Hello

Was just looking at the calandar on: http://www.startrekonline.com/calendar

Is it me? or does the Releasing in april section say::

RELEASING IN APRIL
Difficulty Slider
Death Penalty Solution
Space Autofire Enhancement
Memory Alpha Enhancement
STF: Khitomer Accord
STF: Undine Terradome

Could this mean we WILL be getting a death penalty? share your views in the thread

I believe so even though I do not know exactly what the DP will be. I know they need one. There needs to be some reason not to die. If there is no reason then why bother with tactics? Just fly in and if you die wait respawn and go back. If it cost you money everytime you die (ingame money) then people would think twice about that type of strategy.

i believe they have made it clear they were going to push ahead with this despite strong opposition.

I think it means a percentage of your crew will actually 'die' when you explode and you have to get to spacedock with YoH damage before you will be able to play at peak performance again. If so that would be realistic enough and not as annoying as loosing a percentage of your energy credits or items.

I used to want a death penalty. but after seeing how ridiculous the STF's are, I don't anymore.

I just hope it is not TOO harsh, as long as we do not permantly lose officers or something then im ok

I think you'll lose the abilities of a random BOff until a cooldown period (probably 10 mins) in which your BOff is 'incapacitiated' requiring a visit to sickbay or something like that.

Im sure you will never lose anything permanently due to dying. That would be hazardous to the health of a new game in my opinion. I think costing a few credits or permanently disabled crew (until you hit a space station to refit and repair) is the most they will go for. The days of hardcore lose everything when you die MMOs are gone.

My view? Outdated game mechanics are not fun.

a ooldown time on abilities is fine by me, as long as there are no long-term repurcussions

Well according to the Engineering report

    http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=136695
    In Development
    • Difficulty Slider
    • Death Penalty
    • Full Autofire in Space

Don't know how many times that the Devs have to post that there will be a Death Penalty..

I mean 2 gaming site interviews with the Game Director Zinc stating the game needs a DP, the Content Update Calandar, various posts on the forums, plus the engineering reports for what is in development.

The queston or Thoughts shouldn't be about whether or not we should have a DP (we are getting one), but what the DP should be since we are going to be getting one.. AKA in development.

So what are the thoughts on what you want the DP to be? How severe? Credit Sink? Ship power / BO abilities? Loot Drops (Computer generated drops not from player inventory or loot drops from player inventory)? Respawning back at SOL station? Mission resets?

Whatever it is it better be temporary in my opinion.

My thoughts exactly. I think the strongest opposition to a death penalty came about immediately *after* Infected went live. I know for a fact I won't be beating my head against that brick wall again, especially if they add a DP that cannot be cycled on/off or w/e.

Fair opinions guys, turning out to be a good chat/debate lol, at least now people might actually use tactics

Hmm I dunno, it says "Death Penalty Solution". The solution might be not to implement a Death Penalty. ;)

Seriously, just counting the number of times I died in the Raidisode, I'm good for deleting my character if they add a penalty. If the death penalty is in, the raidisodes are out.

Fair point, but that is why i am saying it must be temporary and not too down-grading

im pretty sure they have said that people wont lose anything like credits or ranks or anything like that

it will probably be something like your weapons get weaker the more times you die so you need to repair at a starbase to go back to peak efficiency or maybe just repair over time.

what ever it is it wont be a harsh one

I do not want or need a DP, but a DP is coming....

    What should the DP be?

I have made Corpse Runs in EQ, GOD I hate Kithcor Forest, and have been TRIBBLE by Aion's PvE DP; die loose xp, would not be recovered, and have reduced abilities till a timer expires or you visit a Soul Healer and pay a fortune (most I payed 750K for 6 deaths in one night as a lvl 30) to regain most of the xp and removal of the timer and full abilities. Aions PvP DP was not so bad; die loose AP (Abyss Points) and Rank, pay a Soul Healer 1 coin, but the AP and rank were gone for ever. So I have had both extremes short of player corpse looting.

If we have to have a DP in STO, lets make it attached to that "Difficulty Slider" and some where on that slider the DP comes into play. Now what should the DP be, I do not know. I could probably live with a return to space dock for repair and refit with modest cost in merits and or credits, however not that dam sliding scale from Aion. But there should also be an in the field repair and refit option, maybe an Engineer special skill. This way play could continue and then at the end of the session you return to space dock for full service repair and refit. A lot like the way the Navy does it now.

Introducing DP in game as it is lead to failure. I can't count numbers when I was thrown in middle enemy group toasted in 2 seconds when I was draw in space encounter. Thats only one point why I must say to DP "NO WAY!"

If then I see a lot of unhappy people, being killed in out of hand situation.

Imagine PvP being ganked with zilch chance to retailate you will get DP and being easier pray for enemy, lol.

I am sure DP would not apply to PVP.

Oh definatly i would not like a pvp DP, if say a noob (me) came in they would be killed each time, or if there is then limit the Way the PVP limit is applied e.g. DP only if u were killed by someone same level or below

I dont think that would go over very well to be honest and would cause a lot of people to not pvp at all. I dont think they need DP in PVP because you dont want to die in PVP already. In PVE why not just go in guns blazing 0 power and kill 1 ship die come back kill another until they are all dead. In PVP why would you willing die?

I think someone else stated this here in some term or another but...

It says "Death Penalty Solution". Semantically this is not precisely a death penalty. we will just have to wiat and see what is exactly meant by this phrase.

Oh my, I forgot about those.
So here's the next solution to the Death Penalty : Stay in Sol, for ever.

Because Deep space encounters are the worst. You're drawn in, no choice, and as the map loads you get fired at by the mobs camping at the arrival/respawn area.

Sometimes your ship blows up before the map is even fully loaded, so you respawn, and you're back in the middle of the mobs... experiencing deja-vu from your past life.
