Can't do anything without being disconnected

Yeah, i know, it's a stupid post on the top of a pile of other stupid posts, but im all out of constructive ideas, so I'm putting this here.

I can play the game. I can log in, and fly around whatever sector I happen to be in. But if i try to customize my ship or my outfit, and I take longer than 20 seconds, I start getting "SERVER NOT RESPONDING" messages and I'm eventually disconnected.

Almost every single time i change maps or instances, (say, beaming down to a planet or entering sector space) The game gives me "SEVER NOT RESPONDING" messages and eventually disconnects.

I have a new modem. I run ping tests while playing to make sure my connection isnt just lagging out. I've run the stupid nettest app and dont get any timeouts. I run WoW constantly with no problem. Short of someone unplugging my modem i have NEVER been disconnected from WoW as a result of some phantom "SERVER NOT RESPONDING" problem. I mention this not to say WoW is better, but as evidence that I know my connection and my hardware is FINE.

WTF IS GOING ON

And moreso, are there actually people out there who play this game without constant disconnects? Because if so, I'd like to know what the difference is between us and them so I can copy the hell out of their settings

I have not had serious disconnect issues since the first week of launch and have not had a disconnect period, in my last 5 or 6 play sessions. One thing that I think some people were having issues with was the proxy setting in the launcher. Go to "Options" in the launcher and make sure proxy is set to "none".
