Hiya folks. Was wondering what peoples thoughts are on these two skills as this is the decision that is going to swing whether i make my engineer to be an Alien, or a Joined Trill. So can someone advise me on what the pro's and con's would be to taking one over the other?

Sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere, but i couldn't spot it myself.

All the Efficient trait does is give you +5 to the four Efficiency skills. Those skills govern several different engineering BO powers, as well as giving bonus power to its relevant system if the power level is set at 75 or below (the lower the power setting, the greater the bonus power).

I can't tell you what the Joined Trill skill does as I don't have the ability to be a Joined Trill.

Efficient is being upgraded to a +10 bonus in the coming patch, so it'll be more in-line with the other skill-raising traits. Efficient is going to see a lot more use in a cruiser (due to it improving the effectiveness of a fair number of Engineering abilities, which are primarily on the cruiser), but it has its uses with other ship-classes as well, not to mention the slight power boost it can grant to systems at low settings.

The Joined Trill trait is more of an all-around trait, adding points to energy weapons, engineering training, operations training, and a couple others (I believe projectile weapons and warp core training, +3.3 to most, +6.7 to operations training). It's not as powerful as Techie at boosting Engineering Training or Astrophysicist at boosting Operations Training (both of which are +10), but it boosts all those skills by using a single trait.

Thanks for replying. I found the other thread discusing the alterations for Efficient not too long ago, and its been an interesting read to get my head around what you were talking about there. :)

So, here is what i am planning. I'm gonna be making an engineer with Warp THeorist and Techie. my options as i see it is to go with Alien, and get Efficient and something else to help me out on the ground for when i'm pratting around down there like resilient, or take a joined trill.

Now as i understand Efficient will boost my ship stats by some, but only when their are on lower power settings. Joined Trill will boost many things all the time, is this correct?

Joined Trill will always give those bonuses under all circumstances, but also I don't think you have the ability to take Warp Theorist, Techie, and Efficient, even if you make your own race. Every time I have seen Warp Theorist/Techie, Efficient has not been a choice, and I think vice versa.

In point of fact, my own custom character has all 3 of the above-mentioned traits (Efficient/Techie/Warp Theorist).

So which is better, joined trill or the lifetime borg character?

I had a very breif look at the races that allowed Efficient, and i don't recal seeing techie/warp theorist on them as you said, but as has been said, Alien can have any combination of Accurate, Astrophysicist, Efficient, Elusive, Techie and Warp Theorist. So if you skip the Accurate and Elusive from that list, you can get a whole lot of bonus' going on. It's jsut a shame you cannot switch Efficient for Joined Trill, because that would be awesome sauce :)

My Joined Trill Science Captain has

Joined Trill (+3.3 Energy and projectile weapons, Engineering and Warp Core, +6.7 Operations)
Warp Theorist (+10 Warp Core) +Power Levels
Astrophyisicist (+10 Starship Operations) +Science Abilities
Hyper Metabolism (+33% resist toxic and radiation, +0.1 regen)

If I rolled an Engineer I'd take Techie over Astrophysicist

    I think it's a solid build for a non-tactical captain

Does anyone know where to find the maths that would calculate how much benefit each efficient BO or character is? And how much each point of the efficient skills affect power?
