Anyone else having server problems today? I have been trying to play for hours. After a minute of play, server crashes then when I try to relog is says unable to contact the server (or similar).
I am getting bad rubber banding in space at the moment. Logged in 12 to 18 hrs every day and other than the ground lag shortly after release this is the first time . There is definitely something amiss.
I've given up trying to play today because of the lag. The ship wasn't so much as rubber banding more kind of teleporting around, ground missions were just as bad. Then just when things seemed like they were getting playable i got the server not responding message, wait for 30 sec and then disconnected from server. Try logging back in again and it was the same, tried 4 times and gave up.
The patcher took 20 minutes to decide i was to download the pre patch and after 10 minutes had only downloaded 688kb of 2074 MB.
Not running any other programmes or apps in the background and not having any problems with any other intenet games.
I noticed one of you guys are from the UK (wewt). Has the net been bad all day? I've used two different computers today at different houses and the connection has been terrible, its taken people i have talked to over 10 mins just to load up a web page. It might be a regional problem and nothing to do with the Star Trek Online servers.
Being an IT guy I would suspect they are doing rolling pre-updates on the servers in anticipation of the 45 day patch suspected to go live tomorrow. There not taking down the whole shard, just a few servers at a time, here and there to apply the needed updates on the sly.
no the server was brilliant before they shut down the server between 10 an d midday today I had no problems now im back and wanted to continue and I either cant log in at all or log in and get message server crashed and cant do anything.
Strange devs tell you to post here if your having problems but very rarely comment!

I'm having the exact same issue. After the prepatch it's virtually unplayable. I've not had a single problem since i started playing. Hopefully it'll be sorted asap.

I am from the UK and after ditching the packet careless BT for the 0% loss Orange, I have great connection although my bandwidth is poor because of the line/exchange. Today has been just fine until about 7.45 pm. It really is teleporting from A to B to C to A to D. I tried to find an IP address for the server to plot it but all I can find is a range so I tried the bottom of that range and I am getting decent plots for UK to US but I am not sure if it is the right IP.
For future reference does anyone know of a static IP to trace for STO or how I find out the IP I am connecting to?
i'm with Orange and have only had this problem this evening before this have had very few problems and was really enjoying playing. Now i cant even play

Use "netstat -n" from a command prompt to to identify the specific server and TCP 7xxx port you are connected to.

I am experiencing the same problem but connecting from France, everything was fine then i cant log in past the character screen.
My internet isnt slow in any way and i dont have any probelms connecting to other US online game servers.
Maybe i should stop trying and connect to those haha!
Aaarggghhh Hey ! This is unplayable now. What happened to the talk of PR and what was the word? Oh yes "Transparency" Let's have some transparency then please Cryptic, What is going on?

I'm with orange too, but i don't think it's a problem with them. Everything else works fine for me, it's just sto that i'm having problems with.
Bombed again. Games letting me eventually login but then doesnt load fleet info , journal etc.
Getting well and truley sick of this TRIBBLE tbh. I think there are plenty of mmos out there with far better service and charging same and less. Seriously you arent exactly giving the impression you want people to stay!
Sub cancelled runs till april 4th i think so lets see what happens . But i know i'll get fanboi trolled for this but who cares. Its the only way to make a point to cryptic by using my wallet.

Even the help tickets don't work
Same issue here. Happened the other day and stopped after patch, and now has begun again. Plus, EVERY time I exit the game, it downloads the pre-patch for season 1. I submitted a ticket (my fourth overall) and this is the first time I have not gotten a response.:(
On my 3rd DL for the 2074MB patch and 5th time for the 16MB patch just to log in and get DC after less than a minute, exit the game just for the patches to start up again. I'm getting sick of this.

