Hey everyone. I am an admiral and I love goning through infected, but half the time my team asks if I can vent. AND TODAY I WAS KICKED FROM A TEAM FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO! What does venting mean? I think its a way for players to talk to one another. If so how and where can I get the download?
So if you don't have a mike your f****d. Why would you wat to play with groups who ask
do you vent ?
are you geared?
did you do this instance before and win?
If no to any of the above then bugger off.
WHAT HAPPENED TO HAVING FUN?
and for those ppl who ask remember you were new too and had to do it a first time as well
so be a bit considerate to others and not be an TRIBBLE***e,

Although I agree with most of your statement, not having a mic isnt a problem most of the time IMO. You can still listen witch makes it esier on the rest of the team.
I don't understand why people feel the NEED to have vent for infected. C'mon! How hard is it to hit the terminal when you hear the other guys hit it? I've never used vent for Infected and coordination has never been a problem.

It's the WOW syndrome. It's all the ex WOW players.
It's the WOW syndrome. It's all the ex WOW players.
Yep. If WoW has taught me anything, it's that in order to do entry level, normal difficulty instances, you need to have beaten the hardest boss in the game and be fully geared in the highest level of equipment.
I agree that some people do get problematic by asking for all the best equipment and ventrilo and all the other rules of the teams. Just remember to give people a chance to run. I personal have no problem running with people who are not the best prepared or don't have ventrilo.
Although I use Vent for certain things, the ONLY time I have EVER felt that ventrillo was ABSOLUTELY required to succeed in a situation was when I was involved in "Large Scale Fleet Battles" in EvE Online. In those situations, I have to say that if we did not have a way to coordinate the hundreds of ships via Vent, we would not be able to do as well as we did.
Aside from that, doing Epic Raids in Age of Conan, day to day play in EvE Online or Champions Online, and so far any types of Fleet actions in STO that I have experienced do not require Vent, although it is always an advantage to not have to type.
So to those who would kick someone from a group because they don't have Vent, I say...

It is a shame they weren't adult enough to explain that to you with out just kicking you from the run. Sorry to hear you were kicked from a run for not knowing.
yeah that kick just meant that those people who need vent were really really in need of controlling everyones every move. real players running through these instances who know what they are doing dont need vent to accomplish the missions.
you're better off without people like that i would have ignored them.
Personally in my fleet we use vent as a social tool, chatting and stuff while playing what is mostly a solo game makes for an enjoyable evenings gaming.
Likewise. Our gaming group started in CoH with a range of casual to serious gamers, and has expanded to WoW, STO, Wii games, L4Dead, Civ 4, you name it. We often use Vent to chat more than coordinate, but in tougher spots it is helpful. We never require it, but it definitely adds some enjoyment to what we're doing.
My first time on teamspeak with EQ back in day was wierd,
It really put me off hearing what the people I played with actually sound like. Most were not the most expressive people. Lots of Umms, uhhh, yeah "dead air" *burp*
I got over it after a while, but the game was a bit of a fantasy escape, and hearing the real voices on the other side kinda broke the RP part of the game, and it just became a tactical game.

I don't think it is a "need" as much as it is a preference.
It's the WOW syndrome. It's all the ex WOW players.
My time in WoW did not involve vox-coms in WoW. I have been using Vent since 2002, the month after its release. That predates WoW. It is not WoW. It is preference and convenience.
When you invite people over to your house, do you exchange written notes or actually talk to them?
Vent is a great tool for communication, and even if you don't have a mic or don't want to use one, it can help other members of your 'raid' to explain fights or call audibles while they're mashing their keys. Who knows, maybe the team leader will have a dreamy voice, or a great sense of humor*.
The raidisodes aren't meant for PuGs anyway, so Vent at least shows other team members that your willing to put some effort into making the experience as smooth and productive as possible. However, I'd expect that the chance of someone being abusive over Vent is tied pretty closely to their willingness to insta-boot someone for not having it.
If you're new endgame content, it may seem elitist or mean, but chances are the person in charge has had their fill, in the past, of people showing up and expecting to be carried through content while investing zero brain power into the simplest of instructions.
Bottom line: Grab it. Install it. Love it. But be just as willing to mute someone if they start making the experience less than pleasant for you. Hell, leave the team if they're ****ing you off. Trust me, there are plenty of fun, easy-going people out there who are capable of running the content with you. Some of them even have Vent!

