Please I would ask we NEVER see the Borg as a playable Faction.
Not even sure why one would want this but lets take a look at some of the canon specifics on Borg.
1)No Individuality
Remember, you wouldnt be a "person". You wouldnt have independent thought. There would be no "Role-play" or personality to a Borg. A borg is simply and definatively a single pice of a machine, a cog in the engine, it by itself is nothing and no one. The borg are a hive consciensness(sp?). There are no individuals.
In the game that would be trying to play a single borg with no individual personality or voice. Doesn't make sense.
a)As such one couldnt talk as a Borg. No reason too, they dont communicate to each other vocally. In canon we only hear a recorded message more or less when speaking to others, "We are the Borg, resistance is futile etc etc etc. Only one who CAN talk is the queen. So PC's wouldnt be able to talk.
b) You cant make your own decisions...you just have orders appear in your mind and you carry them out..because you have no free will. Just a machine. Pretty useless concept as a player character
2)Sluggish with slow response times.
Borg wouldnt be able to run or sprint. Only slow walk. They never "hurry". We've seen this in Canon time and time again. Also all cool downs should be increased by 4 to 5 times for many abilities, remember, they dont react quickly. But when they do they adapt.
3)Ships?
What ships? We have seen Cubes and spheres and that would be it. And those could in NO WAY be as potent as the NPC Borg or the faction is OP
4) Ultimate Nemesis to all Races
There really does need to be an Ultimate Bad guy for ALL the factions, both present and proposed. The Borg are just that, fit every nemesis and Arch villain role. To eliminate that would be to remove a vital and integral and adaptive piece of mission lore and possibilities in the game.
5)Liberated Borg?
Really I don't even think this is an option. Think about it, we saw the constant struggle 7 of 9 had aboard the Voyager. Would you as a liberated Borg want to be around others that could snap at any second and attempt to summon the Borg to your location? Would you really trust them after having gone through all the personal, mental and emotional struggles, knowing at any secon you could revolt? No Liberated Borg would be truly safe around each other for fear of another succumbing to the call.
There are so many other major faction type races to look at.
Romulans...no need for further explanation there
Cardassians/Dominion... Either alone or allied, say the Democracy is overthrown and the Cardassian Union is revived...now a hostile faction to both Feds AND klingons right on the border.
The Dominion regains its power to the far side of Cardassian space....etc etc..perhaps they ally? Great possibilities here.
The Hirogen
Gorn/Orion/Naussican alliance...get their own sector perhaps
Heck you even have the Undine, new sector of space standing alone by itself but reachable from the other factions.......
Borg as a playable faction is never going to happen. Although I would point out they are NOT the 'Ultimate' bad guy since we have the Undine to fufil that role.
Liberated Borg is here to stay and so will the Borg Bridge officers. Both of which are special bonuses and the latter of which MAY become available through MT later. If you dont like that:
I would have to agree on the point that assimilated Borg from the primary collective (the Queen's hive) should not be a playable faction. However, there have been more than one instance of splinter groups of Borg that disconnect from the hive and band together.
Lore was leader of one of these groups, the drones from uni-matrix 0 were another and those drones from the "Unity" episode were yet a third.
Personally I want to see Romulans
I hope the Borg will be a playable faction. You would simply be following the orders of the Collective instead of the orders of the High Council or Star Fleet. Not that different really. And though there are only three or four ship types may seem insignificant, its similar to the Klingon faction - the Borg use what works.

Tough, deal with it.
We are talking faction, not BO's or playable PC's in the federation or whatnot. So tone down the aggression there Napolean...we arent at war lol
Not completely outraged by the idea of a Borg faction, although I guess they would end up with many spheres, pyramids and whatever other basic shapes they're supposed to use. But I would rather have Romulans first, because of strictly selfish reasons.
We need to leave some factions as shootable and other as playable.
I was borderline with this one but because we have to much game content guaged at shooting borg even if you played the hive mind you would have see it all.
What about something like a new race from another quadrant like the Zind or a dementional race that Q can introduce us to.
And anothe thing.... as a lifetimer I expect to have a Liberated Borg with any new race... so how can a borg race have a liberated borg.... unless we play 7of9 !?!
No need to even read your post, because its pretty simple:
If you dont want to play a Borg, no one will force you to.
However, you have no say in what other people do or WANT to do with their $15 a month.
Ahhh but theres the crux oh large Lobed one...I CAN say what I want to see or NOT see for my own 15$ a month...
Just as you can too..thats the utter beauty of it.
Oh, its also might I add the purpose of the forums..to share ideas, to <hopefully> debate and counter debate topics in <again hopefully> creative and constructive manner. An interchange of thoughts and ideas.
Seriously man....Is this particular forum so used to Flames that we do so automatically instead of just conversing? Seems like peeps are rather on the defensive here.
Just my 2 EC's

