Best Sensor Scan Usage?

Just curious what other people think about Sensor Scan. I play as a Fed and I sometimes notice my teammates using it when we're doing the circling fedball, hoping to pick up a cloaked K. That's fine, it's one of the purposes of the ability, but I'd imagine that one of the things the Ks tell each other when they're cloaked and planning a strategy is to stay far enough away from the Feds so as to avoid things like SS and CPB. And even if it did work, the Ks would just be decloaked a few seconds earlier than they planned, grouped, and they'd just start hitting their target list.

I've come to the conclusion that the best use for SS as a Fed is to keep a pounded K visible when they try to cloak and run away like a pataq. ;) My strategy has been to get close to our chosen target and watch his shields. Once they really start hurting, their shields go black and that's the cue. He starts veering off and I can almost hear him bellowing "I'm outta here, suckers!", except in Klingon. I pop SS on him, set him up on a date with T:HY, and enjoy the fireworks. Some clever Ks have managed to survive this, but more often than not it means Stovokor's got incoming.

Feds/Ks, what are your thoughts on the best use of SS?

I use it right after shield disable, before torpedo barrage :-)

The way you're using it is the way I least like to end up facing it as a BoP pilot. So keep up the good work.

with a duration of 30s and a debuff of (well mine) of -76% i tend to apply it at the start, no one lives through the time limit very often, and it is aoe to boot so ur team mates get the benefit on their targets in range.

Nothing stings more my friend. Its why I try to keep a Science team on hand so I can remove the stealth debuff...but Im still vulnerable to your perception buff. If I know who to look for, I also keep a jam sensors on hand too.

These counters arent a give when available, but they certainly help give my tin an a shot of getting away. Thats why its always better to engage the anti-cloak Fed, so you can eliminate him hopefully, or at least have him ready for your Science/Electronic Warfare package for escape.

You already mentioned a very effective way of using it.

Another one, if you want to use it to decloak at the beginning, is to full impulse out of the ball for at least 5km, I would say 8, and then scanning. Klingons usually sit around 10-12km outside, to avoid getting spotted or heard (you can hear cloaked enemies powering up their skills if they are too close).
If you are lucky and in that direction was a Klingon player your chance to kill him are quite nice. But you have to surprise them, if you fly to them slowly they will simply make a big turn around the scie ship

Personally I stopped bothering to use sensor scan for anti-cloak before the battle starts. Its really pointless. There isn't much you can do in all honesty. If you spot a Klink at 10km and launch torpedoes at them, they can easily drop cloak and run if they felt like it, but most likely they will just decloak and begin the attack with the rest of the KDF. It isn't an actual advantage to find cloaked ships prior to battle in my experience.

The exception of course is the fleeing BOPs, its really useful to use it on them, but tractor beam also serves the same purpose. However if you use it to find a wounded BOP that you kill in 5s, its kind of a waste. Frankly it can be better to just let them run away and hide, wounded, because they can't regen their shields while they are cloaked, and their hull regens slowly enough that they are forced to sit out the battle a while or come back weak. But that depends on how good the BOP captain is, some of them are real hit and run nuisances.

Personally, I usually just use sensor scan as the aoe resistance debuff since its a huge debuff for 30s which is more useful on fully intact ships.

This is the thing...using the cloak to get first strike is the KDF and especially the BoPs strength...so why in the world are people trying to fight it. Instead of taking or strength and trying to use SS to make it just less strong, why arent more people thinking of using the SS when we are at our weakest(trying to flee with mounting damage), so you can make us even weaker

Then you'll find you do the most damage...when our pants are down...not when our at our strength.

People try to get us before we attack out a mind-set of fear...instead thinking and acting out of tactics and intellect.
