C.S. Ticket left yesterday - No response?

Sent a C.S. ticket yesterday and have received no response. What's up with that? Did they already bail out on this game?

I'm receiving an error message when trying to load the game, "A file was locked and cannot be written".

I found a file in the directory with a DELETEME in it - but it cannot be moved or deleted, and I checked for write-protect. Nothing.

I've never had this error before but havne't been able to log on for two days.

It is not a PC problem.

    1) Yes it is... but not in the way people saying it around here would make you think. If you right click on the folder (or possibly the file) and click properties, you should see a "read-only" box checked. Uncheck it and you should be fine.

    2) Took a week for them to reach me.

Thanks - but I know how to manipulate files and right clicking doesn't do it. Properties shows it as editable and I still can't delete or move it.

Wow - a week to reach you? That's not a good sign.

ok, THAT'S not normal... damn... time to to download.com and get something to fix this. (And to be blunt, I would honestly de-install first. When I cant delete something a GAME put there, that's a red-flag that I dont want that game to me)

Assuming you have already tried a reboot, I would grab Killbox and use that to wipe the file. I would also run a chkdsk since this may indicate filesystem corruption.

    Good troubleshooting advice.

If that doesn't help, could it be permission errors?

Thank you. Seriously, Im sorry I didnt think about that. I really would hate to see someone miss out on this that doesn't have to.. but I know myself... and something like that instincitively freaks me out for what might have been added to my machine.

So I guess I was correct that this is the file?

Why would the game include a file on your PC that says "DELETE ME", then blow your log in this way?

By the way - I've been playing since beta and this never popped up before.

In order to facilitate a self-updating launcher I believe.

The way a launcher auotupdate works is to download the new version in memory, rename the current version to .deleteme, write out the new version to the normal .exe filename, and then restart into the new version. The new version is then supposed to delete the old .deleteme file. If this process gets interrupted in some way, you end up with this situation.

Ah! That explains a lot whenever I see people mentioning this file on their PC/install folder. Thanks. Good indicator that they either closed the updater in-between this process or that it quit/crashed for some other reason. :)

Dumb question time. What happens if the launcher process above doesn't complete correctly. could a leftover launcher.deleteme hang the process?

Example, the launcher.deleteme gets left undeleted. I think you would be ok for the current launcher.exe, but next time it trys an update to itself. Would the update fail at the point where the rename command gets issued, due to that being an existing name?
Now, if there's a check and a file remove command to clean up an old launcher.deleteme first it would all work.
