Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.....

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I tried to send another friend of mine a 5 day trial key only to discover that can only do that one time. Talk about a company shooting themselves in the foot. Players should be able to send as many invites to the game as possible. Being allowed to only give away one and only one invite makes no sence to me at all. Why would a company want to do something that could affect their profit margin? In that regard STO can learn a lot from other MMO's like EVE. They don't place limits on how many people a player can invite. Hope this changes. :(

They could simply chain the accounts together with the buddy key so if you get a key generated and give it to someone who is banned for credit selling youd be banned too.

How about 1 invite per paid month's sub? (For lifer's, 1 invite per month since subbing)

I doubt that'd increase spam significantly, and a "second try" will always be less than a month away.

    That's a very good idea.

They do this so you only loose one of your friends for recomending STO to them.

One time is nowhere near enough unless you only have one friend. I have several, and I would like to give them all 5 day trials. Cryptic is losing potential customers due to this.

I didn't take in to account that they were trying to keep the farmers out. Very commendable. but there are other ways to do that to keep from shooting themselves in the foot. A few of which are in this thread. I think you should be allowed to give pass keys out every few weeks to your friend and yes link the account of the one doing the invite to the key. Should a farmer show up using that key then permanent the farmer and give the sender a 14 day suspension followed by a permaban on the second offense in the event the sender had no idea what the receiver was going to do with it.

Whatever the case. I think we can all agree that being allowed to send only one invite per account, or three as was the case of someone that bought the collectors edition, which baffles me btw as to why they would do that. Some kind of improvement is needed here. I had a friend that I wanted to send an invite to that is playing eve-online and was surprisingly unable to do to a company that wants to suffer from the hole in your foot syndrome.
