Version Mismatch with a twist - Hogg files empty!

Before anyone asks, my client isn't attached to steam (since the problem with the beta/live update fiasco), and I last logged in 2 days ago (and yes, I searched :P )

I just tried to log into the game, and I got a version mismatch. it then said "retrying in 6..5... (etc)" until it did, then it started downloading 10gb.

The game size is 10gb. That can't possibly be right.

I then browsed through my client folder and saw that my hogg files, which most should be in the hundreds of meg to over 1gb in size, are all 64kb in size (except for data that's 446kb in size). I don't see anything in the logs that would cause this. My total STO install folder is only 228mb. Something some where has deleted my STO install.

While I know the simple solution is "so just reinstall it, or let it download", however that's not the point. The question is "Why did this happen in the first place?"

Having to download everything again, with a crappy Australian internet connection, it makes me sad :(

Do you see any other .hogg files on your computer? Is this on Vista/Win7 and if so where did you install the game?

    Windows 7

It was originally a steam download (I still had the backup beta files), then I cut/pasted the install to C:\Games\STO (so it was working independently from steam) - Everything worked perfectly fine.

    In my Live folder:

    Cache > rdShaderCache 202kb, shaderCache 27mb, texWords 19mb
prepatch > all the same that are under folder piggs, except that data.hogg is 65kb instead of 446 as it is in piggs)

You can't just move the game without re-running the install to update some registry keys. As far as the game has been concerned, it has always used the original folder for patching.

Welll, I don't know what to say, it's been working fine, and patching, from beta up until this point, and I don't see any STO files in my Steam folder either.

If it is trying to download 10GB, that would probably be because Steam finally cleared out the old files (thus deleting the game).

Sounds weird, since Steam didn't even register my game as being installed.

So if I want to move the game I just need to change that registry key to point to the new location?

It isn't. Or more accurately, there isn't a key for that in there. Could possibly have been wiped.

I think I know what you're going to say next and I don't like it.

If the key isn't found, it uses the working dir of the launcher, so it should Do What You Expect. That could also have been deleted when the game files were, so I think you may have some downloading ahead of you unfortunately. You can grab the latest small installer from http://files.startrekonline.com/install/star_trek_online_setup.exe so you will have all the keys setup and happy.
