Nice little video guide there and he makes a good point about ship weapons. Unless you're going for a particular look or feel, it's better to stick with the basics of Phasers, Disruptors, Photons and Quantums.

Heh, took Disruptors and Quantums solely for the look and feel of it. Must have been the umm... inner gamer instinct taking over there, had no idea about the costs involved. Thanks for posting this, it was good stuff.

Better not pull a fast freespec while drunk, looks like you could end up with a nasty hangover. hehe. :)

Yeah I shall be sticking with phasers and quantums. Seems like a good combo, plus looks 'canon'.

Only problem is the skill builder is outdated. No attack vectors.

Excellent STOked video. Probably the only one I'd ever watch beginning to end. Very informative, very useful, and actually added to my Youtube favorites to watch at home later. :D Kudos, STOked.

As per the cost of Respec at Admiral and not having to do a ton of Exploration missions for merits it's actually not so bad to make 20K merits if you do the "Defend the Gamma Orionis Sector" mission for merits: 588 merits per mission. That's about 35 missions for 1 respec.

PvP also makes this fly as well.

    How so?

So you have to specialise, what's the problem?

Once you'd learnt every skill, what then? Complain about a lack of content because you can solo everything easily?

Every game has a skill cap, this MMO is no different.

A good STOked episode that, I must admit the 45 minute - 1 hour ones are a bit daunting to watch at times, I think the 15 minute timeline worked out quite nicely. Also great to get the respec info out to the masses so they don't make as many mistakes when specing out :-)

Wow, nice. You should audition for the next Star Trek movie. Watching the math section on the skill points with regards to phasers/disruptors etc.. made me feel like I was listening to Janeway and Tuvok babble at each other...

Well done sir. Keep up the good work with the videos.

*imagines doing 35 Defend missions in a row*

    *weeps openly*

It takes about the same number of Exploration 3-packs (if you always have the 3-pack mission active and don't get no-XP ones like the 5 anomaly harvesting mission), which is slightly less unbearable to me.

I like the Jeremy only format. It's short, concise, and full of info without tons of banter.

Eh, I watch the show for the banter more than the info. Jeremy's a good guy, but I miss the Three Stooges in Space thing.

Wow, thanks for all the great feedback, guys. Also, thanks to Diamonds for the DEV stamp. ;)

Can't believe we've made it to page 3 without a hater piping up!

Dammit, I knew I'd forget something. Yes, this is an important drawback to the current version of the builder. I'm hoping VERY strongly that it will be updated with the new "Live" info when Season One is officially launched. If it doesn't get updated, then... someone will need to build a new one. Chop-chop, people!

(sidenote: Would love it if Cryptic published their own, here on their site.)

Yes, but that's still 35x3 separate maps worth of blowing up borg ships. I'm not sure that it would remain fun for that long. In fact, I'm pretty certain that it would NOT.

Ciphernemo mentioned PvP as an alternative to the merit grind... but let's face it, Admiral rank PvP is not all that much fun. If you meet a Klingon that knows how to use his Vo'quv to its full potential, you're dogmeat.

The "best" option, if you MUST grind merit, is probably going to be a combination of the three (Explore, Defend, PvP) just to not burn yourself out. Throw in some STF runs for spice. =)

I'm honestly hoping that pointing it out during an episode of STOked will raise awareness of the issue to the point of having something done about it. Either improve the special secondary effects, or raw DPS, of each tier of weaponry. Or even out the Skillpoint costs.

    HAH! Nice analogy.

The format of STOked, going forward, is likely going to become a combination of the two. Our news segment (when we have news to share) will be the usual back-and-forth banter & opinions, and will also occasionally include a "Panel Discussion" type of segment. But the "You Got Mathed" segment will, from this point forward, be a pre-shot and pre-edited bit of media, like what you saw today. If we can get it out on time. ;) It's amazing to me that a 6-minute video can take 8+ hours to edit/encode/publish.

Like Ive said already, I totally agree. Jeremy was the only one I ever liked on the show anyways. And half the time the other two interrupt or argue with half the reasonable things he has to say.

You got the guy who wears glasses constantly yapping and taking this off trek. Like the disruptive kid in class, always trying to be funny and get all the attention.

And then you've got chubby Riker who is the ultimate fan boy. While he tries to keep things on track he interrupts Jeremy constantly, and is a little TOO positive about STO. Its too over the top.

Jeremy's points are always reasonable, well thought out, and he's patient with the other two, who sort of act like grown up children.

Anyways, I wish Jeremy would just run the show alone from now on. Then I might actually be able to sit through a whole episode without getting annoyed and turning it off after 5 minutes of constant blathering.

    Jeremy is WIN. ;)

This skill planner doesn't have quite as many features, but it does include the new abilities:

I am very happy that you pointed this out, but I honestly don't think anything will happen till prolly Season 2.

I do like the short segment with just Jerm. Not that I don't like the other guys, but they "seem" to not know as much and be on the ball like you are :P

I've been watching STOKED since game launch. I like these guys.

If they can keep the shows around 20-25min I think more ppl would watch the whole thing. 15min is too short....but 45min to a hr is too long. Chris and Jeremy both are very informative/funny. Bryan on the other hand (while seeming to be a nice guy) interupts and babbles too often. Alot of time could be cut out right there......

Looking forward to the next STOKED guys :D

    P.S.

Oh and Jeremy.....your toon looks like that alien off of American Dad. I lmao watching him running around at the end and hand palming some npc while using a pistol. Good stuff.
