Hello all, well its been 4 days since i joined STO and i am loving it to bits, brilliant game, its a long time since i sat so long playing a game that i get sore all over......LOL.......anyway i have decided that i really need to do a complete format of my PC and get it running in peak condition for STO, so i was wondering can i just copy the whole Cryptic folder onto a dual layer disc so that i dont have to download it all again or is there a specific folder in the cryptic folder that you just copy, it would certainly save me a lot of time.......Thank you for any help.:)

    Hi,

If you copy the entire directory you can use that on your new installation. You'll still need to do a full install of the game from DVD or download on the fresh HD install of Windows because there are registry settings you'll be missing. The most important files you will want from a patched version of STO is the big hogg files.

    So.
    • Backup your Cryptic Studios and sub directories
    • Backup the STO download (or have the STO DVD install ready)
    • Format your drive and install the fresh copy of Windows
    • Install all of the current motherboard chipset, network, sound, and video drivers from the manufacturers websites
    • Install STO in the default c:\users\public directory (Windows Vista and 7 important)
    • Copy your STO backup files to the same directories, replacing with the newer files
