I posted this in another thread, but I think it will be buried and forgotten, so I am reposting here.
K, I have been discussing crafting with my son, who is a lvl designer, and we have some ideas that in our opinion will help gameplay.
Crafting:
Delete Memory Alpha. Make crafting trainable for BOs. You gather raw materials, train your Eng. BO to make eng consoles, upgrade same or make other goodies for you and to sell.
You do the same with every class of BO. Tacs make and upgraxde guns and consoles, Sci. makes consoles and devices.
This way YOU as a Starfleet officer do not sit around making things or go swap out things. You train, alot resources, and order your BOs to do it all.
This not only creates a more trek type of crafting (like wesly making gravaton beams in his spare time in STNG) But it also adds another layer of complexity and gameplay options for your Bos. It allows for more valuable BO's and a way to add many player made items to the economy. Many of which could be vanity or fluff as well as the more important stuff.
This also eliminates "looting" guns and consoles from dead Klingons or their ships. If you want a disruptor, you have to buy it on the exchange or train your BO, who might HAVE to be a Klingon to make and upgrade them. This would seperate the "powers" (Gawd, I hate the leftover from CO. Why aren't they "skills") that BOs have and make them more unique to each other.
The only thing you should pick up from the ground is raw materials, goodies that are little "treasures", and mission specific artifacts.
This is just one area of improvement that we have been discussing. I think this crafting setup would be much more Trek and much more fun and meanigful.
