What a load of cobblers, been unable to authenticate since this message apeared on the launcher, I was playing up untill about 10.15 GMT, login in and out with no issues.
Saying that it may not be a load of cobblers, if what you mean by:- "Normal gameplay will not be efeccted" is that players cant login, if this is normal then ignore my post(Not that you, Cryptic, will read it anyways) and continue doing what is Normal gameplay, no wonder you are at the Top of the Failboat list(****ing over paying customers).
You people need to go and learn about public relations, stop giving false info and lying, and stop worrying about wether or not you will meet your Quota to get your bonus of 24 Million USD from Atari.(Who I hope to god Turbine are successful in Sueing for thier 30 million USD)
Coincidence that the forums are down and ppl are also unable to authenticate? I think not.
Time Stamp: 12.01 GMT
Still Unable to authenticate.....Yeah Clap.

Oh and the Forums are still down, "We'll Be Right Back!" haha what a joke.
Time Stamp: 12.43
I've come to the conclusion that you at Cryptic have absolutley no clue to what is happening on or to do with your STO server/servers unless the forums are up and ppl get to QQ at you. Sad. Oh for clarification, Unable to Authenticate.
LOL Try Upating your Cryptic website. "Start Trek Online, Release Date TBD." LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL.

Wondering how many of the 1 million subs have cancelled in the last 14days, at a guess id say half if not more. With most reviews scoring this game 2-5 out of 10, bah 1 that I saw that gave it a 7/10(Wonders how much cryptic payed the guy to write it) im guessing the subs will continue too drop off and end up like CO with 50k subs, which in the current climate is not many at all, I bet more Free to Play MMO's have more subs than 50k.
Oh and still Unable to Authenticate. And the forums are STILL down. Wonder what his Boss would do if I said, "I'll be right Back", disapeared out the back door and did not return for 2+ hrs. Actualy I dont need to wonder, he would say "Your Fired."

Sub Cancelled. To much ******** from Cryptic.

think this is something that needs looking into
If you run into this problem with the launcher again, try clearing all your cache in Internet Explorer 8 before starting the STO launcher. If by chance you aren't running IE 8 I highly recommend you install it. STO is tied to IE, whether you use IE for your primary browser or not (I do not).
Anyway it seems to be up and running now...
Cryptic needs to stop for a moment and get an overview of how their infrastructure really fits together, because apparently, they haven't a clue which systems affect which... Poor show, especially considering the price of a subscription. I don't think this kind of service is value for money...
I love the game, but I wanna be able to play more, rather than being faced with maintenance every other day or so... I don't pay to go and play a different game than the one I wanna play...
In that same light, don't tell your customers (I find it funny when we are referred to as Users or Players, because we really are Customers first to you) that 'gameplay will not be affected'. If I can't log in, then yes, gameplay is affected, and saying otherwise would be lying to your customers, something that can be grounds for annulment of any contract, with the option to demand money back... Communicate correctly, or you may face consequences.
As I said, I love the game, am playing at again right now and am happy stuff is up. Just, whenever it has to be down, for whatever reason, please tell us straight up what is going on, rather than some vague story we can't make anything out of...
Also, that message is baked into a static page and operations team can't change it easily, we apologize for the confusion.
OK sounds good and all, I use Firefox myself.
However STO launcher uses MSHTML that is also included and controlled by IE options. I know of at least eight people that resolved their STO launcher issues by installing IE 8 on their system. That is for those that responded that it fixed their problem in IRC or forum.
So even if you hate IE, don't use it, etc - Putting IE 8 on the system with current patches has been the night and day difference for several people.
Thanks CR, I do appreciate the additional feedback. Don't take it too hard, nothing personal.
MSHTML is different from IE theres a post around here someplace explaining it. As I stated IE 8 is NOT on my comp. And STO works fine, some built in MSHTML into windows or something. Trying to get me to Install IE 8, makes me think your work for Microsoft.

TY for the replies and apology.
Yep, it is different from IE - I am not stating it isn't. What I am stating is installing IE 8 has addressed launcher issues for multiple STO players. This was a "fix" since open beta for people in IRC. If you have an easier way to fix mshtml problems for people that barely know how to run Microsoft update, by all means show me how.
If you want to hate on IE 8 and Microsoft, feel free to. I use Firefox and passed on a job at Microsoft in 1996.
That's what we are here on the PC & Technical issues support forum for, is peer support.
From my FAQ
To expand:
MSHTML is also known as "Trident", and is the layout engine for IE. It's comparable to Gecko for Firefox, and Webkit for Safari (and others).
IE is an application that provides a UI, cookies, history, etc - and a huge MSHTML area that fills most of its window. You can uninstall the application part of IE, but MSHTML is a core component of Windows and cannot be removed; notably, it's also required by Explorer in XP, the windows help viewer, AIM, MSN, Outlook, Steam, and windows media player.
If you take a stock install of XP, and uninstall IE, then you are left with MSHTML from IE6. It's buggy as sin and crashes if you give it a harsh look. Installing IE8 will get you a current version. This mess is fallout from one of the times when Microsoft was convicted of antitrust violations.
This is truely getting old.
