if you want to charge something reasonable, then please allow them soon?

Most MMO developers don't have the kind of development budget Blizzard has. As long as they use the C-Store for things that are not actually required to play the game nor required to be competitive with others, I'll look on microtransactions as a necessary evil.
Heck, there's at least one major MMORPG out there that went from subscription to free by supporting the entire game on the money they earn in microtransactions. Like it or not, microtransactions are the way of the future.
And I have played a few MMO where you don't need MT to get the "fun/cute" stuff.
Only 3 char slots... give me a break.
btw, see my sig! Jack hates MT's!!!
Yea.....he sure does. Hates em a lot. Must be why all of Cryptics games have them now.
Jack sure says a lot doesnt he?
Also, the link on yours doesnt work. I fixed it on mine. Go ahead and copy it if you need.
ooooooooooppppppssss
I am very wary of the upcoming Thursday option to buy additional character slots as Champions Online sells a set of 4 for $15 or 1200 Cryptic points. I don't want to claim money grab due to the initial slot allotment, but......
Personally, I think it would have gone over well and showed more faith in your player base along with encouraging experimentation by giving all players 5 slots to start with. This would have allowed for everyone to have enjoyed making a from each of the major races, but I guess character data over three has become too expensive to hold on MMO servers for free?
I propose providing those 4 additional character slots that can be had for $15 for CO to lifetime subscribers for free after 6 months or a year to encourage us to roll additional toons and try out new archetypes after recent expansions or content releases. Also, it would finally that pet peeve I had about not getting a "free month" as a lifetime subscriber as that is marked as part of the retail fee cost and all other subs get that added to end of their current subscription.
Secondly, Cryptic could take a page from Guild Wars and add an additional character slot or two for each additional retail game code you add to your account. For example, if someone had both a regular or collectors edition along with a digitial deluxe version attached to their account, they can get an additional two to four character slots added to their account for free.
I think using one or both of the above ideas may go a long way into showing your continued subscriber base that you are trying your best to keep them satisfied and reward them with items that would mean the most to them and their gameplay.
I don't care for them either, but anything that amplifies the development budget of a smaller game is a net good (provided the things being sold aren't out of whack).
And for your information, the largest MMO does have micro transactions, just not for in-game items. Want to switch servers? Pay a fee. Want to change your character's name? Pay a fee. The number of things they charge for keeps growing.
I'm not saying I wouldn't prefer a lack of microtransactions and still get a development budget like WoW, but that's not going to happen.
Looks like I could be wrong about that now as there not listed in the patch notes. Hopefully they just forgot to list them
It severely limits your re playability factor, and reduces the chance that you might make a toon and try something different. I wonder how many players have 3 feds toons, but cannot make a Klingon one because of this limit. No one wants to delete a character they have put so much effort into just to try something different.
Think of it this way...If I have 3 toons to make and no end game (hint), how long will I stay in the game?? More than likely until I have levelled those 3 characters. If I have more slots, that's longer I will remain playing the game, and more importantly for you, longer I will remain paying for the game.
I don't know about anyone else but certainly in games like WoW I have numerous toons across several servers, and that variety enables me to change when I want without deleting a whole load of time/effort.
Come on Cryptic you complain about being called money grabbers but you do things like this and then try to get people to pay for more.
It would have been nice to have multiple servers so that you could have 3 on each though.
