forum search broken - and a game question

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
No matter how many search terms I enter into the forum search engine, I always get the error message
The search term you specified (in) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.

If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific.

This is especially annoying because I remember there was a thread with a / command to find out how much time has been spent on the game and didn't want to start a new thread to ask the same thing again.

You cannot use the word "in" in a query, since it is less than 3 letters. A bit awkwardly worded, but the error says it all :-)

So what you're saying is "in is out"

No, "out" is three letters so it is in :p

You'll just have to leave out any words less than three letter long, like "in".

Soo, "in is out" and "out is in", I suppose.

The search engine is pretty horrible - I have never been able to find anything with it. Just use google instead. That one actually works.

(If anybody at Cryptic is bored and feels like improving it, the best thing to do is to scrap the whole thing and replace it with a google custom search box)

Heh, such are the joys of using off-the-shelf technology :-)

COTS is wonderful for many applications, but not all. I quite doubt you'd change software at this late a date, but Cryptic may want to look into SMF instead of vBulletin for future boards, I've found it to be superior on my site.
