Where is PVP action?

Please excuse my ignorace, level 45 I should know better but only now am exploring PVP. I tried the queueing system but I never actually get a slot. I read you can physically fly to the PVP maps, can anyone tell me where they are? How do you get into PVP?!

A short two paragraph help would no doubt help lots of us PVP virgins?

Thanks.

I haven't PvP'ed for a while, so take this with a grain of salt.

You can fly to PvP planets, but you'll just end up signing on for the same queues when you get there anyway, so there's no point. There are also "competitive PvE" maps, but I haven't done one of those since beta, and I can't remember where those are or whether they have queues.

If you really want PvP "on demand," your best bet is to roll up a Klingon.

There are a few open contested zones where you can just warp in and may encounter PC enemies. The Borg Hunt in the Ker'rat System (in the Eti Eridani sector block) is one, and there are others. Those do not require queueing.

It seems these are totally random. One minute I'm doing the borg hunt mission, then all of a sudden, I'm fighting PVP. Is this the way it's supposed to be?

Yikes, I don't feel so stupid asking now, seems everyone is struggling with PVP, I thought I was missing out on regular PVP action but seems the queueing system (which I've never actually managed to join a PVP game) is as good as it gets.

No kind of STO deathmatch then? Maybe one for the Cryptic 'to do list', reckon that would pull in some subscribers, would love to test my MK X weapons against another player, the amount of players that turn up for fleet actions, deathmatch (by a more appropriate MMORP title) would always be full of captains.

Thanks for the replies, I'll try 'em.

How do you know where the PVP planets are, are they listed somewhere? Thanks...

If I recall correctly, the battlemasters on K7 (or Qo'nos or Granalda (sp?), if you're Klingon) will tell you where to go.

In the Neutral Zone it will list the planet's name and also say "Space/Ground Hostile Area". If you fly there you will simply get the PVP queue list pop up and you will still have to use this to enter the fray.

And depending on the time of day and which side you play, sometimes the waits are pretty darn long....that may be your root issue of getting into PVP matches.

Ironic, after posting this I actually managed to get into a queue, I might roll up a klingon so I can do more PVP. I can at least keep my bound mk x weapons until my character gets to lvl 40. Enjoyed the PVP, would be great if it was regular, that would keep me coming back every night instead of waiting for content...and as much as the new borg content is great not sure it's enough to warrant my subscription.

Although hats off to cryptic for adding all the content, listening to the community there by improving communications and introducing the calendar, this is all great but regular gameplay requires regular content, even persistent PVP matches, that's the bread and butter of 1st person shooters.

If you want PvP, definitely roll a Klink. I did the fed stuff in open beta and leveled a fed at release to 5 to geto the Klinks and have not gone back since.
On the Klink side, I don't have too much trouble finding PvP at lvl 45, but sometimes I do have to wait in the actual instance for enough feds to show up to make it fun (I personally don't camp the spawn).
My suggestion is find a decent fleet and get a regular team for these and it makes it much more enjoyable.
I do feel I need to warn you, PvP will be your main course for getting levels on the Klink side as the expanse missions get pretty grindy...but, I end up using a BoP with the universal slot to find out the fighting skills that suit me.
If you eve need help, look me up and I'll be glad to assist.
I also wanted to add, a fleet isn't required, if you find a group you work well with in a PUG then stick with them.

If it's any consolation, Fed vs. Fed PvP is coming pretty soon. That'll likely reduce Fed-side queue times by quite a bit.

The whole pvp aspect of this game was poorly implemented. If you want internet spaceship pvp then the best place to get that is EVE Online.
