Well, I went over there to see what we (Klingons) were getting.
Don't hold your breath guys..your not going to like what looks like is coming.
They are giving us Star Cluster missions (the same ones the feddies have ...explore three planets and out) and our version of the Crystalline entity, Breaking the Planet and Big Dig....and thats it.
No new Sectors, no new areas, no new multi part missions that one can solo, no huge pve world that the feddies have.
Star Clusters and a cpl Fleet action missions and thats it.
I was hoping for SO much more.
Sure they are fixing lots of stuff...but their priority sure as heck isnt us Klingons.
Here is what I posted on the Tribble forums:
Ok, I have read all the notes, and I went to tribble to look about.
Yes, its a lot of updates and I applaud you Cryptic on a lot of the stuff you have done...however comma
You seem to have lost the forest for the trees.
These Star Clusters and a few fleet action missions are your answer for the HUGE MASSIVE outcry for Klingon PVE????
Obviously you don't get it.
It is my lone opinion that the single, BIGGEST, most IMPORTANT thing that has been needed to be added to this game is FULL, RICH, DETAILED pve for the Klingons. You seem to be putting forth a lot of effort on things that yes may be needed but SHOULDNT be at the top of the list ahead of Klingon PVE.
More Klingon PVE means larger Klingon population. That in turn translates into more pvp between the factions as the population imbalance begins to work itself out. You don't seem to understand that.
This pve you have added to the game for the Klingon faction, while nice, should have been only the least bit tip of the iceberg and is in no way going to mollify or satisfy the needed situation.
You will lose massive amounts of subscriptions in the end if this is your idea of klingon pve.
I'll personally stick around...I am an idiot that way and will see it to the end but I can see the writing on the wall.
This 45 day patch is already a make or break for a huge amount of people. It's all over the forums....you DO read those right? I mean you must, you did fix other things.
I do applaud the fixing of many issues, I am though VERY dissapointed that your priorities seem vastly askew.
Klingons want and NEED PVE. Just like the Federation counterparts have. These Star Cluster missions (explore three planets and out) and a few fleet missions arent going to cut it in any way shape or form standing on their own. It's a good start..but it is kind of like taking a fly swatter solution to an elephant of a problem.
I seriously hope you have some hidden pve surprise coming that you simply havent told us (klingons) about yet and are gonna stuff it in our stockings when we arent looking..otherwise...a pretty drab christmas of a gift this is.
Just my 2 energy creds..maybe I am being too negative...but I really was hoping with the huge outcry about Klingon pve that they would have taken us more seriously.
Bugger, I was so looking forward to more, I don't PVP and was hoping there was more PVE content to level a Klingon, however if there is not what is the point, and levelling another Federation character just isn't exiting, as some games are when levelling a different char.
Personally I hope you are wrong and that there is really some more content they are not telling us about, also, when is the 45 day patch? there has been no date given to start counting from, or, if there has been I missed it.
I wonder how many different missions Klingons will encounter in the exploration missions. I have a big fear it will be like 3 different ones, one of it buggy, for every tier the same, just with higher level enemies. Typos in every second quest description and no immersion at all (only beam down to somewhere, shoot a never else seen alien race dead without any apparent reason, upload data from the computer in the last room, finish)
And this ressource mission (provide some aliens with Communication arrays, Entertainment units, ...), without any vendor for it.
Might be pessimistic, but experience teached me not better.
The Star clusters are a good quick fix. It would take to long to implement the episodic missions for Klingons to the scale that they are currently found in the Federation. That is more of a long term goal, that I personally would have liked to have seen them delay the release in order to get it in.
How much work would it take to make enemy contacts in Klingon space? You know, roving Feds and Roms. A little more effort and we could have roving Vulcans, roving Betazoids and roving other Fed species. Add a Klingon High Command contact and voila, new PvE content.
cryptic must feel that the majority of STO players want to play as federation chars, so thay figure give more to the more popular side of the game, and with so many people cancelling subs and quiting the game may as well keep working on the more popular side to keep the new peeps happy as long as possible.i am not much into pve but i still enjoy it when burnt out on pvp.its pretty sad when a player has to delete chars and start a new one simply out of boredom and the hopes the game will get better.

It's practically cut and paste.
enemy contacts = nebulas
it's exactly the same once you enter them
Btw I really don't care much about PvE anyway, I hope they make great PvP in the future. One that makes sense and is driving.

