Im sure you will never lose anything permanently due to dying. That would be hazardous to the health of a new game in my opinion. I think costing a few credits or permanently disabled crew (until you hit a space station to refit and repair) is the most they will go for. The days of hardcore lose everything when you die MMOs are gone.
Well according to the Engineering report
http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=136695
Don't know how many times that the Devs have to post that there will be a Death Penalty..
I mean 2 gaming site interviews with the Game Director Zinc stating the game needs a DP, the Content Update Calandar, various posts on the forums, plus the engineering reports for what is in development.
The queston or Thoughts shouldn't be about whether or not we should have a DP (we are getting one), but what the DP should be since we are going to be getting one.. AKA in development.
So what are the thoughts on what you want the DP to be? How severe? Credit Sink? Ship power / BO abilities? Loot Drops (Computer generated drops not from player inventory or loot drops from player inventory)? Respawning back at SOL station? Mission resets?
Like that?
Whatever it is it better be temporary in my opinion.
Yes, i think that is what we ALL want
My thoughts exactly. I think the strongest opposition to a death penalty came about immediately *after* Infected went live. I know for a fact I won't be beating my head against that brick wall again, especially if they add a DP that cannot be cycled on/off or w/e.
Seriously, just counting the number of times I died in the Raidisode, I'm good for deleting my character if they add a penalty. If the death penalty is in, the raidisodes are out.
it will probably be something like your weapons get weaker the more times you die so you need to repair at a starbase to go back to peak efficiency or maybe just repair over time.
what ever it is it wont be a harsh one
I think you have there the solution to the death penalty issue, lol
What should the DP be?
I have made Corpse Runs in EQ, GOD I hate Kithcor Forest, and have been TRIBBLE by Aion's PvE DP; die loose xp, would not be recovered, and have reduced abilities till a timer expires or you visit a Soul Healer and pay a fortune (most I payed 750K for 6 deaths in one night as a lvl 30) to regain most of the xp and removal of the timer and full abilities. Aions PvP DP was not so bad; die loose AP (Abyss Points) and Rank, pay a Soul Healer 1 coin, but the AP and rank were gone for ever. So I have had both extremes short of player corpse looting.
If we have to have a DP in STO, lets make it attached to that "Difficulty Slider" and some where on that slider the DP comes into play. Now what should the DP be, I do not know. I could probably live with a return to space dock for repair and refit with modest cost in merits and or credits, however not that dam sliding scale from Aion. But there should also be an in the field repair and refit option, maybe an Engineer special skill. This way play could continue and then at the end of the session you return to space dock for full service repair and refit. A lot like the way the Navy does it now.
If then I see a lot of unhappy people, being killed in out of hand situation.
Imagine PvP being ganked with zilch chance to retailate you will get DP and being easier pray for enemy, lol.
I am sure DP would not apply to PVP.
I can't remember the last time I died in Infected . . .
I dont think that would go over very well to be honest and would cause a lot of people to not pvp at all. I dont think they need DP in PVP because you dont want to die in PVP already. In PVE why not just go in guns blazing 0 power and kill 1 ship die come back kill another until they are all dead. In PVP why would you willing die?
It says "Death Penalty Solution". Semantically this is not precisely a death penalty. we will just have to wiat and see what is exactly meant by this phrase.
So here's the next solution to the Death Penalty : Stay in Sol, for ever.
Because Deep space encounters are the worst. You're drawn in, no choice, and as the map loads you get fired at by the mobs camping at the arrival/respawn area.
Sometimes your ship blows up before the map is even fully loaded, so you respawn, and you're back in the middle of the mobs... experiencing deja-vu from your past life.
DP is needed so is the slider, This game is total carebear
