Bug with stats?

So I don't have the best gear for my ship but I manage to do ok. On Saturday, however, the stats on my ship's gear dropped dramatically. By Sunday, it was back to normal.

I was a Cmdr 10 in a Cruiser ship. I had Phasers/Plasma beams that did ~127 DPS. On Saturday, that dropped to 67.

I also had high cap shields that were ~6600. Dropped to 2300.

I was a little miffed but didn't think much of it and continued playing. Sunday, I hit Cap 1, got my Galaxy class ship and began transferring over the good gear. Before I removed anything from my old ship, I noticed it was back to normal stats again.

Anyone else see this?

Did you by any chance purchase a Runabout or other lower-level ship?

    Yes I did...... I bought a Runabout.

    Does that lower your stats?

Ship items, such as shields and such, are modified based on the ship you are using. A single shield array that gives 5000 shields on a mid-range ship might give a tier 5 ship 7000 shields and a tier 1 Miranda only 3000 or so.

Currently there is a known issue with Runabouts. When you get one, all of your items scale to the Runabout ship, showing what bonuses they would give if equipped onto that ship. That would be fine if it just did that, but it will continue to do so when you switch back to any other ship, until you buy a completely new ship (like you did with your promotion) or delete the Runabout completely.

If I switch to my Runabout NOW (after I already own one) and then switch back, will the stats now switch accordingly or is that part bugged too?

And if so, can I "reset" the stats somehow?

Sounds like a nice bug they've got going here :)

I should add that checking your ships stats (by pressing U) will always display the correct value, it's only the tooltips when you mouse over them that get messed up. They're not actually that weak, the game just thinks it's still for a Runabout.

I'm not entirely sure... from what I know, switching to the Runabout may indeed trigger the display issue again and without a promotion coming up you might have to purchase another high-level ship with credits (or delete the Runabout) to fix the issue this time. I'm not 100% sure on that though. If you can, hop on to the Test Server and try it out there. That way there are no reprocussions if it screws things up.

Yeah, tell me about it. This one has been around for a while now, and I don't think it's high enough of a priority for them to fix right away. Personally I really want them to as well, because if it affects ship purchasing and/or switching like this then I'm hesitant about buying an Intrepid and Defiant once I've already got a Tier 5 Cruiser for fear of having to see lower stats on my items forever.

I will be going onto Tribble and experimenting soon. Thanks for all the info, Tech Dragon.

Just an update with this... preliminary testing on Tribble indicates that you can switch back and forth between the runabout and an upper level ship and have the stats update appropriately. I'll do some more testing later.
