Tier2 crafting

I got T2 crafting with little trouble but then it became damn near impossible to get to T3. I am just about a Capt now and still FAR from T3 crafting. I have the materials to craft, what I don't have are the parts to upgade. Almost every part I get is rare or uncommon which you can't use and you can only use the lootable parts to upgrade so I can't buy them.

How do I get past this hurdle?

The engineer was easiest for me, I bought engines Mk VI's off the Exchange when I could find them for 30K or less. It gives you just over 40K of value each. Science was a bit harder but I did it with deflector array Mk VI's from the exchange again ( also watching for the cheapest ones). I havent unlocked the tactical yet, I am about half way through it. The easiest way for tactical is to buy Tactical Kit - Fire Team Mk V's from DS9 and upgrade them but it takes a lot of resources (like 15 of the kits times 14 of just one resource), but if you have the resources and money it will be fast.

I read they are looking into changing the crafting but I dont know what they will be changing it too. I hope this helps.

It is very difficult to do without the backing of a fleet behind you...especially tactical. For science and engineering you can pull parts from new ships you buy. I'd also recommend doing a good amount of exploration missions...I've had success with drops on those.

Check the exchange. A lot of people know that the items you need are valuable but I've found plasma beam arrays and such for around 5k before. If they're cheap enough you can buy them, craft them, and then resell them for a profit.

BTW I'm still not T3 Tactical either (100k in I think?) but I don't try to hard. I do have T3 Science and Engineering though which is not very difficult. Go for the more valuable items, Mk VI deflectors and engines get you there fast.

@Agathu - I may just have to try the Fire Team kit strategy.

I am at about 54K right now, trying to hold off on the fire team kits for as long as possible cause I dont have all the mats for it.

You can buy many T3 ships, rip off the engine and the deflector for upgrading and sell the rest, that's maybe cheaper than buying it from the exchange. But Tac is crazy expensive. I'm still working on it although I have leveled 2 admirals but still not enough and I'm not willing to pay millions for the parts.

Geez, so your saying I need to level each catergory of T3 to get them all? I thought it was like T2 that you get them all?

No. It's different. You unlock all 3 T2 merchants at the same time but you have to unlock each T3 merchant individual.

However, you could also wait before doing this because devs stated they want overwork Memory Alpha crafting. Maybe then it's easier.

Is the crafting at T3 even worth the hassle? I gave up the crafting in this game because it didn't seem to be worth the hassle compared to drops we already get.

It's not crafting, it's trading; and from what I've seen it's not really worth the hassle since the gear you can get isn't worth the time it takes to acquire.

They want to call it crafting so I play along with it. But one thing, in STO the items were at least useful. A PITA to get and not worth the time but at least it was useful if you wanted to take the time to do it. Across the hall at Champions Online, they limit what you can craft by level and then by the time you can use something you make, it's actually a downgrade from the normal drops much less the colored name ones.

My first Admiral, I never unlocked even T2 and that one is RA5. I thought it was a time hog so didn't bother since I was trying to level a bit more on that one.

My second Admiral (RA3), I unlocked T2 and thought the items were meh so didn't even try to unlock T3. I was hoping if people had to unlock each vendor individually that it would be a lot better stuff in there. Apparently not so I will never worry about Memory Alpha in this game. Much like CO, stopped thinking about the "crafting system".

I keep buying from Memory Alpha and I am still at Tier 1. Now I am a R.A. 5. So when are the other levels suppost to open?

Currently you are NOT given any notification when you advance a Crafting Tier level. The only way to tell is to ask the other Scientist at Memory Alpha, and see if they offer their 'Crafting' store to you...

Or roll a Klingon and buy engines and deflector arrays from regular vendors, can be cheaper at times depending on the current exchange price.
And if you need to transfer money, just put one item on the exchange with your Klingon and buy it with your Federation char. But make sure you buy exactly your item and don't put it on exchange for less than it is worth.

Wow, I never thought about that. I'm going to buy a bunch of stuff and send it to my other guy. I can buy expensive stuff and send it to my klingon guy to sell for money.

I may just wait to advance craftng as they can't possibly make it harder or more cofusing as still people haven'y figured it out. Plus as mentioned the items crafted are better than the standard but only marginally so it's hardly worth the effort.
