I miss my Intrepid Class ship

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I am just not a fan of any of the Tier 5 Science ships. I really miss my Intrepid class, but as I would loose two officer ability stations, I do not want to switch out from my Tier 5. I wish they had saved the popular Tier 4's, like Galaxy, Intrepid, Defiant, as Tier 5 options.

Thoughts?

It really would be nice to have ships upgradable.

Really... I think Reconnaissance Science Vessel's should be switched with Long Range Science Vessel's.

Just swapped. The Reconnaissance Science Vessel's look like Tier 1 Cruisers. Really, really, bad looking.

Actually, though it may be changed now, the tool-tip used to be exactly that - they were reversed. I bought both of those ships hoping one would make me happy...but neither did. This game doesn't really lend itself to the explorer or scientist. Science abilities are okay but they are so easily over-shadowed in this game by the preoccupation with blowing things up.

Even the Research Science Vessel's look better than the Reconnaissance Science Vessel's.

Reconnaissance Science Vessel's should be Tier 2 or 3. They are just so plain looking...

Long Range Science Vessel's should be Tier 5 along with the Deep Space Science Vessel's.

I know what you mean. I looked forward to finally getting my Defiant class and enjoyed it immensely. Then poof! I was Rear Admiral and gaining the extra stations with the tier 5 escort made it hard to stick with my beloved U.S.S. Athena.

You should be able to spend merit points to upgrade lower tier ships. I don't know why this would be a problem as it would only amount to a cosmetic issue. Its not like you can sell ships or anything.

Gotta throw in with this lot. Back before Beta I asked--begged and pleaded, really--that older ships not become 'junk' as you increased in level. And while I never got a dev response all the forum posters at that time told me not to worry.

Now I have nothing to look forward to past Captain. Makes me rather 'miffed'.

I miss my old ships too :(. I think all ships should reflect the users rank when obtained from vendor and or lvl as the player dose for more diversity.

Wouldn't be such an issue if we could buy or upgrade bridge officer stations. I'd like to have the option to have more than 4-5. It would add customization, and there could be an overall limit to how many stations you could have by ship and what ranks they could be. So more ensign stations or you can trade them to have fewer stations but the ones you have will be for higher ranked Boffs. If that makes sense to you guys.

I wish they would scale it with rank and not by ship. So you would have admiral slots but could use a lower tier ship.

I miss my other ships :(

No, unless the plan is to delete all models except the original Constitution. Otherwise, upgrade your character to a T5 ship.

Maybe I'm just tired from the day but I can't seem to wrap my mind around this argument. What is your point exactly?

In which case we have the same problem of everyone using the same ship and looking exactly the same. Klingons have it worse than the Feds in this case because of their limited customization options so all of their ships are the same. On the Federation side at RA 5 you only see Star Cruisers, Assault Cruisers, etc. Even with a few cosmetic options to change the appearance slightly, it's still the same general shape as all the other ships in that type.

For me I love the Galaxy Class, and would love to get her back as my main ship, but I can't do that because of the difference between T4 and T5. I can't compete in pvp at my level in a Galaxy and I can't get through the RA 5 content there is right now in anything less than a T5 ship. But It gets boring seeing the same T5 ships all the time. Add that adding a Admirals choice does to the game is give more variety to the game. A cruiser is a cruiser is a cruiser, regardless of what tier it is. They all play basically the same, they're tanks. You know this just by looking at them. There is no real reason why the refit option shouldn't be in game.

PvE, even at RA5 is still super easy mode in a tier 4 ship. Those two "loose" officer abilities are frankly overkill. Seriously, stick with your Intrepid. Short of PvP, unless you're the absolute worst captain in the galaxy, you'll never notice the difference.

I'm not a fan of the T5 science vessels either... honestly, the DSV is a sort of anti-climax. Looks like a big shoe with warp nacelles glued on. At least the RSV can be configured into something like an uglier sister of the Miranda class. ^^
Comforts me a little though that the other T5 archetypes don't look better. And my slightly malformed giant Miranda is not called 'Dervish'. :P

    Here's the newest thread!!!

You see, there's been a lot of threads about refitting lower tier ships so you can use them at Admiral. Be it in a purely cosmetic way, or by upgrading the old ships.

Keep the refit option bumped. Tell devs in feedback. You can make it happen.

Everyone I have talked to about this would love it. Much more than a death penalty, extra races, etc. We just need to get unified in one voice.

I agree... if you like your Olympic-class you should be able to have it from the point you get it to the end. I think upgrading ships is something that should deffently be looked into.

