I've read most of the fixxes that some very good computer guys have posted on how to fix lag, rubberbanding and crashes. It all boils down to this: There is a problem with this game and that problem does not exist with other games online. This is something that Cryptic needs to fix and not put it on the players to fix something that they did not brake. ie: buy a new car and after delivery the saleman tells you that it won't run untill you figure out why and then fix it yourself. This is getting old. FIX IT!
I am going to have to agree with the OP. These bugs and frequent disconnects are getting rediculous. What I have experienced with STO, I have not experienced with WoW. I have a very decent 16 gig highspeed connection on my end and all I see when I play is constant disconnects.
I suggest you read the posts before calling someone a troll. Trolling goes both ways you know.
I received, what I assume is from you Robertina , an application to join my fleet. I will look for you in-game or have someone search for you. My character is Jonathan Max@JonathanMax playing on the Fed side.

STO uses a totally different IP and port rtange from WoW. SO you cant compare them. If sto had teh problems as severely as you describe, everyone would have the problems. Theyre not.
Youre connection speed be it 2mb or 13312312 MB has nothign to do with it. Check your firewalls/av software/router settings and make sure everything is fully unrestricted. If you STILL have lag after doing this, contact your ISP (or IT dept if you are running on a work or University network)

You just love trolling don't you? It has been noted by thousands that the servers are bugged, even the Devs admitted that.

I'm not sure about the "noted by thousands"and "devs admitted". From what you are stating the regulars in the IRC channels that play this game quite a lot should be filling the channels with disconnection problems. They are not.
From my experience I've seen the following.
PCs with outdated network adapter drivers that have conflicts with the operating system and the STO client.
Routers and modems that can't handle small packets outbound to the Internet.
ISPs that dynamically block, reset, or by other means throttle TCP connections.
Internet backbone carriers that have routing issues that cause connectivity issues for a large, but not all, portion of clients from a geographical location.
Using a satellite connection will always be problem because of the inherent latency in the connection on games that require quick updated server cleint connections.

Exactly, If you are trying to play with either a sattelite or Wi-Fi connection then the problem is on your end and not Cryptics.
I work in IT and I talk tei Im blue in the face to end users about the inherant differance of a wireless connection vs a wired connection and that at your current level of technology the 2 perform vastly differant.........but they dont want to hear that they just want the pixie dust that just makes it work.
OOOOHHH, got carried away there, I do that some times.
Try a stable broadband connection on your rigs/laptops (dont get me going there) and report back.
Look, guys... Cryptic has a choice... iether fix/ADAPT THE GAME to fit the needs of their customers, or LET THIS GAME GO THE WAY OF CHAMPIONS ONLINE.
If you want to be a fanboi and go down with the ship rather then realize who's problem it is really means about as much as the tissue I just blew my nose in, that is YOUR problem. The OP is delivering the right message.

Or players could build their system to the needs of the game, instead of refusing all help and knowledge and thinking they know better.

Cryptic is trying to SELL TO THE CUSTOMERS.... not the other way around. There is no special privilege to playing a game that people should feel honored to get a chance to do. Rather, Cryptic should feel blessed they have customers WILLING TO PAY THEM TO PLAY THEIR PRODUCT AND TREAT THEM AS SUCH.

This game requires certain hardware and network requirements to run. Unfortunatly, a lot of people like the OP and yourself do not know how to set up and configure their systems to run this game. It's a new game and requires some tweaking to get it right. 99.9% of all connection problems reported through this forums have ended up to be 100% a user side problem. the 0.01% was fully admitted by cryptic and new hardware was installed, configurered and multiple client side patches were distributed to stop any problems.
Only that I HOPE Cryptic comes in and sees this themselves. I have a message for them.
LISTEN TO THE OP! This is what your customers are asking for! If you want this game to survive, take notice and answer your customers!
Oh, and I should not need to defend myself. Truth is an absolute shield.
You really should stop trolling now before a mod revokes your forum priviledges. If youtr system or conenction cant cope with this game, then you shouldnt play it, or you need to upgrade. Thats the truth of it.