Actually, you cant. You see, I dont really like to see people running around in pink unforms. But even though I dont like it, that doesnt change the fact that people SHOULD be able to do whatever they want with THEIR character. Saying that YOU dont want to play a faction is fine. Saying OTHER PEOPLE shouldnt be able to play a faction because you dont approve of it is the height of arrogance.

Borg as a playable faction will effect everyones game play. Running around in pink uniforms, discusting but hardly game effecting.
Should people be allowed to play as the Borg faction, I dont know. Is someone allowed to express their opinion on the subject, most definately.

No it wont. If you havent noticed, this game is 99% instanced and you basically have no interaction with other faction players except in PvP. If your talking about balance issues, that is something for the Devs to work out with ANY faction they add, so whether its Romulans or Borg is irrelevant to that topic. If your talking about not liking what you see, then thats just too bad and is no different than the pink uniforms I mentioned.

Disagree. The addition of any and every playable faction will fundimentally effect this game. The only way to avoid that is to limit this playable faction to not having any interaction with other players. Instanced or not, interaction changes everything.

Ok, go right ahead and describe how a player Borg faction would fundamentally effect the game in a way that any OTHER playable faction that the Devs might add(like Romulan, Cardassian, Dominion) wouldnt. And I'm talking about real game changing effects, not just something you dont personally like the look or idea of(like the pink uniforms I mentioned earlier).

We Romulans would age from waiting if they do the Borg first? Age has a profound effect on your ability to play the game.

I dont think anyone is talking about the order in which any specific factions should be added, though I do personally hope Romulans are next...after they finish Klingons of course.

I think the OP want's an actual "good" race to be the ultimate bad guy for STO... not a crappy Voyager race that was introduced only to beat up The Borg.

No discussion there. If they cannot do the Klingons properly, they cannot do any other faction properly either. So it's not like it would matter then.

I agree in principle. But something like Lore of Hugh's group, only more massive and retaining some of the Borg hierarchy would work. Queens instead of Captains, Unimatrix in place of crew.
I actually dont see it as a bad idea. no ginormous cubes to fly of course but....remember the individually thinking kinda-liberated borg that lore was manipulating? how about an offshoot like them. They move at normal speed, have ships.....I honestly think it could work very well
I could see it being a sleek, well sold expansion feature.
Resistance... is not futile.
Join the Borg Resistance, a separatist group that seeks to topple the Collective. Unlike Captain Picard or even Seven of Nine, these former Borg retain none of their original memories or personality. They are Borg but they are Borg who, severed from the Collective, believe that the only way for their race to adapt and fend off the threats to its survival is to embrace individuality.
The Resistance is no friend of the Federation or the Klingon Empire but has a tense and sporadic alliance with both groups, seeking to subvert the Borg Collective into a stronger, more flexible power. For that goal to happen, the Queen of the Borg Collective must fall.
The Borg Resistance has replaced collective consciousness with oligarchy, monarchy with constitutional monarchy, each hive having its own queen, each drone a free will of its own. They pursue science, art, music, drama and literature -- but all in a distinctively Borg way.
And at the head of the organization is the woman responsible for liberating these Borg; Once known as Annika Hansen, once known as Seven of Nine, she is now the Queen Mother who shares power with the elected Drone General Executive Zed-One. They seek not to annihilate the Collective or liberate it but to act as revolutionaries toppling the leadership and transforming it into a traditional Alpha Quadrant power.

but yeah, borg would be a terrible playable faction

I can agree along those lines. Finish the Klingons first and formost then Romulans would make a good next.

You don't rank up in the Collective.. You're not the Captain, You don't choose what to do, You... Don't exist.
Ermmm no it wont. As it stands if a person never wants to encounter a Klingon player character they can avoid them entirely.
