Game Crashing

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I just got a new computer recently, and installed STO on it yesterday. After about 30 minutes, my computer shut itself off in the middle of the game, then restarted. Since we had some bad weather last night, I figured that was the problem.

However, I just now was on and after about 15-20 minutes, the game client crashed. It's a Cyberpower PC and specs are as follows:

CPU: Athlon II X4 630(2.8GHz)
RAM: 4GB DDR3 1333
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5670
HDD: 500GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 7200RPM HDD
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)

Here's a link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229172

I'd probably be a little more detailed, but I don't know where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You could have an overheating or power supply issue, but posting up your driver information won't hurt.

    Run dxdiag from Start - Run or from a command prompt. After it has finished running click on Save All Information at the bottom of the screen next to Exit.

    Save the text file to your desktop and then open it up, copy the following four sections and paste to the forum.

    * System Information
    * Display Devices

    Okay, I have some more details. It seems to only happen while on an away mission, during combat. The game will start lagging some, but it doesn't seem like video or server lag. Almost like it's having a hard time reading the game (though there's no disk to read). Eventually, it just crashes. The computer's cool to the touch, so I don't think it's overheating.

    Have you tried as suggested in other threads for ATI cards? In the game video options turn Dynamic Lighting off and also Turn off or turn way down Shadows.

    Dynamic Lighting = crashing
    Shadows = stuttering/lag on
    Both the above occur on Ground missions. Also lag sometimes in very heavy space nebulae/gaseous systems.

    In space I'm not really having any lag issues. I have shut off dynamic lighting, but I'll also try reducing or turning off shadows next time I'm in-game.