Well, I honestly have had very few lag or rubberband issues since the beginning of head start/launch, along with almost no disconnects at all. I've got a very crappy DSL connection because I live in teh country, and I can play STO with no problems with my 'older' (read: almost 3 years old) machine that just barely meets the recommended system requirements.
You really should stop trolling now before a mod revokes your forum priviledges. If youtr system or conenction cant cope with this game, then you shouldnt play it, or you need to upgrade. Thats the truth of it.
No... the truth of the matter is that if too many people get this answer, they will leave this game to die. Is this what you really want?
Look, if you want something constructive, stop being a fanboi and ask! I have a few suggestions offhand.
1) Fix whatever is causing people to crash out. Im not alone in finding this game unstable. EVEN IF THIS MEANS RE-ISSUING THE INSTALL DISCS!
2) Make the ACTUAL recommended machine be what you list in the reccomended box. By your standards, the ONLY thing I have under the recommended requirements are my CPU (which is still well above minimum... in fact it's smack between the two standards). Everything out besides RAM (which meets the recomended) EXCEEDS. So why do the default settings SUCK SO BAD?!?!?!?!? (NOT THAT I cant make changes... I did quite willingly and happily. But Im not the normal, and I just do not understand why I should have to in this situation)
We can start there to make this constructive. But of course, Im waiting to hear how Im the one trolling...
EDIT: Btw, my shield is the truth about the guy arguing with me, the common-ness of certain issues on the forums, AND THE VERY WAY CONSUMERS WORK. My shield is just fine and my core point stands.
Fix this, or face game closures as unsatisfied customers leave.
And people do things to cause thier own crashes. Like using realtek 64 bit sound driver which has a bad CPU bug in the driver so the game disables sound on those cards but people still enter a command -ignorex64check to bypass this feature. Then they wonder why they crash in game.

Then rather then just say "cant be us, must be you" bring this up, maybe even give a link to fix this! You see, the difference here, is you are actually trying to help. You HAVE something to suggest.
The guy Im arguing with is basically giving the WORST customer support answer you can. "It's you." No asking for symptoms... no asking for details.. just "cant be my lord and savior Cryptic, it has to be you FOUL UNCLEAN ONE!!!!"
Ok, ok, Im making fun of him, but this is the mindset that comes across... and what Im saying to avoid like hell.
If you're getting disconnected all the time, you probably have issues with your network card, router, or modem. If it's only happening once a day or so, it's probably attributed to server capacity, and Cryptic has said that they're adding new machines regularly, this will decrease as time goes on. I play on a 3g Cellphone, I get disconnected 3-4 times a night. I expect this. It barely meets the minimum spec to be "broadband". If you have a 5 year old wireless router, well, There's your problem.
If you're crashing all the time, it's probably time for new drivers (video, network, audio), or a new video/audio/network card. Not all cards are made equal, buy a good brand. A ECS card is not an EVGA card, buy quality, you'll be rewarded with a great experience. Keep it updated with the latest drivers. Even a brand new card can have issues that cause game crashes, if it keeps happening, send it back for a new one. Posting crash logs can help determine what device caused your issue.
I have only had one client crash in over a month, it was caused by my sound card. Problem was caused outside the game.
If your graphics suck, you get framerate loss, etc, then upgrade your machine. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS are the MINIMUM needed to get the game to START. RECOMMENDED HARDWARE is to get the game to run "ok". You should beat the recommended point by a long shot if you want to be at high detail.
Things that can be blamed on Cryptic:
Getting knocked offline 1-2 times a day.
Odd patching behavior
Things that cannot be blamed on Cryptic:
Getting knocked off 10 times a day
Poor graphics
Repeated, endless Crashes
Rubberbanding in every zone, all the time
Your lunch tasting bad
Your rapid hair loss
Ingrown toenails
PCs with outdated network adapter drivers that have conflicts with the operating system and the STO client.
Routers and modems that can't handle small packets outbound to the Internet.
ISPs that dynamically block, reset, or by other means throttle TCP connections.
Internet backbone carriers that have routing issues that cause connectivity issues for a large, but not all, portion of clients from a geographical location.
I must concur with this, and add more:
In my case:
I will get forcibly DCed by ISP due to DHCP rules (lease expired). That will happen once ever 24 hours or so.
I will get random DC's (cause of stupid ISP) ... but that happens once or twice a night at worst.
I know that when I run torrents, I get lag hit and lots of DC's (WoW, STO, MSN .. all alike) I run a plain simple level1 router. Lets not get in to details as to why it happens.. subject for another thread.
If I take care of that, I must say, I have nearly 0 DC's..
All generally good ideas... BUT I would not disregard crashes so easily... And if they are as common as this forum could lead one to believe, then maybe, just maybe, there is something Cryptic should into. Even if it's not their fault, it IS an interaction with THEIR GAME, which means they should as a SERVICE TO THEIR CUSTOMERS, look into it and try to find a solution for THEIR CUSTOMERS.... even if it is "we are seeing issues with hardware x y and z... we do not have a solution right now, but you can try this to fix it."
Seriously, I would have a TON of respect if I saw that effort. All I got was "gee, maybe you should roll-back your graphic drivers" when the game's ingame message was why I updated to the reccomended driver in the first place (the one NVIDIA moved back to so they didnt burn out cards themselves). Now, I DO have to thank them.. this driver has made EVERYTHING ELSE run better then before... and Im enjoying a super-high-res Dawn of War 2 right now... but.... come on, guys....
You really should stop trolling now before a mod revokes your forum priviledges. If youtr system or conenction cant cope with this game, then you shouldnt play it, or you need to upgrade. Thats the truth of it.
I find your attitude disturbing, To act as if the customer is at fault is not the correct business practice but of the money hungry shrud tactic. Their is a problem with cryptics server side. If you buy a game and meet the requirments on the box for your machine then such said game should work and perform correctly. If you try other MMO games which require greater system performance and they work, yet STO which requires less system performace attributes and has massive problem then something is wrong on the company side not the customer side. Information is the key here not mis information. The game does have alot of bugs that are being FIXED, not tweaked. Let's be honest many attributes of the game did not roll out. STAR TREK is bigger then cryptic, Either they learn from other past company mistakes and listen to the customer or they will fall to the waste side just like star trek legacy.
BTW here is the definition of the word you use "TROLL". Learn to use such words in proper context next time.
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]

