Replay value

Hey guys,

imho STO has no replay value at the moment. There are no different "quest zones", there is no need to specialize for pvp or pve content, no different crafting paths, so there is no need to replay STO.

What we need is species-based content (lvl.1-20), to make every species interesting. And/or we need different specialized crafting options or the need to focus a char for pvp.

You can`t win the content-fight without making the players replay STO.

Thx.

Well, we are meant to be getting 2 more major content updates before the end of the year (in addition I'm sure to smaller, more regular additions and content updatesa dn more STFs on the way) so have patience.

I'm actually leveling another Fed right now and whilst the episode missions are the same, the gameplay itself (I'm playing science/science after playing engineer/escort) is very different and so I'm having a good time.

After that I'll level a Klink and gear up my engineer/escort for STFs. By that time we should be nearish to June and hopefully won't be long to wait for the major update we are supposed to get around this time.

Replaying this game through for a second time would require one thing.........That you love the first time soooo much you want to do it again. I wont knock anyone who says thats them.

But for me this is the first MMO where I can't run at least one ALT character through the levels again.
I hit level cap as a casual player(very casual)waaaay too fast and made myself feel a little ill thinking about running an ALT through the content again.

On rails...overly simplistci....terrible ground combat.........terrible loot table and reward system............................no crafting..................Man, what is there to see the second time around>?

mayor update means nothing more than more species, more pvp-mapes, more items, more perks etc. But nothing really new, like a new crafting system, story based species-content and so on. players actually are running away because playing one or two dailys a day is not enough...and replaying is pointless atm.

I am having a blast. Sorry you don't feel that way. I like the different professions, different ships, and understand the game is only been out less than 2 months. I'll be playing for a long time. :D

Ajac pretty much hit the nail on the head. Sto would have to have to be good.. in order for replay value. I look and show WoW as a perfect example of why you would want alts for the game. There is content at the end of the road. And each quest let alone zone isn't the same. It also isn't repetitive and makes you BORED to the point you want to auto destruct YOURSELF for amusement.

No this reply isn't trolling/spamming/harrassment. It is indeed MY OPINION ON the replay system/debate and indeed does no harm towards anyone, nor puts down their opinions, truths, facts or anything else.

Considering they plan on releasing new mission content both sides I would probably say your wrong on that. Also i dont want species based content. No point in it. federations made up of hundreds of races probably, i would rather they concentrate their efforts on real content for everyone rather than making "Kill X number of Boars" missions like WoW has for racial quests.

Now individual based race ships, i can get behind that..

champions-online mayor updates + cryptic philosophy (quick&dirty) + first sto mayor update

Have you discover anything new substantial? A new game mechanic? Anything like that? It`s just more, more, more...

Species based content won`t harm anyone. If you don`t like it - fine. Play the old races with no species based content. They could use the species based content to tell us something about the past of the species, how it developed spaceships, how their society works, who their epic enemys....anything like that!

No - you can`t say I`m speculating. I have specified three indicating facts in my posts. Some criminals get killed in some countries of the USA for less.

Can you tell me one thing, which could encourage me to believe, that cryptic will act different in the future?!?

LOL, unless you have a crystal ball or some 'inside knowledge' on what is coming you are speculating. Look up the word.

Based on Champions Online and your opinion of Cryptic you may speculate about content in future patches, but you cannot possibly know any facts. So you are s p e c u l a t i n g

Sure it will, there are over 150 member worlds in the federation of planets alone, one must assume that at very least 50 of those are diffrent races (i cant seem to find an actual number on this) so while Cryptic is busy spending all their man hours on level 1-20 content they are pulling developing power from higher level content.

While I would love to see lower level content I would rather see this effort put into more lower level missions that were not race spacific, allowing all players to be able to utilize it.

This sort of thing I could see klingon side. Not federation. after all most of the federation core worlds are kinda snug in the territory with no sort of conflict to them.

Also what would you do with people who rolled "Alien?"

I'm for more low level content, just not this.

Well, This will never be like WoW. If playing as a Start Fleet Officer, you only take missions from Star Fleet or Federation officials. The Alliance and Horde are not as tightly connected as the Feds are, they get there missions from the chain of command, in WoW you are not even military. They could do something simular but it will never be like WoW.

Playing the game for a long time? I feel sorry for you. As of right now I'd rather watch paint dry. As for replay value; a game has to be fun in the FIRST place in order for me to FINISH it, let alone replay it.

Atm there is very little replay value except to try a different BO or ship types. Leveling is quite fast and it just doesn't feel rewarding.

