I understand obviously how Free For all works, how round robin works and the need or greed part but I don't know what the hell the other settings do, Master looter??? etc
With Master Looter one person gets to see all the loot and assign it to individual group members. Most MMOs have a /roll system random number generator so you can roll on loot for this. It's basaically so that no-one rolls for items that are inappropriate for their class or unique items thay already have.
The one you didn't mention is Need/Greed/Pass which is supposed to be for if you need the item to use yourself on that PC you hit Need, if you want it just to sell or for an alt you hit Greed and if you're not interested you hit Pass.
Both of these only work in trusted groups so, you're better off with Round Robin for PUGs.
I am the leader of a fleet, and would like to use the master looter option, but the problem is that there seems to be no /roll option, so if two out of five dont need it the last three cant have a way to decide the last who should get it. Even though there is only 5 people i think there should be a /roll so u can generate a random number out of 100 and see who wins. need or greed would work in most situations if we didnt pug someone or if i had 100% confidence in someone to not need if they didnt need an item at the end of Instance. Ive learned that even if they are in ur guild/fleet not everyone can be trusted not to be a loot *****.
If there is a way to generate a random number in chat then plz tell me, i searched the forums forever for an answer to this question.
thanks much
Set your default to Master Looter and just play the game. When STO decides to add random people to your party, you will get all the loot. If they don't like it they can leave.

;rolldice (or something like that) is one of the new emotes coming in the patch, it's on the test shard at the moment.
type ;rolldice and it says something like 'Noodz rolls a 57'

how about setting it to round robin (the only fair option for random group) and turning auto-grouping off.
I personally put all people that group with me that have masterloot set, on my ignore list.
Round-Robin works the best for people you do not know
Need Before Greed is for people that know and trust each other
Master loot is for when there is a definate benevolent leader,
Free for all is for groups that work together, (closest person grabs, then settle later)

Actually as the Master Looter you should make the decision. If two players need a item then flip a coin or alternate between the two. If your group trusts you enough to be the Master Looter then they should not have a problem with your fairness.

i would advsie against it unless your in a fleet group so the leader can give the loot to the right people themselves