So, people are saying they want their lower tier vessels with all the B.Off's, and bells and whistles of the tier five classes. Yes?

there are several threads on this. I agree with all of them. I, too, miss my capt. sci ship. my recon sci ship just looks like TRIBBLE, no matter what i do with it.

dunno how the game made it to release without some kind of "admirals perogative refit option" in the game.. I suppose time constraints really like everything else but surely they didn't spend 2 years on the game and this NOT come up during discussions...

can only hope this is high on their to-do list.
while I do love my T5 Advanced Escort which is a mix between the phoenix/prometheus/and the other one whatever it's called, I gotta say I prefer some of other lower tier class ships to their T5 variants.

I actually like the T5 science ships but the cruisers I just hate.

It would create more of a diversity between ships at RA. I see no reason not to. It give people more options and make for a more interesting experience in Gamma Orionis. I dont know how many duplicates of my ship I fly past everyday on my way to B'Tran. No matter the design or the color of the hull. I still feel like a carbon copy. Yes The Enterprise D looked just like any other Galaxy Class, so did the Enterprise 1701. But they always stood out somehow. Different from the rest. While I expect to see people in the same ship as me. It be nice to see more variety. The Valiant Class is not old at all. Its one of the latest ship designs. So is the Discovery. And if we look at the movies and shows, ships long past their time like the Miranda was still engaging Dominion Ships almost a 100 years after that design of ship had been commissioned. It makes no sense to exclude them from EndGame.

Sure you can fly a Defiant at EndGame if you want. But it doesnt have the perks of any of the T5 ships. Personally I wouldnt give up my....Gryphon Hybrid. But I can sympathize with people wanting to bring a ship design they enjoy the most to the Endgame. Even if its a Connie. I dont know why a Connie would still be out there fighting when it comes to canon. But I do know why its in game. And I do know people fell in love with that ship design. They paid for it, they should be able to enjoy it.

People might disgree, but they can use the Merit system to Upgrade these ships. 15-20k sounds reasonable to me.

I'm at RA5 and I still roll around in my Defiant, its actually pretty funny running around Borg space and being the only T4 ship within a hundred light years.

Aside from being a little squishier, I dont have much of an issue, and considering I am a tactical escort, I have to choose my battles wisely as to avoid being the object of a couple of Tactical Cubes affection.

But I do agree, it would be nice to upgrade your favourite vessels as a t5 ship, but the argument can be made by some that you can still technically fly your T4 ship around with decent odds of survivability, the only thing that would really be missing that would make a big difference are the Boff slots.

    My .50 cents :)

They probably got the original Conny with their collector's edition and the refit is the version in the game.

I really think when you reach the next tier you should have the option to refit your old ship up to next tier specs or get a new ship free. That way I could take my Constitution class all the way up to Admiral level and if I wanted any other ship I could use ECs.

    I completely agree.

I think there should be a "retrofit" option that cost the same as a new ship, so you can fly around with your favorite ship and have the benefits.. or most of the benefits of the new tier.

    Please Cryptic!

Per tier. So getting a Connie to tier 5 would cost 100k. I wouldn't mind paying 100k to upgrade my connie to tier 5 equivalent. And the cost would keep them from being too common.

I don't think 100k would be enough to do that because that isn't hard to get with a few PVP sessions at tier 5 combat.

I agree. Am a fan of the Intrepid class. Think they need to give us the option to upgrade whatever ship we aquire and want to keep. I would stick with Intrepid. Can't be that big a deal.

How many times during the course of TOS did Kirk and crew change ships?
How many times during the course of TNG did Picard and crew change ships?
How many times during the course of DS9 did the Sisko and crew change space stations?
How many times during the course of Voyager did Janeway and crew change ships?
How many times during the course of Enterprise did Archer and crew change ships?

    Now. The big question.

How many times during the course of STO will YOUR captain and crew change ships?

Ah, but what about in the movies? How many times in the movies did the captain and crew change ships?

Kirk captained the 1701 Constitution Class (refit) and the 1701-A Constitution class (refit).
Picard captained the 1701-D Galaxy class Enterprise and, after it was destroyed, the 1701-E Sovereign class Enterprise.

(Yes, Picard was captain of the Stargazer (for 22 years!) prior to TNG. So that's three ship (class) changes for Picard.)

So... that sure is a LOT of ship changing.

Anyway. Yes. I am on the side of 'let us upgrade whatever starship class we prefer' for use at RA rank. The upgrade (making it the equivalent of a T5 ship) can be explained as being representative of the Captain's extensive experience with a ship of that class. I must admit, however, I'm not exactly hating my science captain's T5 Reconnaissance Science Vessel. My engineering captain's T3 4-nacelle cruise ship, however... ugh.

Erm Janeway couldn't change her ship... but I see what you mean!

Wasn't there back in the early day a question put to Cryptic about using lower tier ships? Now this is from memory, but wasn't there an intention for you to be able to use different tier ships.

Now maybe I'm getting it confused with there being a need to balance classes, rather than tiers?
