Ok, for a more detailed description of my new pc's problems, please refer to:

http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=136529

I have come to the conclusion that, if uninstalling and reinstalling my tcp/ic.. whatever protocols doesn't work, I am wiping my hard drive and installing windows 7 over again. I am on a cell phone modem with limited data per month (5 gigs), and I really do not want to burn it up again and again by dling STO. In fact, I'm pinching kilobytes here. Is there a way to back up the last version of STO on another drive (not reformatted) and reinstall it on my drive? Is there a way to save the patches and reapply them later without downloading them from cryptic?

If you have got an External HardDrive just copy your game folder and what ever else over to that then just copy it back again when you have done reinstalling windows 7
Or alternitively if you have got a D Drive then just copy everythibng you want to keep to that drive and just make sure when you reinstall that you stick Windows 7 on the right drve so you dont end up wipeing everythigng by accident :P

Backup the .hogg files. After you reinstall, just put them back in place and you will be all set.

Ok, have god news nd bad news.

The good news is that there is nothing wrong with my windows 7 install. The bad news is that there problem is an incompatibility between Windows 7 64-bit and my ISP's dialing software (I use a broad-band cell modem--cellular south). Basically, until a fix comes out, there will be download issues for me. The wierdthing is tha Star Tre is patching perfectly fine across my network, though no other files will. Maybe a good download manager is the option? Anyone know of a few?

The two solutions I am currently looking at are: 1. create a virtual pc running a compatible form of windows and use that to download files when necessary, 2. usemy windows vita 32-bit laptop to download files and transfe via usb card, 3. create a dual boot system, where I can simply move files from one partition to another (fortuately I have a data hard drive, but I do not want to create another install on my relatively small hard drive--though I suppose XP service pack three might be ok, if I can find a copy....)

None of these options are a prime soluion and to be honest I am not very happy with this revelation. However, where I live, Cellular Internet is the only option. :(

At least Star Trek Online plays fine! :)

depending which version of win7 your runnig you may be able to use XP mode, downloadabale from MS if your using enterprise, professional or ultimate

just a small tip here . you will need to wipe your system if you choose to dual boot win 7\XP, you need to install XP first onto a disk partition as either ntfs or fat32 then install win7.
