Unable to start Game Client: The Operation completed Successfully

After completeing the 10gb patch this morning, I went ahead and ran the launcher (version CL_2010_03_22_11_32). It allowed me to log in and then went to the patch screen. It showed it was patching. The dialogue below the patching percentage bar ran through 22 files. It stated that it was "Mirroring" them. Upon completion, the launched dispalayed the normal Engage button. When I press it, I receive the message "Unable to start Game Client: The Operation completed successfully" IAny help would be appreciated.

I ran the Force Verify and it had me submit a ticket, which I did.

There is no error code showing on the launcher, so I copied this from the Errors.log file in the game directory:
100323 22:16:35 33 [1] ESC : The patchclientlib is internally recording error code : 36\nA file was locked that could not be open for writing. - Cannot create file (C:/Program Files/Cryptic Studios/Star Trek Online/Live/crypticError.exe)

When the launcher crashes, it should show an error ID number. I need that code to know what the problem is.

Try deleting your HKCU\Software\Cryptic Studios\CrypticLauncher::GameHistory registry value, it looks like it is corrupted.

I'm having the same or similiar problem.

The client had started. It then indicated Connecting where it usually shows Patch Progression. After 10 mins or so where it did not change and I had verified that I had a stable internet connection, I closed the application. I then restarted the application. I am now up to 12 times trying to update the launcher.

My errors file has a date of 3/18/2010 so I don't think that it has any useful information.

I have no other diagnostic information.

That doesn't sound even remotely related, given that you aren't seeing this error message or the same error ID number.

I deleted it, but I'm still receiving the same message in the launcher. > Unable to start Game Client: The Operation completed Successfully

And then run the force verify, in theory it shouldn't crash now.

I ran the force verify after deleting HKCU\Software\Cryptic Studios\CrypticLauncher::GameHistory registry value, and the launcher again crashed, giving me the error ID # 4585303.

I solved the problem. While in my registry, I happened to look in HKCU\Software\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online and noticed that "InstallLocation" was showing D:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios instead of C:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios. I changed D:\ drive to C:\ as it should be and everything works as expected. Thank you very much for you time on this issue.

Interesting, did you move the game files or something?

No, I installed on C:\ drive. However, when I first installed, I had started the install on D:\, but cancelled that. I went ahead with the install on C:\. Everything worked just fine until yesterday.
