Thinking about rolling a klingon

So i've been playing this game for a total of 2 days(like 6 hours in total hehe) and so far i'm liking it.. i was planning to start with a klingon character but apparantly i need to level up first(lieutenant 5 was it? or higher?)

Also from what i saw i cant do missions as a Klingon like i do so far as a fed? what do Klingon do to level up other then PVP? is there absolutely no PVE content what so ever? not even random ships to destroy in Klingon sectors?

For those who are not playing anymore and just troll the forums please do not reply with flames against the game and saying how it sucks or whatever.. i'd like to get replies from ppl who actually still play the game as klingons, thanks.

I'll say its 95% BGs for energy creds/xp/marks. 5% 'pve' which involves nebula quests, meaning you kill x amount of ships (varies for levels) for completion and medals of exploration, however these have a 4-5min reset cooldown wheras BGs are constant chain popping more or less.

You can do PvE missions, just they lack story. PvE Klingon missions are: Fly into a nebula, find enemy ships, fight them. Its just fighting enemy groups of ships all time. So actually you can do PvE missions only, but PvP is a bit faster for leveling up.

What about "loot" ? i mean when i do the random nebula quests i guess the enemy drops a random piece here and there but in the fed's quest i saw some "special" green colored loot or something that you attune and is better then the random junk npc's drop... this is not my first MMO but like i said i'm eally new to this game..

anyways so as klingon your option is just to buy the better gear from npc's and not get it through quests?

PvP is faster for leveling? Have you played a low level Klingon lately?

PvP might work, if there was ever anyone to PvP against. Empty Queues do not promote PvP leveling.

In the higher tiers PVP is quite ok for lvling.. i have to agree that in T1 its a bit light but keep at it. The pve content can be a bit of a grind. Personally I don't do the pve if i can help it.. I do the first nebula missions when they come available (cause the SP is good) but mostly stick to pvp =)

Playing a Klink IMHO is alot of fun.. persist into T2 and you should have alot more pvp. We are getting more content.. but its not going to be overnight. There are also Fleet action missions that are fun and don't have anything to do with pvp.. they can be good for loot (T1 rewards or your lvl drops from the ships you destroy).

Welcome to the dark side 8)

My Klingon character is a LC2. I gave up on him for now because there is never anyone to fight in the T2 pvp Queue. Primetime on a Saturday, no one there.

I haven't checked in a couple weeks, things may have improved but I doubt it.

the Klingon pve missions don't have loot rewards, only xp (not counting cash, honor, &c.) they're also exactly the same thing over and over (destroy n squadrons of enemy ships 3 times for 75 badges of exploration) except that n gets higher as you level, and the enemy changes from feds to romulans to cardassians to borg.

yes, they are very boring, especially when you're forced to do them because the pvp vendor is broken in that particular tier and badges of exploration are the only way to get certain pieces of gear. but on the plus side, they're always available even if you're the only klingon logged on in your entire tier (pvp queues require a minimum of 5 players on each side).

the next patch will add more pve missions, but they're just a bunch of federation 'grind' missions now made available to klingons as well. they won't be anything new if you've seen them on the fed side already.

one last note: as soon as you enter T3, take a look at the T4 vendors and decide what gear you're going to want. some of the T4 gear needs T3 badges or medals, so tally up how many T3 badges and/or medals you will need in T4 and grind those out (and put them aside) early. you don't want to wait until you're almost T4 because you might level out of T3 before you've finished and come up short (and currently, once you hit T4 there is no way to get T3 badges or medals). this has been broken since beta, and Cryptic has not indicated that they plan to fix it anytime soon although it's been reported multiple times.

heh i appriciate the info though much of it i have no clue whatcha talking about but like i said i only played the game for several hours so i'll figure it out eventually... anyways like you said i will stack up on badges when i grind missions in T3(T3 is a certain rank like captain or something i assume? :P not sure how the tiers work here yet)

I can create a klingon once i get in fed to lieutenant 5? or do i need to reach some other lvl\rank?

Got so many other questions but i'll just wait till i actually get home and in game and hopefully i'll find some patient klingon to answer my questions :) thanks for the input

Once you hit Lt. 6, log out and you have the option to create a Klingon character. Don't faint at the overwhelming customization options though.

The medals are "currency". On Fed side, you have vendors that sell you things like kits, weapons and all for energy credits. On higher levels, you can also buy special items (green = uncommon, blue = rare, like the ones you saw as mission rewards), and you pay them with the "other currency", like medals. You only earn badges and medals in certain missions (some in PvP, some in exploration and so on). So you need to do x missions to gain x medals/badges, and for these, you buy the uncommon/rare gear.

On KDF side, you will not get these items offered as rewards from NPCs, like Feds do. You buy everything from vendors (or, if you are lucky, have energy credits and find what you need, from Exchange).

    the tiers refer to rank. tier1 = Lieutenant, tier2 = Lieutenant Commander, tier3 = Commander, tier4 = Captain, tier5 = Brigadier General.

in order to unlock the ability to make a Klingon, you need to either level your fed to Lieutenant 6, or complete the "Stop the Signal" mission. after that you may need to log off and back on again in order to see that Klingons have been unlocked for you.

That'll be LT commander 1. Raptors are a bit paper thin with their limited science/engineering slots though.