A self-fullfilling plan. There really are many more Federation players than Klingon (perhaps somewhat due to the glaring lack of Klingon content). So, we'll give the vast majority more of what they have, and whatever resources we have left over will be used to fix minor issues with Klingons (becasue there are not enough leftover resources to fix major issues).
More Klingons quit because the fabled 45-day miracle update didn't give them much at all.
Next update Feds outnumber Klingons by an even wider margain, so Feds get ALL the resources.
Klingon faction closed due to lack of interest and everyone wonders why.

Welcome to the cutting edge of Star Trek Online. Please note that the below list represents what is in the current version of the Update 1 build on Tribble and not all of what you should expect to see in Update 1. We will continue to release the remaining Update 1 features to Tribble when we feel that they have seen enough internal QA testing to warrant showing all of you.
I'm not saying what's on Tribble ISN'T all the Klingon-side is going to be enjoying, but you may be a bit too hasty with the righteous indignation. You've also been heartily responded to over there, but to share the important parts here ...
1) KDF wasn't intended to be a PVE faction
2) Fed PVE has had a year or two of development to get where it's at
3) KDF is going to have to be patient so that our content is delicious and meaningful. 45 days isn't enough to develop and code 45 levels of content.

I don't think that the Feds would be roving content. I could see it being Mirror Universe "looking for a good fight". I could also see it being Romulan expansionists, Gorn sympathizers looking to rthrow off the Klingon mantle, etc.

Why wouldn't the FEDS be included in the roving enemy contacts like KDF in Serius or Regulus? The factions are at war...

Sorry friend you are wrong - KDF was to have PVE/PVP - same as the Feds - heres a video from Aug.08 stating it from Jack Emmert
Someone mentioned Klingons weren't meant to be a pve-action. Ya well... that statement is true but if you analyse it further you can also say: it's just a lousy excuse to not add any klingon content. Just copy federation faction, change models(values) and some minor adjustments in the skillmenu + abilities like cloak. Et voila you have a new faction without content. Bravo *g*.
But why should they add new low-lvl content? Most of the people already have reached admiral level, a lot including me have 2 admirals, one on each side. New content is just developed for lvl 45, and this new content like infected doesn't look very promising.
I just tried to level a new klingon a few hours ago. Guess what? 2 Ways: queuing for pve, or dull nebula-pve with 5 mins waiting timers. So I queued to get some variety. 8 klingons, 2 feds on the map. Great. On Cracked Planet the Feds even left because 5on1 isn't very funny on both sides. Waiting times are ver high and so my main way to level on klingon side is blocked.
Ok, I thought, give the testserver a try. But I couldn't copy any of my chars. Mkay, make a new char, excpected to have a klingon from the start, but no way. Had to go all the way trough the fed-tutorial again and further to even unlock a klingon. Don't know about you guys, but this game isn't very satisfactioning, more frustrating. Changed from 3 to 1 month subscribtion and I think I will leave after this month.
Don't get me wrong, I like Star Trek and the genre, but you expect more from an mmo in 2010 than this. (sry, for getting a little offtopic, just wanted to clear my head hehe)
i tried the infected today for the first time, i am not a ground pounder but i bought the kit and off we went. all i can say is what a lot of TRIBBLE, zerging borg zombies when we reached the main chamber the green nodes in the corners just kept resetting themselves.
i have done pve in a half dozen games and this was the worst by a huge margin i have ever encountered. if this is the best they can do then they sould give up now and go home. as a result the last remaining members of the fleet seem about ready to quit altogether

Anyone expecting massive PvE for Klingon's in the 45 day patch, wasn't being realistic. I logged onto test and tried what was there. The PvE missions aren't bad. I also like how some of them were written. I particularly enjoyed kicking meddling feds off a peaceful farming colony, that was aligned with the KDF. Also tons of cosmetic changes...I don't know if you noticed but...
- Graphics in general look greatly enhanced.
- We finally got a Klingon sounding computer.
- The federation animation were removed from the Transporter effect. Replaced with suitable Klingon animations.
Not to mention access to Fleet Actions and the CE. (When Klingon's BoP's start stomping the CE regularly...there will be interest in playing a Klingon...).
It's also the first of MANY updates. Things will be released incrementally..not all at once. Which is smart. I'd rather have the content come to us as bug free and well thought out as possible.
Yeah, I have been a voice for Klingon PVE since the very begining. I am happy that they are doing star clusters, but disappointed that we are not going to have those Star Fleet arcs. The story arcs are one of the best things in the game. Klingons feel very unfinished. From the ships to the clothing to missions, it seems like Federation with forehead crests. The voices on the ship, etc. etc. I really hope we will be seeing some more work put into the Klingons by summer.