It doesnt matter how you find my attitude. this is a peer to peer tech support forum. We coem here to help each other, and players like the person you quoted, do not help at all, in any way shape or form, with trollin g, accusations etc. Simply because they lack the knowledge to maintain their systems or to configure their system correctly. Other players have pointed this out time and time again. If you dont understand that, then i am sorry. that is solely your problem. Check my post history. I help people with almost any problem they have. The problems i cannot help them with, or do not know the answers to, pegaus and milehighscott jump in and provide their extensive knowledge.
In short, if you have a problem with what i or otehrs say, even though it is the full truth and we have provided proof towards that, then feel free to PM a moderator to check. My message may get edited to quiten the crowd, but you will still reciece the same reply. As for this topic, it has been reported for a lock as it is now no longer useful or constructive.
Robertina..Rubberbanding is caused by:
1- Slow connection ingame-the closer you are to your tower the faster your ping is.(12 great-100 poor)
2- The more MEMMORY you have the better the ride(If game minimum 1Gig..2 GB card is fair-4GB is GREAT)
3- Graphics card is the last key-the better the card..add above two ..and no more rubber.
basically what everyone above me said in short version.
basically, since I dared to say Cryptic should do something, Im the problem in this guy's eyes... he is a fanboi. Sorry, but I dont care if he reports me again. That is what he showed me, so that is what I say. I just hope they read more then that entry... there is a small laundry list of ways Cryptic could be better with it's customers in here. If they read it, then my reportings are worth it... for the customers, for cryptic, and for the game itself.
Comments
If you have an actual problem, please post complete details here so we can try to help you figure it out.
The game is playing fine for thousands of us, so stating the game is simply "broken" is clearly not true.
I suggest you read the posts before calling someone a troll. Trolling goes both ways you know.
Not a prob. All resposes I see, either made by me or someone else, is met with people yelling troll.