Are you sure the pre-patch is downloading again. Is it not just checking you have the data? Take note if the % rises at the same slow download rate or if it counts up faster, I have experienced this with pre-patching in other games.
MY TICKET: I submitted a ticket on this a few days ago. I get disconnected from the server about a minute after I log in and begin to play. It seemed a lot of folks were having this issue and after the last patch it went away. Now it seems to be back again. Also, everytime I exit the game, it installs the new 'pre-patch' again. I thought it would just install once.
CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSE: Greetings! Here are some basic steps to check if you are having trouble staying connected to the Servers. 1.)If you are using a wireless connection, disable the wireless 2.)Connection and connect to your router or modem with a network cable and 3.)Confirm that you have internet with a wired connection. 2.) Make sure to close all other programs including programs that run in the system tray (the little icons next to your clock). 4.)If you have a software firewall please make sure it is allowing all 5.)Network traffic (by not blocking any ports) and shut it down and 6.)Make sure it is no longer running. 4.) If you have any software that monitors web/network connections, disable the monitoring and shut them down or uninstall them. Some common programs that block/monitor network traffic are Zone Alarm, Net Nanny, Ad-Aware, Windows Defender, Kaspersky, Snort, Wireshark, Norton products, McAfee products, Eset Nod32, Trend Micro products, Barracuda products, Panda Internet Security, AntiVir, F-Secure, CA Anti-Virus Plus. 5.) Also check for the Nvidia Firewall program, the Google tool bar and Google Desktop and uninstall these programs. 7.)Run the nettest tool 8.)A.) Download the tool by clicking this link and save it to your desktop: http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe 10.)B.) Double click the file and let the program run 11.)C.) If any of the numbers in the third column come back as less than 100 KB/sec then the port listed in the second column are being blocked. Check your network monitoring software again to make sure they have an exception for our game. 7.) Try the Cryptic Proxy: a.) Start the game client b.) Enter your username and password c.) Let the game patch if needed d.) Click on the Options button at the top of the launcher screen and change the Proxy drop down to EU or US e.) Click Play! 8.) Once you find the program or piece of hardware that was blocking communication to our servers, please make the appropriate exceptions with that software/hardware and make sure you enable your Anti virus/Protection software again. Sincerely, Cryptic Studios Technical Support
MY ISSUE: I have been playing the game for the last 30 days without ANY connection issues. That is, until my billing began on March 15th. In that time, I have changed NONE of the settings on my computer what so ever. I run Windows firewall, have Defender disabled and run no other firewall. I have and have had AVAST anti-virus and no other virus or malware program running in the background. I ran the tests you referred me to and have no issues there as well. I am connected by wireless and obviously have internet connection through wireless and wired through the modem.
This is my first On LIne Game experience(I got hooked through my son) and am VERY disappointed. I shouldn't be having these difficulties and am ready to cancel my sub. It's to aggravating.
While I don't want to make any assumptions about your predicament. I would never ever attempt to play any mmo wireless. You may get a stable enough connection and your problems may indeed be nothing to do with anything at your end. The main problem with disconnects and lag in any mmo is packet loss and or latency from a mixture of wireless connection, non prioritising service providers and even having a switch involved in a wired set up.
Advice , .connect direct to your modem/router with a new short cable, use no switches, run a program such as pingplotter to evaluate the state of your isp and routing via hops. When this is done and only then would I query anything else.

Unfortunately, this is not an option. The router is in another room. I have had no problems with it, except the 'rubberbanding' if that is the router. I played fine for 30 days, then my sub kicked in and all this started. I'm not saying it's because of that. I noticed a few others got hit suddenly with the same problem (around the forums) on the same day and thought it might be a patch or something.
The game checks for the pre-patch update when I close out, but it still is downloading the 16MB patch every time I log on and has been for the past two days.
I got a second response to my ticket : Greetings! Some players have reported that auto-tuning can cause network time-out problems. Can you try turning it off if you have experienced such problems. Open up an elevated command prompt 1. Click the Start button, Open the Accessories menu 2. Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator Enter the following command to disable auto-tuning netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled If you found that this doesn't fix your problem, you can turn it back on. 1. Open up an elevated command prompt. 2. Enter the following command to enable auto-tuning netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal - Cryptic Studios Technical Support
I applied that and was finally able to play last night. The server stopped responding once but did not kick me off as it has for the past few days.
Now I need to go back and see what helped. Not sure if it was setting it to EU proxy, disabling AVAST, or the fix from support,
Thanks for the advice. I'll update tonight when I have time to see what fix is working or if it's the combination.
I too am having this disconnect problem. It started 2 days ago at about once an hour and has been getting progressively worse since then to the point where I'm not logged in to the game for less than a minute before I get Dc'ed.
I do not use avast.
I tried running through proxy.
I tried turning off auto-tuning.
Nothing works, I'm still getting Dc'ed within a minute or so or less.
It is not my network connection. I can play other games such as Aion and first person shooters just fine.
This is really frustrating. I just made Admiral last night while DCing every hour. When I started to customize my new Advanced Escort I started getting DC'ed every minute or so. Now I can't even play at all anymore.
OKay.
I put AVAST back on it's default settings.
I put the Proxy back to 'None'.
I left the auto-tuning off.
Game plays without kicking me off.
However, it's lagging a bit...short freezes...and that's a bit more tolerable than getting kicked off.
I also installed Gamebooster from iObit, which on my very humble little PC has made a noticeable difference in performance.
I am going to get a VERY long ethernet cord, and plug directly into the modem and see if that fixes the lags/freezes. If it does, I will have to get the dang modem moved. I hate calling Time Warner and hate it even more when they send one of their guys out here who only knows how to do what they hac=ve shown him and has no knowledge otherwise of what he is messing with. Hopefully, he won't be able to TRIBBLE up moving the dang connection.
I want to thank everyone for their help. If anything changes or this stops working, I'll be back.;)