Can you elaborate on that ? Do we get a VO in Klingon saying that "enemy's shields are down" ?

Wrong, KDF was intended as a full faction, both PvE and PvP. The devs did announce that Klingons wouldn't be finished yet in time for release and that they would be INITIALLY a PvP faction. Klingon faction should receive all the PvE goodies, otherwise I see a lot more people cancelling sub if Cryptic doesn't get it's priorities right. I've noticed a lot of people on my friends list simply not logging in anymore so the situation is getting more and more troublesome everyday.
And I do totally agree that you can't expect to see the magical light after only 45 days post launch. Adding stuff takes time and yep Fed PvE had about 2 more years of development. Hopefully we'll see some missions transfer over from Fed PvE with a bit of a Klingon "touch".
We'll see what it brings in the long run, I personally am not going anywhere but if the game goes down like Tabula Rasa did then let's just say that I wouldn't be overly surprised. I've seen it all before and I'm bound to see it again. Only time can tell...

I would say this could be true for things like the Patrol Sector missions, but seriously, don't you think we're gonna call *BS* on that? I don't think a single person wants to see "copy and paste" Episodes however. Really those are the steak and potatoes missions. The Fed side has some really good ones too. I'd like to see the Klingons get some nice meaty goodness - episodes that make you proud to be Klingon.

I'll stand corrected then.
As an aside, I think TR had too much going against it. I tried to enjoy the game but spent too much time going "Huh?" to really get into it.
Please provide constructive feedback, as it will help the developers. Simply stating you hate this, you hate that, or I quit, isn't going to do anything to help them. Put the should've would've could've aside, and help Cryptic out by providing suggestions. They have shown this community that they are listening to us, and are doing the best they can. All mmo's start out unfinished, even WoW did, but nobody remembers that anymore. In fact an mmo is never finished, it's always changing, and content is always being added. Just need to have some patience, and be willing to provide feedback of what should be added and or changed.
I love my Klingon character... much more than my fed. I'm an Admiral 5 on fed but only a Lt. 2 on Klingon just because I don't like pvping back to back. I'm glad to hear that we're getting the clusters but seriously I agree with you we NEED some robust PvE options badly.
I would too would like to see some more meanful content both pvp and pve for Klingons. I could visualize a mission that involved attacking a fed or other appropriate factions convoy and boarding ships to secure tech etc. This should be fairly easy to make from exisiting code in fed missions.
The content could also help set the stage for more robust and meanful pvp by having an open consenual pvp area. These type of missions could then involve pvp. Feds would be able to defend and aid while Klinks could conquer. All of this will take time, but if the developers let us know that these types of things are possible then I have the patience to wait and keep participating. The star trek universe has a powerful draw for me that other mmo space titles lack. I just want to know good things will come so I can swallow the frustration I currently feel for my Klink toon.
I play both fed and klink but really want to see klingon play improved with more pve. I would like to see both factions as well as any new factions bennifit by the creation of meaningful pvp.
I was looking forward to this patch in order to create a klink after it, and have some fun. Sadly, after seeing Klingon side getting nothing with it, except few copy-pasted exploration clusters and same boring fleet actions no one bothers doing more then once, I don't think I could stand repeating same crappy mission all over to BG.
Not to mention FvF pvp.. Klingon queues, regardless how small playerbase your side has, will skyrocket to 20 mins at peak hours.
Have to admit, I admire you guys for loving Klingon side so much, even though you have 0 content to go trough. Don't think I'd ever be able to get my fed up to RA5 without some story... game is just too shallow.
20 minutes? Peak hours? I don't wait for more than 10 seconds in my queues.
I am Commander 8.
Now, I agree that there is alot of lacking content.
I mean, there is so much PVE we CAN have.
Taking down the Gorn/Nausican resistance. Fighting the Dominion on thier property.
Since Klingons are so hard up on the Undine, we can at least SEE one in our career.

2) It takes 15 minutes to make a mission. Im not guessing Im a programmer. It takes 15 minutes to create a mission in a game like this.
3) 15 minutes per mission story line wise needed to create a mission. Another hour max to lay out away mission content per area and on some of the fed ones, it taking an hour is being pretty damn kind.
Example of how a 2 year old could make some of these missions, lets look at the beam down scan 4 alien objects and leave. Give me a break if that counts as hard mission creation.
