Pakled BOffs.

The next huge patch coming up is adding Pakleds as BOffs a bit... strange?

The race from what I know of is basically very limited by means of intelligence. I mean the guys float around space scavanging for things, 'things that make us go'.

Would a Pakled really get through Starfleet Academy?

They go through the remedial courses. And there are quotas.

Yeah this is very interesting. I wonder if the devs are going to explain this one when the update comes out - some kind of explanation of the species next to it when you can select it. I think I remember that there is a brief species explanation when you select your species - but these are only Boff selectable, right? It would be a shame if they are simply thrown in there and we're left to scratch our heads......

I guess it could be explained by genetic manipulation - some kind of illegal, bio-engineered genetic virus that was purposefully spread throughout all Pakleds........

I think it would have been better if there were other species in line before this one - how about a Founder Boff? Or maybe Xindi? Android (not necessarily Soongian)? How about that really cool species that Picard is stranded with on that planet that only communicate through relating meaning to well-known stories (you know....."at Tanagra, when the walls fell.")? Although one would hope that the universal translator is doing better than that by now......:D

I don't think they are stupid just too intellectually lazy to research new tech.

Hahahaha, yeah that's why I said I hope the universal translator is doing better with that species by 2409. It would get complicated if not.
Although if the Pakled haven't had genetic manipulation to get smarter, they might be a bit like Brick from "Anchorman." You'd find yourself in a confrontation with a bunch of Klingons, who would insult you with something like: "I once mistook your mother for my pet Targ." And then you'd find your Pakled Boff standing on the Klingon side, laughing with them, saying: "Hahaha, he said a funny word!"

Seriously, y'all - I hope there's a little "introduction" for the new species. Kinda like how we know that a lot of that one species (I'm sorry, I can't remember the name right now) has had genetic manipulation so they can breathe a carbon dioxide/oxygen atmoshere without that little fog machine that some of them have.

Oh, for the love of... That's it, I'm getting full reviews on everyone that boards my ship in a Starfleet uniform from now on! :|

Picard never had to put up with this TRIBBLE.

(WARNING: This post may be less serious then it looks. Potentially.)

    They're called Banzites.

You're right! He got Nella Daren* instead. Lucky SOB...

*Or Neela Daren, depending who's script you read. Grats Paramount editors.

Just checked the "Common Ground" update page. Seeing as how the new species that are being introduced are also playable by us, there is sure to be a short explanation of the Pakled species. Hopefully the "duh" factor of the Pakleds will be addressed.

These are some species that I would have preferred over Pakleds. They are known Federation members with at least some appearances:

    Peliar
    Zakdorn
    Efrosians

Personally I would have rathered Cardassians but then they are going to be added as another faction so we are lead to believe.

So in knowledge of that I would have put Caitians (im not even a fan of them but the demand for these is higher than pakleds thats for sure!). Id also have said some sort of Android (would be sweet).

There are many other more 'logical' races to have picked that would go through Starfleet Academy than a Pakled. I doubt a Pakled would even find Starfleet let alone know (or even want to) how to enrole.

They emit an aura that makes everything around them dumber.

Kind of like 90% of this forums population.

More than boffs, they're going to be a new playable species along with rigellians and tellarites, IIRC.

Also, they make the perfect scapegoat to explain why Federation can now use Disruptors! The Pakleds wanted to make their ships shoot! And Disruptors are strong!

    ;_;

Then again, the main reason I painted my ships red is because I'm a foxy lady.

Immunity to Confusion and Placate? I can buy that.

Chef Medication Officer and Captain looking over the med scan results of a crew member attacked on an away mission.

CMO: Captain, the Algosian Brain Parasites appear to be weakening and dying.
Captain: That's great Doc.Those parasites are normally fatal. How'd you do it?
CMO: I didn't do anything, Captain.
Captain: How's that? Then why are they weakening?
CMO: The brain parasites don't have enough neural energy to feed on. They are dying of starvation.
Pakled BO: Can I go now? I have to work on the stuff that makes us go fast.