Not sure how you figure STFs aren't meant for PuGs. Yeah, you need teamwork to complete them successfully, but that doesn't require a known team, nor does it require vent. Yeah, both can help out towards that end, but neither is a guarantee either.
As to saying people having had their fill and being elitist, that's just the pendulum swinging completely the other way. Doesn't make it any more right. Ideally there's a happy medium in between, but chances are unlikely that you'll find a lot of people like that, at least in random groups. Those type of people are the ones who'll either make their own groups with their friends, or get sucked up by the fleets/guilds cause everyone wants em.
how hard can it be to get vent... just stop complaining and get it, if you dont want to talk then dont talk, just listen.
i'll tell you from experience, trying to explain how to kill the queen to newbs is a pain if you are typing it all out. plus, you need to have a fast way of telling the other guys to pull the **** out of the room before the room repops, or if the guys still decides to ignore advice, to tell the team to get ready to kill the repop nodes. we are talking about the mini boss in inflected ofc..
in fact... a simple statement...
if you dont have vent or dont know what vent is, most likely you are a newb and it'll just end up being a pain doing infected with you, so i wont. talk about, oo, i'll split beam the whole room.
Yeah, you guys are right. I am very good at Infected. I do it everyday. I've been team leader and everything I've seen team coop. just as good as a team with venting? It ****es me off to see teams kicking people of just because they get frustrated by not being able to talk to each other.
I will say this, Vent is a tool at your finger tips. It makes absolutely no sense what so ever to not at least download the client and listen to the raid leader. When I run infected I do require vent. Not because I want to be abusive. Not because I want to yell, but because I want a smooth run. If you have vent I dont even require that you have finished the mission before. Atleast I can explain the pulls/boss on vent instead of typing. For example I recently ran with someone who didnt have vent. All others were fleet members so we were on vent. Instead of having the member split beam the room or pull multiple nodes, I ask that he stay behind near me so they can pull the groups back. What does he do? Run up constantly. I typed in chat multiples times to stay back and he would. But again he would run up front. It's not that vent helps defeat the raid, but it does make things go smoothly. My team has gotten it down to 50 mins, why in the heck would I do it in 2 hours if I get someone in vent I can explain to them how WE run Infected. Even though people have done it, doesnt mean they do it the way we do ie. non zerging ,precision pulls, and the like. Some food for thought thats all. At the very least just download it and listen. Thats all that I require for my groups.

The good old you need full T9.5(that was when i quite the highest) fully epic gemmed with he best enchants to go to a heroic you can beat half naked with a green weapon.
For myself I am used to voice chats just need a new headset as I keep breaking them. (so damn fragile these things are) still if it is PVE you shouldn't need voice com, it is not like pvp where half a second really makes a huge difference.

Because the developers have posted the simple statement "Raidisodes are meant for 5 people whom play together regularly, not PUGs" on numerous occasions across these boards?

Makes no sense lol. Do I just friend everyone without playing with them first? Do I let people join my fleet without playing with them and making friends with them first? If I did that, then did the infected its the same as pugging. Then after a couple runs it becomes who you usually play with.
Or even if I had 4 people I usually play with and we decided to do the infected the first time, or if I got 4 strangers and did it the first time. Same thing, still gotta work out with the other four on how to beat the mission.
Everything starts with a pug. Friends, fleet, etc etc.
Honestly, only douchbags that you won't want to team up with will insist that you are in Vent. No need to listen to nerdy dictatorish teenagers barking orders.

Also, if you like to use both at the same time, you can look into Mumble at http://mumble.sourceforge.net/
It works very good.
