Im running an Engineer, and I intend on running him in Sci ships as I hear they get the best shield bonuses.
Is there a link to any good breakdowns on whats the best type of shield to run? I know of one (one breakdown), but its for Escorts, so I figured it would be different here as Im flying a different ship class an all.
I imagine the "best" shield is just whatever your missions ususually run into. If you're fighting Klingons, for example, something with some Disruptor reduction is nice.
I'm not sure myself though, it just "feels" right.
Also, is there any Science module that increases Science Team's ability?
Cause otherwise, Im looking at running 2x Graviton Generators cause im running 1 sci officer with a Trac beam and 1 with science team
Im kind of looking to run my engineer as a more or less shield tank. Sci ship for extra shields, Engineer for rotate shield frequency, Engineer BO for Emergency power to shiends, and sci BO for Sci team. A field emitter Engineering device
I found this but its under the Escort field manual, dunno if this still applies to Science / cruise or not:
Shield Theory
At lower tiers a Regenerative or Resilient work rather well, but a Covariant may still be better. Higher tiers near Captain and above the burst damage spawns can do makes Covariant or Resilient a better choice.
In PvP Covariant or Resilient win out over all other shields with a strong leaning towards Covariant as a clear winner.
Shield Power Setting (Every point of power above 25 gives you 4% of listed shield regen)
Regenerative (Low Capacity/High Regen/10% Bleedthrough)
Works better with higher shield energy setting. Can be used to great effect with high-dps enemies, but so can Covariant.
Resistance (Avg Capacity/Med Regen/5% Resistance and Bleedthrough)
Getting one of these with a [Cap] bonus is a nice alternative to Covariant. Really nice in PvP.
Covariant (High Capacity/Low Regen/10% Bleedthrough)
Works well with no power in shields. Science Team, Emergency Power to Shields, and even Reverse Shield Polarity all work well with this shield.
Yeah, it's an induction stabilizer you want to boost science team (increases transfer shield strength too if you take that).
The thing to think about with shields, it's less about what ship you are in and more about what power levels you are using. The exception is that I think escorts should always be using covariants. Putting their power levels to full shields to try to regen their own shields is kind of pointless, and they should have the highest capacity possible so that the shield-healing used on them gets the most effect. If I was flying an escort, my "defense" preset would be based on full engine power.
For a science ship or a cruiser, it depends more on how you are playing. I know science ships get a huge bonus to shield capacity, but does the regen of the shield scale up equally?

Resilient Shields reduce the amount of damage that bleeds through shields to the hull. Sooooo...
But it depends on your playstyle and preferences, of course. There is no right answer. All the shield types have pros and cons.

No. Collimator consoles boost Deflector Dish.
That's not the same as Deflector Field. They are two different attributes. Science Team is buffed by Deflector Field.
So you want Induction Stabilizer consoles.
