Ground PVP = Chain Hold Hell?

Dear all, can you tell me what I am doing wrong in ground PVP please? At the moment it seems to me to be one long, tedious series of chain holds/roots where the player is completely out of control of their toon. Hopefully this is just me being dumb, if not I won't be ground PVPing again as waiting for one team to rack up 40 sets of chain holds for the win is not my idea of fun.

That is of course when you are not being 'insta-popped' by expose/exploit.....

Thanks in advance for the advice.

You have summed up the ground game in a nutshell. Quotes like, "Get a team, learn to play, and stop whining" will be forthcoming.

My suggestion, if you cant laugh off the stupid crowd control mechanics of the ground game, and they are stupid, don't bother trying. If you got thick skin and a good sense of humor you can dabble and from time to time have some fun.

You may try PVP on Tribble, - from what I read Hypo Sprays can be used while held and add Hold-Immunity for a few seconds.

Actually PvP is still a hold-fest on Tribble, because Hypos work about half the time and have an extremely long cooldown. So don't get your hopes too high.

Am I right in thinking that as Hypo's have such a long colldown it is still going to be 'reach for the hold WIN button'? In five minutes you'll get held a dozen times.......

I feel no real difference on Tribble. Even in PvE, I end up in hold chains from Borg all the time. Now I can eat away all hypos I have on one mob, just to be frozen in the next one when I ran out of hypos. PvP wasn't that bad, but that's coming from a KDF character with a shitload of hold abilities. Not that its a I win button, but that's likely my own stupidity (note to self: Do not use dance emotes when waiting for enemy).

Well, the 'insta-popping' should happen a bit less often in after the patch, since they seem to have taken the holds out of the expose system on the tribble test server.

As for chain holds... yeah, it happens, and it sucks. Not much you can do about it really; fortunately, most players don't do that (although I occasionally run into entire teams that do nothing but :().

In my experience, the real chain holding comes when they get into melee range, so you need to try and keep your distance. This is complicated by them usually starting the chain with a stun pistol or stasis field to stop you getting away. Counter this by sticking with your team; against a group, most opponents won't try to run right up to you, preferring to hang back and stick to cover. You will, of course, just stand there and get shot while stunned, but that can be survivable; especially if your team is paying attention.

If you find yourself off on your own, keep an eye on your map and just keep running away from any Klingons you see, until you are able to regroup with your allies.

there are too many and it is too often.
even VM at times in space does not offer the immunity it should at times.

i dont mind a few holds, and for a time duration shorter then they have now, but the frequency and time is just over the top.
i was under the impression that once you were held, that you got immunity from holds and the like for like a min after or so. maybe i read that wrong. to say the least it seems the immunities are not taking effect after a hold.

This is easily fixed with longer cool down times.

If you cant beat them, join them. I didnt want to drop my Bat'leth but i now rock a stun pistol.

It's a shame, but I have had to adopt the same play style. It's a shame it's all about hold/expose/exploit.
