Cannot play STO. Both Servers

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
OK This is really a problem......
I signed up for the test server so I could help out in making STO a better game and now I cannot play the game at all....
When I try to play in the "Holodeck" server the game plays fine for about 5 minutes and then starts doing a really bad studder. It is like playing with a filp book and flipping the pages very slowly. move .. stop .. move .. stop ... I already sent as bug report, but when I signed in the second time it seemed to be working so I closed the ticket ... guess what happened 5 minutes after closing the ticket ....

no really ..... guess ....

that's right, i'm looking at a game that looks like something from years ago....

OK .... I figure that's OK, I'll just go over to the "Tribble" server and work on finding bugs, like I've been doing since November is the closed beta.
I go to start the "Tribble" shard and .... CRASH .. the app crashes and pops-up the bug reporting box. This just keeps on happening...

Despite all of the issues I have stood behind everyone that has been working to make this game better. The developers have been doing a great job considering this game is a very difficult game to create and run. I also happen to be one of the people who think this game needed alot more work before it was released and got ignored. Through all of this everything was OK because despite all of the flaws, I just love playing this game and was looking forward to playing it for a long time. But now I can't even play the game ......

I've sent in the bug reports, but what do I do now since I cannot play the game???

I joke around a little but this is really bad, I am unable to play this game at all, so want am I suppose to do????
I'm a lifetime subscriber so it isn't like missing this time is going to cost me anything, but what if this is happening to others that aren't lifers??

OK Enough of the ranting, thanks for letting me vent, but on the serious side please get this fixed so I can play ..... Thanks!

If you are wanting to get some peer support post up your detailed information.

Run dxdiag from Start - Run or from a command prompt. After it has finished running click on Save All Information at the bottom of the screen next to Exit.

Save the text file to your desktop and then open it up, copy the following four sections and paste to the forum.

Everything was working great before the patch and the "Tribble" sign-up....

As a lifer this is realy p'ing off.
I play for 5 to 10 minutes with no problems and then it goes into picture mode. It looks like time lapse photography in slow motion...

    Thanks

    PS,

I don't just sit here waiting for a reply, I would just like to get this fixed ... If I need to re-install let me know...

I would also like to hear for Cryptic, I think they should be answering when a customer is saying they can't play the game...

    Thanks

and here is my graphic card information from NVIDIA, I've just copied the needed information.

    NVIDIA Driver Downloads

Product Current: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS
    Installed Driver: 196.21
    Latest Driver: 196.21
Update: Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time.

Your graphics card memory is quite low, make sure your resolution isn't too high, antialiasing options aren't on or forced on, and your antiscopic filtering isn't on either, as well as any texture quality really, or high detailed models.

Though I'd assume you've tried running everything as low as you can and it still crashes?

The 8400GS was one of the least expensive cards when I was at the store the other day, I'm not sure if it's even support for this game.

Noticed you also have a very low end CPU on top of this.

There were no problems with my card from November until last week. I go to play after this lastest patch and now it doesn't work....

I'm not the only one having this problem, others are and have posted in the Graphic Support forum.
They changed something and now my frame rate is too slow. I want to play the game the way I have since Closed Beta, I shouldn't have to lower my graphics, they should fix whatever they broke!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_8_Series
    GeForce 8300 and 8400 Series

In the summer of 2007, NVIDIA released the entry level GeForce 8300 and 8400 series of graphics cards. Both series are based on the G86 core and as of December 2007, both series only have a GS version. The GeForce 8300 is also only available in the OEM market, and thus cannot be found in retail outlets. These graphics cards are targeted mainly for those who just need a discrete graphics solution, as the video card performs poorly in intense 3D applications such as high-end video games. It was originally designed to replace the 7200 and 7300 models, but was incapable of doing so due to its poor performance in high-end video games. It's able to play modern games at playable framerates at low settings and low resolutions making it popular among casual gamers and HTPC (Media Center) builders without a PCI Express or AGP motherboard.

At the end of 2007, NVIDIA released a new GeForce 8400 GS based on the G98 (D8M) chip.[8] It is quite different from the G86 used for the "first" 8400 GS, as the G98 features VC-1 and MPEG2 video decoding completely in hardware, lower power consumption, lowered 3D-performance and a smaller fabrication process. The G98 also features dual-link DVI support and PCI Express 2.0. G86 and G98 cards are both sold as "8400 GS", the difference can only be told from technical specifications.

You could buy a pretty good graphics card for $300, sure not an agp one but still. If you're sure nothing's changed in sto's nor nvidia's settings, there are other things you can try. Alas remote diagnostics is too much of a time consuming process to bother with so less you're willing to ship your comp, I'm giving up here. Though do make sure none of the settings have changed, especially with the Nvidia control panel as those can ocassionally reset upon update.

Thanks for your answers but you are missing the point....

EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL AFTER THE LAST PATCH!!!!!

I have played this game since November and have not had a problem until the lastest patch, If I haven't had a problem until now THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY GRAPHICS CARD!!

If there was a problem with anything on my computer I would not have been able to play since November.

Please I'm glad for the help, but if all you are going to do is criticize my computer please don't post. Thanks!

First this is a peer to peer support forum. If you want technical help from cryptic you need to open a support ticket.

Second games chagnes with each patch , new feature new texture files ect. what may work on a bare minimum system may no longer work later in the games life. Systems minimum specs for a game is just that the minimum that will allow the game to run. not neccessary means it will run well.
