constant disconnect from server

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
hello
I have had this 'game' for almost tow weeks now without being able to play it at all
i have a windows 7 32bit, quad 6600 8800 gtx sli, evga680
i am on a uverse rg3800 2wire
all ports are open, yet the nettest suggested to run just hangs at port 80 after returning a 136msec ping
i can ping the servers from cmd though
with firewall shutdown, antivirus disabled was finally able to get 'patched'
got into character creation then to welcome screen and dc'd
called cryptic ts and used proxies..got to welcome lobby and dc'd
i have done all these steps from reading forums ie "http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?p=2104036#post2104036"
still no luck
disconnected from servr constantly, either as its loading to welcome, or i get to welcome lobby and stay stuck in game then having to exit manually
which now reloads the laucher and cryptic wants to feed me another 2gig patch
heheh the launcher now crashes during this download
what a lovely online experience i am having!
sooo
with almost no help from the cryptic techs except telling me the same thing about ports open i a m a geek looking for some federation fulfillment

there is a problem with 2 wire modems not being able to handle the small packet streams the game uses.

There is some guides on it in milehighscott FAQ thread http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=118737

    thank you for your response
however as i said i have been trying to get this to work for quite a while now
no real help from cryptic even on the phone
I have tried that page you mentioned also...no luck
ok to reiterate..no ports are blocked
Restrict autotuning and or disabled autotuning doesn't work
2wire suggestions all done and that doesn't work..i am hardwired to it in anycase but i followed all the suggestions anyway
running via proxy or not doesn't make a difference
    now i am getting this

    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: Star Trek Online.exe
    Application Version: 2010.3.19.1504

it cracks me up, seems i am not the only one getting this either
    so now what?
    after all the troubleshooting
i still get dc'd either during launch or right in the start of the game

What network adapter are you using and what is driver version and date?

Have installed the latest nForce drivers?

nForce Driver Version: 15.53 WHQL Release Date: 2010.03.15 Operating System: Windows 7 Language: English (U.S.) File Size: 59.4 MB

Do you have any third party security software besides Microsoft Firewall, Security Essentials, or Windows Defender installed? Disabling doesn't always fix the problem with multiple security products installed.

thank you for your responses..sorry for the delay in mine, but i gave up yesterday and oh yeah.. i had to go to work too heheh
    15.53_beta_nforce_win7_32bit installed
doesn't matter if Forceware network access manager in installed or not
still same result dc'd from login server 2-3 seconds from play character screen, well if i get that far
    sometimes it dc's during load
196.21_desktop_win7_winvista_32bit_english_whql for the twin 8800's installed
    no difference
like i said before netest pings once then hangs at port 80 on this particular computer but will run on another

now as to antivirus and firewall
no defender, security essentials, windows firewall
just zone alarm and norton both completely disbled yet not uninstalled
i hesitate to uninstall either f these but i may
it seems that to do so would put me in an awfully difficult and exposed position just to play this game

something kirk wouldn't do ...on second thought he just might

i would like to add that the ticket i put into cryptic remains unanswered since 3/21
i have played a few online games in the past, never any with such difficulty and such poor customer response just mho
i would like to get this working, but now, at this point i am getting to the point of this being really really frustrating
especially nbow that the laucher crashes after the 'not' logging in

Your ISP is dropping your connection. You will need to contact them to find out why.

could you please explain to the simple minded how and why you came to that conclusion?
    thank you

The ping that you are using from a command prompt is using ICMP echo request, the "ping" from nettest appears to be a display of the latency on the TCP connection so a bit different.

If nettest is hanging and you aren't getting time outs reported, there is something local on the PC, router, or modem preventing it or your ISP is blocking the connection.

Combining the problem with nettest and the disconnects you are reporting points to something between the application and the Cryptic server causing the problem.

If you get a packet capture of starting STO through the disconnect we might see what is happening to your connection. Stop the packet capture right after your get the disconnect, that way we can work back from the end to where you lost the connection.