Once you are the top level you have a couple daily's which take 30 min to do. Then you have a Raidisode. The issue is that the Raidisode is ground based. The ground combat in this game is boring and flawed though. There is many great 3rd person shooters on the market. What STO does to the genre is not a step forward but huge steps back. It has execution flaws as well. So in the end you are playing a very poorly done 3rd person shooter and you question why you are playing it.

There in lies the issue for STO. How can you make high end replayble challenges when the game is complety disjointed between space and ground combat? Add in the fact that teams consist of 5 people and fleets people are in have alot more usually. You have a issue serious issue.

I personally don't think it can be solved without overhauling alot of this games mechanics. This is something I don't think Cryptic will do. They seem more interested in dangling a carrot of a new ship skin then actually fixing the things that are holding this game back.

So odly while there is no replay value as such atm, replaying the game is pretty much the only way to play it once you reach the max level. Odd situation.

    Pretty much this.

Part of an MMO's replay value is doing things with friends, lauging at idiots, admiring that really good 'insert class here' player who, legend has it, could beat up chuck norris. etc. The world is just so disjointed, in all aspects, there is no sense of community outside of fleet chat. Repeat encounters are so rare with the way the game is set up it is difficult to cultivate relationships outside of one's fleet. This woudln't be as big of a problem if a person's fleet was more than just a private chat channel. The only reason to group is for Infected, and you don't even need to fill that out to 5 members, which is a problem in itself. Im sure subs will have died off enough in the next month or two to take all that fun server hardware, make a handful of servers and get rid of the open world instancing. It would just be too much work on the software side for Cryptic to consider it though.

Another part of MMO replay value is advancement. There is only one reason to advance in STO- to get the shiny bits before other people. They aren't hard to get, nothing is rare, nothing is a trophy. And even then, if you are running all Captain level gear at 45 you will do 95% as well as the guy next to you decked out in best of the best equip. There is no game mechanic that does so much as urges you to advance, let alone forces you to advance.

Crafting and working an economy is bigger than PvP as far as keeping people entertained. They don't exist in STO.

An entire aspect of the game, ground combat (which also happents to be its only end game content right now) is lame. This isn't even subjective, there isn't a single sane person who likes the current ground combat system. If a major part of the game isn't enjoyed by a majority of the player base, that doesn't help keep people around much. Let alone have them want to roll an alt.

I could go on and on, but in the end its pretty simple. This game does not just have small balance issues and a lack of content due to rushed development (and in general being new). This game is flawed to its core and will take it becoming a new game entirely to be enjoyable in any sort of long term way. This is unlikely to happen.

It is unfortunate really. I would have loved for STO to be a hit, take up the next 2 years of my gaming time and have fond memories when I retire from the game. I haven't loaded the game up in 3 weeks and I don't even think about it.

Maybe Im an exception to the rule.......I grew old watching ST. I also grew old playing with dead snakes and throwing rocks as a kid. I hate to sound like a crusty ole coot, but we' didnt have technology when I was a kid. I have the patience to see this game through. I am constantly finding new things to do even though I reached RA end over end.

My only worry is that the balance wont be there when they implement the death penalty. Other than that, shoot fire amigos I don't get bored easy, I just find something else less monatanous to do. I dig the game, I dig the people playing. And most of all, I look for new ways to blow stuff up. It aint perfect, but what in life is?

    I love Star Trek
I own every Star Trek Game made... ( I think )
    Some are real bad
    Some are real good

Right now, the eye candy is cool, but the content runs dry, the missions are rinse and repeat, I am afraid it is like that for alot of new MMOs.

I wish for alot, but have come to the sad fact that like many others, I will probly end up playing a month out of 3 or 4 just to see the new stuff.

I hate to say this, and dont wish to be blasted, but STO dosent live up to its own hype, its not a bad game, its just not a great game either. I have ground up a few RA5s and am thinking of rolling a engineer....but sadly cant bring myself to run thru the game again either. So I read the forums, look in on tribble, and play something else for now:o

Took the words right out of my mouth, you did.

    On a side note:
While Racial / Archetype / Vessel class storyline missions would be really cool, such content takes time to create. I am willing to continue playing until it arrives.

Three to six months if EVER. By the time they get around to adding new content that ole coot Castogere will be dead. On a side note Insomniacs will no longer have trouble sleeping, all they have to do is log into Star
    Trek Online.

Only a borg drone would think that fun. but don't worry you will be avle to play in a baby doll nightie and fluffy pink slippers rather than you uniform.

Boredom is a word for minds that lack creativity actually it's caused by endless repititon slowly drivng the brain cells to commit suicide rather than facing the same thing for the 3569th time and rocks hadn't been invented when I was a boy.
