I tried creating and playing as a Klingon on the Klingon Faction. As soon as I created a Klingon the game connection to the server was dropped. A suggestion popped up in red saying "connection to server dropped, click on support". Or something to that effect.
I clicked on the support button and it asked me if I redeemed my retail key. I have been playing as a Fed since launch day and know that my retail key was needed before playing. Why did I get a dropped connection plus support suggestion? Any thoughts on this Dev?
I have been playing since open Beta. This disconnect issue is new; it started a few days ago. While I have encountered it a couple of times on the Federation side, it is predominantly a Klingon side issue for me, and only while in The Great Hall. While in space/fighting with my Klingon I have no problems whatsoever; as soon as I come back to The Great Hall I get constant disconnects.
I also know of a way to cause the disconnect issue at will. I suspect it is not a socket error. I think perhaps there is a general catch block in the code that is closing the socket connection as clean-up, making the disconnect a symptom, not a cause. Without seeing the code, this is only speculation, of course.
Federation servers and klingon servers run on different IP's and ports. Try and check to see if you have allowed the full IP and port ranges through your firewalls/av/router. DO NOT PORT FORWARD them. Make sure they ae open and unrestricted.

I did that the the moment I installed the game. It is most definitly a problem on Cryptic's end. If you did not experience the errors yourself, it does not mean the errors don't exist.
I have a klingon faction and judging from the number of people a see in each section I zone to and see in zone chat. There are a lots of people playing without problems. If a lot are fine and a few is not, then logic says it is not just the game but the few and their setup interacting with the game.
What I recommend for people getting a lot of disconnections from the game is to join #STO in IRC. When you start having these problems take note of the instance you are in and have someone else join you at that moment.
Check to see if I'm in IRC and send me a PM, if I'm not AFK I'll come join you and see if I'm also experience your connection issues on the specific instance.
Created a new Klingon character the other day and had this same issue. Logged back in, 5 mins later disconnected. Tried again, disconnected again. Federation side runs fine.
