How are energy credits awarded?

I have been playing for some 10 hours, now a Lut level 5, but never has any energy credit accumulated. How are energy credits awarded? I thought I had the game figured out. There is no mention of it in the manual and the forums talk about excess (I wish) and loss after logging out. Thanks in advance!:

To gain energy credits you need to sell things to a vendor or the replicator. You get the best percentage return from the vendors at Sol Station. They give you 50% of the items value. the replicators give you 40% I believe.

Got it! Energy credits are earned by selling to a vendor!

You get drops in game. You sell the items you dont want for energy credits.

My experience was that for the first few levels everything I got I wanted to keep. As you level you get better stuff and equip it. The old stuff that you replaced with newer better stuff can be sold to vendors at Starbase 1(Sol). You can even sell items that are bound to you to these vendors.

seems like even mk stuff sells better on the exchange btw, might not get many people to buy a mk i or mk iii.

You also get energy credits from doing PvP.

Fear not, you will get an abundance of EC as you work through the game, I'm at Commander and I've got over 2 mil. 'cause I don't have anything to spend it on, so it just keeps building.

Go find some romulan osol twist or tranya and sell it on the exchange for some big bucks.

Best way to get cash on the exchange is to only sell even numbered MK stuff, odd numbered stuff anyone can buy from the vendors at Sierra 39 and DS9, so it's easier just to sell them to a vendor but ANY consoles and any even numbered MK stuff, chuck on the exchange. Originally you want to sell at maybe a bit above the items worth, and work your way down slowly (remember, even if you sell an item worth 33000k for about 25000k that's still more then what you'd get just selling it at a vendor or dumping it in a replicator).
