Hey everyone - I stumbled upon something weird today while playing. When you go into an "enemy contact" instance in Romulan space (in the Iona "something I can't remember, it starts with a 'P' sector), there is a hull of a fed Constitution class that's bigger than my Cheyenne class, with huge, Abrams-like nacelles. Has anyone else seen it? What's it supposed to be?
I took a closer look. It's actually just a HUGE regular Constitution class. You can see it whenever you enter an "enemy contact" instance in the Iona sector.

Why is it to hard for the Federation to clean up after itself? I don't see wrecked Klingon or Romulan ships all over the place, just Borg and Fed, and I know the Borg are just plain ignorant. Why can't the Feds make this world a better place for the children?

I thought the nacelles looks non-standard.. but the deflector dish is definitely vintage constitution..
Seriously, though - I mean, I've seen those ships every time I go to a "deep space encounter," and although there was one ship before that I only recognized from STO's "concept art" (I think it might be "Yeager class"), this ship boggles my mind. I mean, I'm sure it would have been much easier to simply take a regular-sized Connie hull (if they wanted to use that class) and put it there, so why the huge one? And if the nacelles really are different, it's even more of a mystery.
Maybe it's from the mirror universe and they build larger Connies, kinda like the one from the new movie?
I wish I knew how to take a screenshot so everyone could see how tiny my Cheyenne hybrid looks next to it........better yet, how about someone take a screenshot of their regular-sized Connie next to it?

Ha!
I might just have to dust off the USS Watson and take it out just to do that..
C'mon devs.....can someone explain this one? Just like, two sentences? This is driving me nuts. And I hope it's not something like: "It's bigger to make it more visible." Nope. You can do the exact same thing with a warp plasma leak. I've seen that a lot, and it's mighty visible (without breaking canon).
I just went and looked at it. it's at least twice as big as my sovereign.
It features a vesper saucer, vesper pylons, and a connies neck and hull. I do not recognize the nacelles, but it does indeed look like the JJ abrams monstrosity.
I was thinking perhaps that this might be one of the new "ship variants" that is going to be included in the "Common Ground" update that's coming in a few days. But then I thought: "That's impossible. The proposed variants would have to make sense, like new nacelles, new hulls, etc. It would make no sense that someone in Starfleet would say: 'Y'know, I sure do love that old Connie class. I know we've re-introduced it into the fleet with updates, but, I have this idea. How 'bout we make a big a&$ version of it? I mean BIG. Like bigger than our Tier 5 cruisers.' No sense."
That's what I thought, anyway. I seriously think the only way this could be explained within the canon of Star Trek is that it's from a parallel dimension.

Well the previous sector (rankwise) (the romulan sector) had deep space incursions of the Terran Empire... so maybe
i thought they used the Perpertual Concept art to create burning wrecks of those Designs.
but yeah i also noticed that weird giant Constitution class thingy...
The real answer is that the "hulks" you see floating in deep space encounters, which mark the "entrance" to the instance, or lowish- poly props that do not represent flyable ships in many cases. Remember, the Protector from Galaxy Quest was present as such a wreck in one of the pre launch trailers. These things are just generic ship corpses that should not be taken too seriously.

And it is a huge ship! or was.
It was in its day, its kinda small compared to 24th/25th century cruisers.
for comparison
Constitution - 300m in length
Excelsior - 400m length approx
Ambassador - 500m length
Intrepid - 400m approx
Akira - 460m
Cardassian Galor/Keldon - 380m
Klingon Vor'cha - 450m approx
Galaxy - 640m
Soverign - 680m
Klingon Negh'var - 680m
D'deridex warbird - 1080m
Jem'hadar battle cruiser - 1.1km
Prometheus - 388m
So the size comparison at least of the in game constitution vs the other fed ships is about right, its a tad smaller than my Cerberus Escort which is around 380m. A larger one floating around is probably just a out of scale model
Here's a great chart to look at to get a sense of scale for ships in different universes. Granted, it's based for EvE Online (love that game), but still, it's very nice to use as a reference.

According to the Memory Alpha wiki the Abrams Enterprise is 725.35m long. It cites some of the Blu-Ray bonus material as the source for this figure. I've got the Blu-Ray disc but am too lazy to pop it in right now so for the time being I will take them at their word.
In other words, based on the descriptions given in this thread, this mystery shipwreck would appear to be an Abrams-style Constitution-class starship (not just the nacelles, but the whole ship), presumably placed by the developers as an Easter egg.
See, that's what I was thinking. However, this huge Connie out in these enemy encounters isn't exactly the Abrams-style Connie from the new movie. It is indeed very big, but the sensor dish, section that connects the primary and secondary hulls, and the primary and secondary hulls themselves are from a primary universe Connie (the secondary hull might be from a Vesper-class). The nacelles are something that apparently isn't from either universe.
I suppose it could be meant as an easter egg, but if so, it's not an accurate depiction of the Abrams Enterprise. I'm still very curious as to what it is, and what the reasoning behind including it in the game was.

Devs? Anyone know?
They can't legally depict the Abrams Enterprise as they don't have the rights to the movies. But I suspect they did make a giant Connie as a nod to the Abrams film.

It's meant to represent the violated corpse of the Star Trek franchise. That's why it looks like the JJ-prize.
Trekkies regularly gather in deep space encounter instances to pay their respects to the dearly departed.

As for nacelle envy, those nacelles are pretty sweet.......:D
