i run the nettest tool and it says that it timed out. all my firewalls are off except for the one in the router. my tracert is good, all below 86ms. tired of not being able to play a game i paid for.
No need to disable any firewalls or antivirus, they just need to be setup properly.
Antivirus and Antspyware - Make sure your antivirus and antispyware programs aren't blocking Star Trek Online.exe nor GameClient.exe from connecting out to the Internet. This can change with game and antivirus/antispyware updates even after you have been playing fine for months.
Firewalls - if you run a software firewall (Zonealarm, Norton, McAfee, etc) or are behind a hardware firewall (Linksys router, CheckPoint, Cisco ASA, etc) make sure Star Trek Online.exe and GameClient.exe are allowed to connect to the Internet and your PC can connect outbound on the ports STO needs.
The game will need outbound TCP 80, 443, and 7000 through 7500 open. Note: All connections are TCP based from your PC to Cryptic so you do not need to port forward on your router.
The Cryptic data center IPs you'll connect to on TCP 7000 - 7500 are 208.95.184.01 through 208.95.187.254. The proxy servers are outside of this range.
Disablign a firewall ensures theres nothing blockign the connection for pure troubleshooting purposes. if they can then gain a connection with it disabled, then they can configure it.
the mail service is down. looks like cryptic is failing all over the place. this is ridiculous, if can't get this t work soon im taking it back, i have better things to do than NOT play a game.
I have a similar Issue. Yesterday i was able to play and enjoy the game. Today after Patching 2gb again and restarting i can login but then the Launcher stays at "connecting" and the Button to start the Game shows "Patch". Servers are Up regarding to the Display.
What the heck is going onhere?
PS: Firewall was deactivated for testing purposes. Nothing changed.
Patching problems or disconnections when using the 2Wire brand modem
* Open a browser and connect to http://gateway.2wire.net
* Go to Home Network and then Wireless Settings
* If you receive a password prompt, enter your 2wire admin password.
* Go to Additional Settings (defaults recommended)
* Look for the Wireless mode 802.11b/g setting
* Change this to 802.11b, removing /g
* Save this change and try STO again
Another item is your client is performing a DNS query for the error tracker.
DNS Standard query A errortracker.crypticstudios.com 91
Do you have any errors in your STO logs that match the date and GMT time stamp of your last attempt to connect? These logs are in the STO installation directory. If you find lines that match the date and time, please post them here.
The last thing I see is the proper close of the TCP 7004 stream and then the DNS query for the error tracker. You aren't moving over to the post launcher sequence that should show up in the capture.
I do not see any requests missing from the server that your client asked for so nothing obvious outside of the PC.
What I'd have to do for any further troubleshooting from my side would be to have remote access to the computer. I've done this with a few others through Microsoft Messenger (Microsoft Live). If this is something you want me to do I can help, otherwise you'll need to find out what is happening locally on your system.
I'd look at what processes are running in task manager, what applications are installed on the PC, what version of IE you are running, clear IE cache, look for any additional log file entries, run a packet capture, run as administrator, etc. Unless there is a specific error log that you find, a hands on look at the PC would be next.

Get a packet capture of your attempt, I have some examples that should help you.

i can ping nettest and the patch server but when i netstat it says LAST_ACK instead of est.
also i have to add that tech support is completely worthless, don't waste your time with them.
You can mail them or send a pm with the info to milehighscott. He'll be able to tell you where the fault lies.
no, home network.
im thinking that it has to do with turning that 7255 port on.
PM sent (perhaps, did get mail service failures the first two times)

Are you using a 2wire router / modem to connect to the internet?
There is a known issue with 2wire if you are using wireless 54Mbps. It's a problem for other online games also.

edit: it was already on B anyway.
