Here's a
screen shot of what I believe is gold spamming, I logged off about two hours ago on a new alt and logged back, the same two figures were standing there "scanning"
Thought this might help cryptic with showing the tactics used by the gold spammers.

Hey, they are doing important scientific studies on how many hot-pockets a typical user eats in a given hour...
Ok I posted a GM report about one of them and added that theres loads doing it.
they dont look like they are spamming or maybe it how they are signalling people who have bought already from them.
I love you man............
I see this quite often going through your tutorial. It looks like a bot program. They just sit there and scan over and over and over and over again.
give this man a medel
That's awesome. Wish we could spot them in Starbase 1 and Sirius Sector. They gather user names from zone chat and use them to spam emails and tells.
Probably a macro to avoid the idle logout timer. Kudos on the quick action Cryptic.
Just to clarify, I did not ban them. They had already been silenced by the automated system based on player spam reports.
Think I said somthing to this effect Repic in IRC chat. They was sitting there for hour or so about a month ago.
I'm pretty sure the actual farmers are quite silent. I suspect that by now most of them are just constantly killing Borg in deep space, with ship and player names generated by pressing "random" at character creation.
Really, that's all they need to do. Hit random twice, get out of the tutorial, and hit up the first deepspace encounter, and spam ship kills. Level up until they rank up, then switch areas, and go back to it. Repeat until they hit RA 5. I noticed a guy in sol once, bog-standard alien face, looked like he was still using the standard-issue phaser pistol. At RA 5.
Then, they probably just spamkill in deep space, vendoring everything instantly to their replicator.
Having transferred credits from fed to klink, it's not hard, but the only ways are direct trade, or auction.
(The only person silly enough to buy a TRIBBLE item for 500,000 credits is me, you see. Just pick something that there aren't many of on auction.)
I second the medal motion.
A++++++++++++++
Essentially, anything that the banned person posted appeared to them as a usual post. It was threaded properly and they could see it as part of the forum complete with a legit post number.
The thing was, nobody else saw it. It never appeared anywhere. The regulars never even saw a name as a placeholder saying this person is ignored/banned. They were essentially talking to people that didn't know that they existed anymore.
The main admin finally called it off because they considered it cruel and inhuman punishment.
You decide.
Edit: Love the Zappa avatar. Nice.
Awesome. Thanks. NOW WORK ON KLINGON CONTENT!!!!!!!
