I've played the game just fine since launch, that is, until about 15 minutes ago.
In the middle of loading a zone, I had a "Cannot Connect To Server" message, than the game shut down. No worries, I'll just fire it up again.
I log in, select my character and the game starts to load. Part of the way through the load process, I get the error: Game Server connection failed. Press the Support button for additional help.
Did that. My game is paid up through April 5th, but, just in case, I put in an actual credit card rather than my debit card. Don't think that was the issue, but, you know, never hurts to look into that simple answer.
I can log into a different character, but my main character seems to be out of luck. This appears to be a server side issue, seeing as I can log into one character, but not another.
The old recommendation was to leave your problem child alt alone until it was kicked back out to sector space if you were entering a mission instance and encountered this. I believe the recommendation was 15 minutes.
Hello, I've now just encountered the same problem, I was in my Heavy Escort Cruiser and crossing into Delta Volanis sector block when my computer "lost connection" then the "Disconnected from server" issue started. I thought maybe I just lost connection however when I logged back in I created another account to see if I was experiencing the same problem. I was able to log in fully as a new Klingon or Federation character but my main guy continues to load half way and "lost server connect" then disconnected from server" error.
same issu but a report of the issue got me a response that at least let me know it's likely a populartion issue:
"We believe that your issue may have been caused by a brief period of server instability. This MMORPG is a living and evolving experience. As such, the Game will continue to change as we implement and polish new features, which are a key in the continuing development of a dynamic play environment. Additionally, we are actively tracking these occurrences in order to resolve and prevent future problems associated with connectivity. If you continue to experience connectivity issues, and you haven't done so already, please contact our Tech Support department regarding this issue. For common FAQs, and how to contact our Technical Support please go to:(http://www.startrekonline.com/support). We greatly appreciate you taking the time to report this issue."
Hats off to Cryptic honestly for giving us a likely issue immediately so we don't beat our heads against the wall trying to check our settings etc.
I too am having this problem. It seemed to start yesterday for me. However, I was able to log my character back in yesterday and now I can not. I was trying to access DS9. Not sure if there is a time limit set for a base or not, hopefully there is. Any help or information from a Dev on this matter would be great.
My main character will not load as well. My Klingon character will. I get 'Server not responding' during the load stage after character selection. Than I get disconnected from server. Given the amount of time invested and the progress/stat based nature of the game it is distressing. I'm very patient with gameplay bugs, and dont expect a game of this type to be perfect. But I do expect to able to at least access it to play. Waiting 15 mins did not help FYI; i have let it go since yesterday night (15th) when i started getting this error.

Kicked from server try to login and get a trying to update launcher for 3-4 minutes very slow response , kicked back to login, try again this time get stuck on loading map. Next attempt let me in fairly quickly but was unable to do anything at all in game flashing server not responding messages couldn't get any windows to open. Ships on screen moving very slowly and jerking . Come to forums they also loading very slowly Tab back to game to an open window which wont now close .
Nothing working without 2-3 minute lag but not disconnecting, try flying across a sector only to rubber band back to starting point every 20 seconds.

I'm on Virgin Media and have been having major problems too. I have just connected via the proxy in the launcher options and all is working great now if that is any help.
No proxy set and it looks like it might be returning to normal - forum speeds are normal and login looks normal now, must have been a cross channel service 'blip'
It's not just the UK. I live in the US and I am having the problem. I highly doubt it's to do with providers as much as it is Cryptic's servers. Especially since I can play other MMO's with no problem.
No, not real time - but if you look on the graphs, it does actually say for europe - 5pm ish time frame. Again, just trying to look at things without having to sit in silence till cryptic say something - which I'm sure they are working on.
While I personally don't recommend installing software like this, some people reported success on using a free VPN service. Note to un-check anything it wants to install like this person recommends if you decide to go down this route.

although Having logged into the game, it's still very laggy, even though the forum is now fine (for me).
I don't know - just trying to look into possibilities, rather than just blame cryptic, as we have had ISP specific outages before.
Personally I always try to find other possibilities as occasionally it is my router and such. However, since I am able to play other MMO's and can play my Klingon character without any problems, I am more then certain the blame goes to Cryptic. Also, I don't experience any lag on my Klingon. It may not be a server problem but a program problem. I really don't care who's to blame, as long as it gets fixed.
Edit- Also, I am in the US, so the problem is not just in Canada or Europe.

[23:02] <deathkittin> I made a bug report #751586 with a chat log of talking to other people trying to find out what the issue was
[23:02] <deathkittin> hopefully that helps
[23:02] <deathkittin> the two I talked with were in iota pavonis defend popup mission and Infected raid
[23:03] <deathkittin> i was in iota pavonis defend too
[23:03] <deathkittin> I gave up trying to play it's terrible
[23:03] <deathkittin> Havoc try find out who the UK people from your fleet getting it are from?
[23:03] <Havoc> Me, for starters
[23:03] <deathkittin> I mean what missions they are in
[23:03] <Havoc> Sb24
[23:04] <deathkittin> yeah me too
[23:04] <deathkittin> ask the others where they are
[23:04] <deathkittin> I suspect it might just be a coincidence that me and the other person I asked where in iota pavonis defend
[23:04] <deathkittin> *were in
[23:04] <Havoc> SB24, Sirius sector, B'Tran
[23:04] <deathkittin> ah right yeah a coincidence then not zone specific
[23:04] <deathkittin> just country specific it seems
[23:05] <Havoc> you probably saw it on zone chat :-)

[23:16] <Dakirn> poor internet
[23:17] <Havoc> [11:16.54] <\> I'm theorising a router on the East Coast is misbehaving, based on what's working and what isn't. Pure speculation.
[23:18] <&Cryptic_Falkoren> even if thats correct with the router there is nothing we can do about it because its not on our end
[23:18] <@\> People are struggling to connect to STO, four IRC networks are having problems, and they're all having bursts of connectivity at the same time.

[23:32] <deathkittin> so irc is broken, the game is broken, does anyone have any idea what is going on?
[23:32] <deathkittin> is there like an international internet status website anywhere?
[23:35] <&Cryptic_Falkoren> deathkittin no
[23:35] <&Cryptic_Falkoren> this is an issue with infrastructure backbone at a routing center or distribution node
[23:38] <&Cryptic_Falkoren> Honest answer time
[23:39] <&Cryptic_Falkoren> If I was going to charge you Credits / Dollars / Merits for a respec what is the most you would honestly pay before you were like F that
from #sto
[23:19] <@\> Server's fine, it's the Internet that's broken.
[23:19] <@\> Which is weird to type, but oddly true.
[23:19] <MIB-STOFFLINE> why you think that?
[23:19] <DarkRider> Yeah it might be the same problem which was stopping most of us EU from connecting
[23:19] <@\> Because we're having problems here too, not to mention three other places.
[23:20] <@\> And as I was just saying somewhere, the four IRC networks that're having problems (That I know of) are splitting/synching within seconds of one another.
[23:34] <@\> Provider or router or something, somewhere between the EU and US
[23:35] <@\> http://internetpulse.com/Main.aspx?Destination=Boston is about the best I could find.
[23:35] <Eeveevolve> Iv had trouble with a few sites this evening. and my usenet server has been crasily buggy the last hour.
[23:36] <Neoburner^^> Yea same here, tracert's are showing high pings on the hops
[23:36] <@\> deathkittin: Summary: It's showing between 90-180ms latency for... Whatever it does.
23:36] <@\> And apparently that's bad.
[23:38] <Neoburner^^> That isquite high lat for a stable conn
