After listening to the podcast, I have some respect for Jack Emmert!

It was straight up. Honesty was great. Shoot the marketing guy. Go kill some mission designers please. Cuz I have no idea where to go sometimes. LOL.

He posted in my thread. How awesome is that? He posts in forums!

And before you say link or it didn't happen, the link's in my signature. Page 11 or 13 I think.

Fascinating, Captain. I'm not detecting any signs of "this game is DOOOOOOOMED!" or "STFU fanboi, this game sux!" in this thread.

Before that inevitability happens, I'll add my agreement to this thread. Jack was quite frank in a lot of areas, including the state of the game and the current and future states of MMOs. Definately a lot better to hear than some canned statement polished up by the PR dept.

I still cant forgive Jack for ED and the Purple Patch.....or his adversion to giving players "Real" Numbers instead of this weaksauce "Some examples of" stuff...........but I'm here for long hual as I'm a Lifer.

I just hope they get some of the really crappy things fixed soon......my buddy is running out of monitors to put his fist thru....

Not DoooOOoooOOom, exactly, but having played Cryptic's other games I've learned from experience to take anything Mr. Emmert says with a dozen or so shakers of salt. Until it's in the game, it's just talk. 'Jack Talk'. To coin a phrase.

Putting out new content with without addressing previous bugs from the previous "patch" != "is getting better". Having Cryptic say....The new patch comes out on Tuesday....and then gets put off till whenever != "is getting better"

LOL...keep your head buried in the sand fanboy.

Everyone, but mostly the "lifers" got royally screwed. "Just bend over and take it sucka !!! " , should be Cryptic's new motto.

Jack Emmer sounds like a smart guy who really knows his comics and games :D
A really good interview, with good info on thing on the whole MMO culture, how some people
actually compare STO that have been out for a mont to a game like wow that has been out seven years.

And yes if they make Godzilla i'm sure it would be fun. And really nice to hear what he said about the survey
about what the polls showed, and as a consequence what will be in season 2. And as he said game can only improve for the players and become better with more work done to it as time goes by with updates and more content.

    addressing bugs == getting better
new content == better, even if they have to push it back to release it polished
new gameplay(death penalty, difficulty slider) == getting better even if it's in development and not implemented.

They HAVE NOT addressed the obvious bugs...they are still there from beta. New content == GOOD. Polished? oh you mean your definition of polished as in it just doesn't crash the game polished? They haven't put out anything yet that is polished. Even the new Cure content still has the tactical cube bugged where 1 person can destroy it. Is that the polished you're talking about?

saying "new gameplay" is like saying you found a unicorn at this moment in time. You still don't have a 45 day patch either....right?

obvious, meaning it starring at you ....like the system map that you can't zoom out to see the whole sector...that kinda TRIBBLE is what im talking about. It used to work fine until a few patches ago...

I'm not being selfish, these obvious bugs affect everyone, including you whether you're aware of it or not.

I thought it was a great interview! I loved the part where he was talking about them playing upstairs and seeing funky descriptions that made no sense, then asking each other about it, then walking downstairs to ask someone what the hell they were thinking.

    OMG! They're human!

    Thanks for the interview, Jack.

Best thing I heard on the interview (paraphrasing):

Sometimes I'm on a mission and I don't know WTF to do. I had to go ask in global chat.

Just listened to the cast now.

Big joke 'What does that mean?' and the talk about STO around that point relating to gameplay etc.

Yes, big up to Jack for doing this interview, yes kudos for being so blunt, and yes I do see the 'funny' side. Thing is, to all the players that still have lots of varying problems in game, this is no joke.

I have a life subscription for a number of reasons. Not least because I am trusting the makers to improve the game and sort the problems. Interviews like this one can easily be interpreted to show the makers as being somewhat cavalier though. :(

Personally, I enjoyed the interview - even though it was so long!

Let us face it - things can only get better!

Edit: BTW have used Tribble some and it looks like some of the problems - particularly at start of game are being fixed / polished for update in the season 1 patch.

    Hi guys:

I listened to the whole pod cast and enjoyed it. It confirmed my personal question as to whether the developing company employees actually played the game they released.

For example, he said he went and asked his people what they were thinking when they placed certain whacked descriptions on weapons and what they do. Or the comment he made about being granted a mission and not knowing where to go having to use global chat in his own game to find out. I got a huge chuckle about that. How many of us have been in those 2 situations? All of us at least once.

It was definiately not usual marketing fluff that you see in other mmo public interviews and dev chats. It was truthful and impressed me in a huge way. Long live STO.

I am a BIG fan of Jack! He is my Idol!

Here are examples of why I can trust jack and his games! You can take his word to the bank!!

Q: Which factions will be in launch?
A: Starfleet and Klingon. 2 Factions, FULL PVE Content and those 2 factions will compete indirectly for resources and directly for pve. (2008 Interview)

Look at the CoH forums say about him! Again <3 Jack!

I have to agree with jack! It’s WoWs fault that mmos suck these days!
“Jack Emmert says it isn’t the reviewers or the fans that are ruining the MMORPG industry, “Wow has almost destroyed the MMO genre”

Oh and the best one yet!
    Jack thinks micro-transactions are NONSENSE!“
Cryptic Studio’s Jack Emmert: Microtransactions are the biggest bunch of nonsense. I like paying one fee and not worrying about it – like my cellphone. The world’s biggest MMO isn’t item based, even though the black market item GDP is bigger than Russia … microtransactions make me want to die
