Your captain will remain untouched whether you backup the game files or not. Your captain is stored on cryptics databases, not yours.

However, if you have an external hardrive I would consider copy pasting the files within the pugg (I think) folder in the game directory to the external drive. And when you reinstall the game, copy it back over and replace the new installation ones with old copies.

This will save you gigs worth of redownload to patch game back to present state.

does vista ask you to confirm the in-game STO popups, too?
you must have admin rights to change sectors

You just turn UAC off and Vista runs more programs than XP ever did without pop-ups, including ones that vista haters proclaim do not work on Vista.

And then use your own security programs.

Before you get drastic download and run CCleaner then it,s reg cleaner. That will clear out a lot of your rubbish, then delete any old games/programs you never use and run it again. You will be surprised how much rubbish can slow your computer down.

Why just so you can upgrade to Win 10 or whatever they call it next year. Vista works fine for me and I,ll stick with it until I,m forced to buy a new machine.
