I always think it's great when developers meet and/or exceed their subscriber base goals. That says to me that they plan to keep up the development of such a game.
Unfortunately though there are too many people, especially on this forum, who think this is a weak failing number because WoW and EVE have so much more currently.
Not really he said the game met their expectations which was 100k .... especially mentioning that he refers to a statement before Launch where he said their target is 100k, this could mean the game has 100,001 to One fantastillion Subs .... everything else is just an assumption

He said "well over 100,000 subs." There wasn't any waffling involved. Those were his exact words. That says to me that they have over 100,000 subs. To say that they didn't say they have over 100,000 subs when they did, in fact, say they have over 100,000 subs doesn't really fly.
Thats exactly what i was trying to say .... though over 100k could mean anything over 100k ... didn't say is was less than 100k .... i think it's just wrong to think it's just 100k
Well over 100,000 only means it's somewhere over 100,000. They should use the high end instead, since it sounds more impressive. "STO: Play with nearly infinity other players"
I'm glad they hit their mark on subcriptions. It means the investment they made in marketing and advertizing paid off.
Now I guess the trick is keeping them and growing the subs from here. Season 1 coming out, Season 2 right behind it. Sounds like the right path to me.
I don't want to go play Eve, I want STO to fix their bugs and add content. It is up to them to decide where they go from here.
Wonder how many subs they have as of right now....
Because its sure hard to believe 100k people are playing sto right now.
100k right after launch I believe easily.
I don't think any game has all of their subs playing at once. You really think WoW has 11 million people playing at the exact same time? No. It's more like a few hundred thousand at any given time. STO probably has 10-15k on at any given time, but I would certainly not bet that they don't have 100k+ total subs at this point in time.

They aren't all logged in at the same time. Also, if it's roughly 10% of total subs logged in at any given time, 10,000 people is perfectly reasonable from what I've seen.
Lastly, 100,000 people is 0.01% of the worlds population. It's one out of every 70,000 people. It's not like it's a huge number. It's only 7 times higher than the ratio of serial killers to non-serial killers in the US at any given time(according to the FBI's 7 active at any time theory).
Considering EVE Online had about 300,000 a year ago, and it has been out for over 6 years, 100,000 just after the predictable first 30 day drop off is not that bad.
It is certainly a number that can be built upon, and not a reason for any gloom and doom. Now it is the next 6 - 9 months that will make or break STO (in my opinion, of course).
I wasn't surprised by the official figure. I have been expecting about as many. It's nice to see that many people play the game. I expect the number to go up as those that quit temporarily come back and find a dealth penalty, difficulty slider, episode replayability, ship interiors, new Fed and Klingon missions, and diplomacy, among other things. Then, later this year after we get some things like the Romulan faction and a skill cap raise, I expect even more to come.

For a launch MMO, yes.

I'll just leave this here...
Well might be ... but nobody said the game has 100.000 subscribers ....
Jack Emmert did here.

But this all started because you said nobody claimed to have that many subs in the first place.
